I have a 2.0 tdi 150 and my insurance is up for renewal. Cheapest quote I've got is 100 quid more than I payed last year with a extra years no claims ( one claim on record still )

I've tried a couple of company's direct and there all coming out at nearly 1k, cheapest is 600 who I am with now. That's with protected no claims windscreen cover legal cover etc

Could anyone recommend a company who would likely beat that quote ?

Thanks

Edit: should add I'm 26, 7 years no claims entitialment

Best off posting who you've tried so far to avoid people recommending the same people.

Mine went from £420 to £470 this year with no change in my details (2.0 tdi). Insurance tax went up this year also which you need to factor in for a small increase. I also shopped around & could only get it back down to £430 which when you matched coverage was no lower than what my current insuruer was offering at renewal (AXA).

LV seem very competitive. I got a quote via Money Supermarket & then clicked and bought it direct with LV. It was the cheapest by far. 1.6tdi, £0 voluntary & compulsory excess, only 1yrs no claims = £500.

Money supermarket have been the best comparison website by far for me. I spent ages looking for quotes, they always quoted me with the cheapest cover.

Just a note on the insurance price increase this year. Last year (Feb 2016) i had 0 yrs claim bonus so i was starting fresh, my insurance was £500 with £750 excess. This was with City Insurance & was the best i could find. This year i could have got my quote down to £350 if i had put £500 excess but chose to get £0 excess as for me its worth the piece of mind should a small mishap happen. I know that last year i didn't have any no claims bonus but it shows that not everyones prices have gone up.

Did you check the app that Aviva do? Apparently it tracks you for a few hundred miles, assesses your driving and then alters your premium? not read many reviews about it but worth a try/google...

I've heard about the app, gonna give it a shot. I go through to compare but will also try money supermarket, lv are on to compare and that was around 800

Tried money supermarket and it's coming back at 549 with protected no claims and 300 excess ( 200 less than go compare ) same company .... go figure. When is the best time to renew ? I've read 3 weeks before is the best time but don't know how accurate that is

I think that you can save a quote for 4 weeks with LV. Not 100% sure thought but i think so as i started a month or so before and spent ages looking for a good quote with all sorts of configs. Glad you go cheaper. Seems a good price. As i mentioned, i went thought LV but as i have a bank account with Nationwide i actually took another step and went though them as they use LV. If you do this then you get extra things for free like legal cover, courtesy car, £25 cash back i think & with the same quote reference used with LV.

Which company was cheapest just out of interest?

try confused.com . got mine through them with priviledge

cheers

Hastings direct ( I've been with them 2 years ) I'm waiting on there renewal quote to come through then I'll try haggle them down below the online quote

How accurate have you been with your estimated annual mileage? Premiums are normally loaded based on the number of miles you do. My point is don't set the policy as 15k miles per year when you only do 10k. There's some good tips on moneysaving expert website too, there are suggestions like adding an older named driver to your policy, this can reduce the premium.

Have you got home insurance?, can you use the same company and get a loyalty bonus.

Insurance is almost impossible to compare like for like as everyone has a slightly different risk i.e. age, postcode, points etc. Unfortunately, the only way to be certain you've got the best price is too put the hours in searching websites.

Earning cashback from people like quidco can also bring the overall costs down

I put 12,000 miles. 210 to work a week, plus any runs I do after work or when I'm off so won't be far off

Mine went down! I stayed with the same company and the only change made was I took the like for like car hire off, as it went up from £19 to about £69.

That's with AXA, I've sent a few people from here there and their quotes were good as well. Go direct rather than using a comparison site, also if you have a dashcam they give you 10% off. http://www.axa.co.uk/insurance/personal/car/

I had heard axa were quite good but same results, just under 1k. I think I'll just stick with my current insurance for now as they seem the cheapest.

Hi, have you tried us yet? If you wanted to drop me a PM I'd be happy to arrange for a quotation for you.

Kind Regards
Dan

Renewal quote received this morning from Admiral, oh how I laughed
41 years young, zero claims, zero convictions, zero changes on last year, max NCB (22 years) surprisingly I won't be accepting their offer

Even last year wasn't that cheap for you really, age etc considering! Mine was £531.30, I'm 30 with zero claims, convictions - that's with direct line.

You also have to factor in location and things like where it's parked night and day as all affect the premium.

In addition occupation has a huge impact. In my case technical manager compared to technical director changed policy by £50!!!!

Bottom line is in general all premiums are up 15-20% on a like for like basis

New S3 saloon 8years protected NCB, 0 points, legal protection etc ... £500, last year £350 for a year old S3 SB

Yeah, I thought about that not long after I wrote it tbh. I know there are a lot of variables, still more than it should be regardless :pensive:

Similar age (I'm slightly older), zero claims, two SP30's, max NCB.......................... £226 Direct Line.
Although I cancelled with them, paid them £47 for the privilege then took a new policy out online as they were standing by their £600 phone quote.
I'll be reviewing every year as it's the only way to keep it reasonable........... robbing b******s!

Best way, they did it to me with the R32 - renewal price was somwhere near £700, online was around £350-£360! Phoned them up, they matched the price. Gave me some spiel about "oh our system didn't see you have home insurance with us too" sure that wouldn't give near on 50% discount!

Have you tried going through a cash back site like Topcashback ? I've saved a fortune over the years using them.

Just renewed both of our cars (TT & S3) with LV via comparethemarket. They were the cheapest by at least a couple of hundred quid for each policy!

Appreciate the variables can make a big difference. Last year was my first with the S3 and I was quoted £600 - £800 both going direct and using the good old meerkat. Admiral matched, just surprised by the level of increase! I'll get wo work over the coming week and see what I find.
Maybe I need to move, and create myself a new job title ;)
For those of you under £300, I'm moving in your spare room

Always a bit sceptical to be honest. I find it hard to believe you get something for nothing but I'll certainly have a look, cheers

That's just bonkers lol, fair play though for playing the game and coming out on top. At that price, do you have a spare room / conservatory / garden shed.....

Which was worse, manager or director? I wouldn't want to invalidate any policy based on employment but I'm certainly interest

£427 with Churchill on a '66 plate S3
27 with 7-years NCB
This is with the Mrs as a named driver

Come to Vancouver, B.C. Canada...cars may be way cheaper 2018 RS3 saloon very nicely equipped pano-roof, SS seats etc. $70,000.00 about 43,000.00 quid......BUT car insurance my 2017 S3 with replacement cost and a 300 quid deductible is 1200 quid, no claims in 25 years, no points (that is a miracle). Under 21 and even up to 25 for the same car you will be paying a king's ransom, if you can get insurance.

I recieved something very similar this week from Admiral, who near enough doubled last years fee. I complained, and recieved a generous (laughable) offer of a £40 discount for being a "valued customer". The admiral can go boil his head....

Adrian flux halved admirals quote, as did just about everyone else via the evil web based duo of the annoying puppet rats and the mustachioed opera singer and all round annoying *******. I didn't try the twerking builder, but I think he might be for bank loans or something...

I'm not really sure what Admiral's target market is, I'm sure it was them who quoted me over £1000!

This is my second year with Aviva now. First time I've been offered a renewal premium which is lower than my current premium! Every other year I have switched company for the cheapest deal. Aviva also allowed me to modify my car without any extra premium.
