Hi all,

Bexley/Sidcup area - Just as a heads up - attempted break in this morning (house alarm went off). Came downstairs to find front living room window jemmied open.

Police responded really quick. Handed over dashcam footage/waiting on SOCO to turn up.

Car has a disklock fitted/keys not kept anywhere obvious ....

Car has additional security - but not going to go into details re that.

Keep your yourselves safe !!

That's not good mate.
As long as you and your loved ones are safe first and foremost and also the car is still there.
Hope they catch them.

Glad to hear you and family are alright. I'd rather leave keys somewhere they would see easily once inside as I'd rather they take the car and go than come upstairs and potentially encounter a young child going to the toilet etc.

Thanks for the heads up, as horrible as it is... it's nice to hear that security measures have won for a change!! Perhaps take extra precautions on your windows immediately, just in case they come back but I would have thought it's unlikely if they've been spooked once.

Sadly there seems to be a gang operating in that area at the moment. I had a call out to a location close to yours after an S5 was recovered not long ago and have had further calls this week from people in similar situations.

I live in the same area as the OP and not long after I got the S3 someone had a go at the front door to my house this was back in January. House now has an alarm and also doing simple cheap things like sash jammers on the doors and windows really help as it makes them nigh on impossible to jimmy open. Also changed the front and back door locks 3 diamond anti snap, anti drill, anti bump etc etc locks.

Hi DJAlix - I had read your post previously re the S5 - so yes does appear as if they are working in this area.

House is already pretty secure - but bumping up physical windows/CCTV installation expedited.

I know of about 3 other S cars in this area - will go drop a note through their doors as aheads up.

You mentioned about dash cam footage. Is the camera running constantly?

Most decent dash cams have a parking mode with motion detection. Would not be without one these days. Have caught everything from idiot drrivers and people sniffing round my cars through to people dumping rubbish and doing drug deals lol. Thinkware is about to release a new camera with cloud connectivity which I will be switching to asap, as at the moment if you car goes missing the video does to but this new camera will save triggered events to said cloud.

I have a RoadHawk HD in mine which at the time was Top of the Range and cost me £250 but really I'm looking for something now where I can see who/what has hit my car if it came to it.

I had a koonlung k1s installed on my car but as nice as it looked it started to give me issues so I changed to an thinkware f770. Fantastic unit, has its quirks but it's "set and forget" and the parking mode is the best I have tested. Will be swapping for the F800 Air once it's released tho as moving back to the topic of this thread, it would have recorded the scum trying to take the vehicle and the goings on around it, and fired it up to the cloud for safe storage.

Thanks for the heads up for this then. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open for it's release. :)

Top man, hopefully they take it seriously.

I keep telling myself to get someone in to assess the security of the house, need to upgrade locks etc but never get around to it. I have CCTV on the house, won't stop them but more for my piece of mind. Not sure where I stand with extra security on a wooden door with glass panes?

I've got the Blackvue DR650GW which does Park mode/Motion sensor - (also does Cloud/nice thing being parked outside the house it connects to my wifi ) Older 450 model now installed into my wifes car also.

Front and back camera in both so hopefully caught something.

when you guys say cloud, do you need to pay a monthly subscription for that service or will it upload to a free service ie google drive/dropbox?

Glad that OP is OK.

These stories horrify me. I wish our society was better than this!

I already have cloud based recording on my Blackview DR650S-2CH camera. (Around £320-380) The challenge however is maintaining cloud connectivity, since the in-car wifi solution switches itself off to prevent the car battery running down. I do have a portable mi-fi set up, which will maintain internet connectivity when the car is switched off, but I can't seem to get it to charge when its plugged into the car USB - I suspect the amps from the socket is not enough to maintain the charge. It will run 10 hours on its internal battery.
The Blackvue allows you to set up connectivity with 3 hotspots, and it will switch between the three automatically depending on which on is working.

  • I have a wifi repeater in the garage, so it connects when its garaged and uploads any "events" to the cloud over home internet.
  • I have my in-car wifi, so it connects to that when the car is running (provided the mi-fi is switched off, otherwise it latches onto that)
  • I have the mi-fi when its parked out in public somewhere.

In addition, when the camera is connected to the cloud, the App (iOS or Android) allows me to view a live stream from the car (front or rear camera) as well as locate/track the car on a map using the inbuilt GPS signal on the camera.

If you need more that the "free" data allowance, there is a small annual fee to pay.

Dam clever these Koreans :racer:

TBH - If I had encountered them - I'd have scared em for life (both mentally and physically) as me running downstairs b0110ck naked is enough to scare the living daylights out of anybody .....

Police/SOCO - said of about 3-4 other attempted break ins in the same area over the last week - plus a van broken into/tools taken other side of the village.

What you need is Google Wi-fi (or a similar system) that uses a Mesh network to extend your Wi-fi range but doesn’t result in loss of speed or stable connection which is what you get with a repeater. Obviously that’s only the case in your home or the area surrounding it.

As for home security it would recommend Nest as they have fantastic cameras with intelligent alerts that are stored in the cloud and you can access anywhere.

Unfortunate thing about the nest is the subscription charge being around £8 a month for ten day history. Without the subscription you can only view live feeds. But you still get alerts. And can see screenshots of event from the last three hours.
It is good though, I used it as a baby cam :D

A similar thing happened to me last month. Alarm went off at 3am on a Monday morning.

Ran downstairs and saw on the eypad that one of the kitchen window sensors had triggered.

Luckily for them the scrotes had legged it as I had a machete in my right hand and I would have used it to chop them up had they been in my house.

Sorry but I work damn hard for what I have and anyone who thinks they have a right to enter my home and possibly use force to take what they want when my family and I are home seriously have another thing coming.

They will lose a limb or the head off their shoulders before they take my car.

If they come back, they're getting it big time.

If you move the element of surprise away from these thieves they are actually quite powerless.

That is the most common time for them......around 3am Monday morning.

They know you are in and asleep....... and not much happening outside like you get on Friday and Saturday nights.
