I'm new to the forum and, maybe like other people, have been driven here in the hope that I might get some helpful advice please.
I have a 53 plate A6 Avant 2.5 TDI Quattro, still going strong at 195K miles.
I noticed after a long journey yesterday in the rain that my windscreen wipers wouldn't stop as they normally would. I tried starting and stopping the car a few times and returning the stick to the off position, but the wipers continued on constant. After experimenting, the best I could achieve for the time being was to turn to the intermittent set and put the frequency as low as possible.
I've done some initial research and it looks like this might be an issue with the relay. However, a few people have said that there are different colour relays and I'd rather avoid having too take it to a main dealer and spending more than I need to.
Does anyone have any advice/wisdom please on:
1. What relay I might need? Are there multiple options here, or just one?
2. Where I locate the existing relay (am I right in thinking it's on the driver's side, under the knee panel)?
3. Can a simple bloke like me do this, or do I need expertise/specific equipment?
4. What should I be looking to pay to get the relay? Where should I try?
