I see that a few people have done the RS5 brake upgrade but I was wondering if it is possible to fit the R8 calipers to the S4 hub?

Searching the net hasn't shed much light on the matter.

no sure on that, whats the damage for a set of r8 capliers and discs not really the kind of thing people have kicking about ?

Eyeing up some second hand ones but not sure they'll fit. Seems like the calipers are the same as the Rs4 and rs5 but the mounting bracket is different.

I think they are the same Brembo 8pot caliper and you should be able to to source the correct bracket direct from Audi but they won't be cheap, prob about £300 for the brackets I bet. Is that using a 365mm floating disc?

You might be able to use the R8 bracket and modify it slightly. I did this with the S8 Brembo 6pots I fitted to the front of mine, the caliper bracket just needed machining slightly to fit and allow the caliper to fit under the wheel.

365 disc. Not worth the cost if it's £300 for the brackets. Ridiculous!

Looks like I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for some RS4 or RS5 ones.

If you want to go one step further you can fit the Bembo 6pot calipers from the likes of the RS6/S8 and use the RS6 390mm disc with an RS5 brake line.
This is what I have fitted and the brackets needed machining by about 5mm to gain enough clearance to get the 19"wheel back on over the caliper! if you have 20" wheels you could run the 398mm discs.

TBH one of the biggest problems with the S4 is the lack of brake cooling from the front of the car.

Is there a limit to the size of discs and calipers the standard S4 servo can handle ?

As in more pots more fluid to push bigger area more effort

Would you benift more from the likes of hose upgrade and quality of pads discs etc ?

Just curious not done anything to my brakes yet but surely there's got to be a trade of between size of the components on the standard brake system ?

I did look in to this but the pedal feel is spot on and very responsive, just like OE in fact with bite right at the top of the pedal. From looking at the RS5 8pots kits etc available they all retain the OE S4 servo and work just fine too.
I used genuine RS5 lines with genuine S8 pads and genuine RS6 discs and everything works very well, the only thing I would add is more cooling to the brakes if it was possible as i do get brake judder from the floatig disc design when they get hot. I used them on the Nurburgring and they performed very well.

Good to know, I'll prob end up with some sort of upgrade in the future,

I believe there's Porsche brake cooling mod for the front just diverts air towards the disc etc

I've heard about people fitting the Porsche Mecan cooling ducts which I believe fit to the suspension wishbones but I don't know where the air is drawn from, either from under the car or the front? The S4 doesn't have any brake cooling ducts built in to the front bumper and behind the fog light grills there is other things thet would impede the air flow to the brakes

I think @desertstorm has them fitted and I think an other couple of people as well

I'm sure you could cut a channel though the inner arch and adapt the fog grills for some flow

Behind the passenger side fog light isn't too bad but behind the drivers side fog light are components of the Audi Drive Select system.

Sure I read somewhere that the s4 and rs4 rear calipers are the same. Did I imagine this?

I'm looking at upgrading my s4 brakes .If I go with rs4 callipers ,what all exactly do I need to buy .callipers ,hoses but which brackets do I need to get.

According to my research, if you get calipers off either an Rs4 or rs5 b8 then the supplied brackets will fit.

Audi don't sell these brackets without the calipers and I've been unable to find anyone who sells just the brackets.

Thanks for the info ,it's going to be expensive.

It is definitely going to be expensive.

I'm currently weighing up the pros and cons of just fitting uprated discs and pads and not doing the rs caliper swap at all.

Remember that the 8 pot calipers require 2 sets of pads and discs are also expensive so ongoing maintenance costs also need to factored in to the decision.

I don't want to be a downer on the subject but in terms of expense I just thought I'd mention I was going to go a similar route in the past but found the price of discs and pads down the line when they need to be replaced was absolutely crazy.

The Brembo 6pot caliper fitted to the newer RS6/7 & S8 etc can be a better bet than the 8pot as it's a newer stronger caliper design and uses a large single pad
Yes bigger pads and discs are expensive but the extra confidence, safety and stopping power they provide def outweigh the cost. I mean what's the point of tuning a car to make it faster etc which is relatively easy to do when then you can't stop quick enough!?

I wasn't saying don't do it haha got bigger brakes on mine and it has plenty of "extra confidence, safety and stopping power". One thing I do always think though is with said tuning and extra power your still stopping the same car unless it's suddenly lighter/heavier so stopping at any given speed is the same regardless of what tune etc the car is running and unless on a track the driver should take more care not drive stupidly in the wrong situations.

But again I'm not saying don't do it, better brakes can only be a good thing.

Are the newer 6 pot calipers a direct fit or do they need some tweaking?

They needed a little tweeking as the brackets I had were for S8 398mm discs but I'm I'm RS6 390mm discs as they fit under the 19" Peelers.

We're do you guys get the parts from .are you buying new or from breakers ect .i have no chance of getting used parts here in n.ireland .

Calipers and brackets from EBay. Discs from Euro Car Parts and Pads & lines from TPS
