No idea.
George has been less active on forums lately though so hopefully soon.
(Do fine with current sw version but looking forward anyway... :))

I don't think there is anything in that, power seems high but that's easily manipulated or just down to the dyno.
The 2nd run normally always makes more power. Only thing is with the size of our turbo it's always been accepted that making low power normally comes at the cost of high end power.

Kicking myself more now but not trying map 2 but I prefer the car on map 6. I'll run again if I mod her further and make better use of the runs next time

Also without any mods to cool the air to and from the turbo on a dyno our cars are cooking themselves. On the road in the UK the top end should make another 10hp easily. A little fan isn't anything like the airflow at the top end of 3rd or 4th and so on. My IAT is fine on logging on the road and then on the dyno it was 140f in a 70f room by the end of the first run. On the road it would have been 90f and would have run more timing

Also his map 6 settings are really aggressive, 23 psi at 2.5k

140f is HOT...
Almost certainly would have been even better figures at 90.

My run that made 328whp was 150f so yes with an updated intercooler I would have made more power on the dyno but on a normal day in the UK I'm sure it would be nearly the same on the road

Will running a decat/sports cat downpipe allow one to run higher boost ?

Why do people use absolute instead of additive boost values, and one thing I've noticed is the boost levels increase per gear, anyone else notice that ?

So that it raises the boost in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and runs the same boost pressures all year around. This of course means settings in the winter might be too aggressive in the summer heat.

Ups and downs for both

Just want to get an opinion on this log, additive peak 6.5psi. Starting from gear 1 to redline gear 4

The post gear change 'overshoot boost' in 4th is quite high, 27 psi.
Other than that it looks very good.

A software update including gear change boost adaption is coming soon though. End of April according to latest update from George.

Thanks, will be getting a downpipe and intake soon and will see how much I can improve further . The boost overshoot happens every time in all of my logs.

Hi guys!

Here temperature has suddenly changed from winter cold to about 20 C.

Grateful for the logging capabilities of JB4!
Had to lower some from 5000 rpm and up (map 6).

Still great power but suddenly feeling the itch for an IC... :D

Anyway, worth doing new logs now when summer approaches.

You do really feel the extra heat when pushing a stock car. From what I've seen an intercooler really does keep the temps down so you'll always be making more power.

I'm sorry guys, but really a retarded question... I just got the JB4 in the plastic all weather casing.. I can't figure out how to open the casing to install the data cable, there's no screws on it, just pry from those 4 little holes on the sides?? Just want to make sure and not damaging the casing... Thanks!

Thanks! Got it opened and installed the cable just now! So I can use an USB adapter and connect an OTG USB cable to connect to Android right?
U can connect to android if u got jb4 apo or u can connect directly on laptop as well

Thanks guys! Was trying to figure out how to route the data cable inside the cabin and then realized I really need the BT connection kit... While regret not getting it with the JB4 and will need to pay double the postage, found the perfect solution!! Addon BT module to the JB4, don't even need the additional wire and it's entirely self contained inside the case! The best part is it's at fiction of the BT connection kit's cost haha! Soldering needed though :) Now, I'm regret getting the USB data cable LOL

Well... And it now mean I have to wait for it to arrive next week before I can install the JB4... :(

Nothing Bad just going for a proper map, as I have already mapped the gearbox so I might aswell do the engine

Been wondering since I read this...how did the JB4 compare to the proper map and what brand did you go with??

Ran my first additive map settings today as suggested by George. A massive difference in power delivery, very linear and any jerkiness that was there previously has now gone.
I'm running 98RON with the following mods.
BMS Intake with larger turbo inlet elbow
BMS turbo muffler delete
GFB Diverter valve +

Also managed to break the 4 second barrier for the first time, so I am very happy

@Wood_Duck You're stacking with tune right? Which tune are you running mind me asking? Thx!

I've been reading a lot on different forums about JB4 and I can't seem to find a definite answer to below question:

If I'm running Map 1 (and not map 6) am I still able to set a max boost in 1st of e.g. 2 psi to put less stress on the clutch if using launch control?

I don't think I'm going to spend the time on making a customised map 6 since people say map 1 feels slightly more responsive and it doesn't stress the engine/clutch as much. I'm wanting to get 340-350 hp just to be able to kill some m135i/m140i's :whistle2:

Map 6 is better than map 1 for smoothness and your clutch if it is set up correctly. You just don't want too much boost before 3.5k to save your clutch. Bringing the torque in later can move the power band up as well

Frankly clutch is stressed more in high gears than low. In powerful cars clutch slips mostly when using low rpms and high gears. Maybe someone wiser can elaborate more but this is what Ive understood..?

That is more about your driving than the map, if you run full power you can get slip in 2nd gear at 3k when boost hits hard. The idea is too keep the boost lower so torque doesn't spike and cause a slip. There is loads of info in this thread - http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26404

I see. Don't know if it was you but someone also talked about the car feeling more like a natural aspired car by moving the power band up.

Just made the below settings as a mock up with intended max boost in 1st set to 3.5 psi. I have to ask George about if this can be run with 95 ron fuel, or if I should stay below 4.5 psi similar to map 1.

rpm psi
1500 0,0
2000 1,0
2500 2,0
3000 3,0
3500 4,0
4000 4,2
4500 4,5
5000 4,8
5500 4,8
6000 4,8
6500 4,5
7000 4,0

Has anyone on this thread changed from a JB4 to an ECU tune?

It wasn't me, map 1 is just a preset of settings that can be used in map 6. Just a shipping map as such so people can fit it and enjoy without using the data cable.

Map 1 is safe for 95 ron I believe but always best to log the car and find out

I know the differences between the maps, but I didn't knew what settings were used in map 1 since 4.5 psi is just stated as the average additive boost, and since someone talked about it being more responsive I thought I would just stick with that.

However I think I'll just write George from BMS when I get the JB4 since map 6 makes more sense now. Thank you for your help.

No worries, If you log map 1 you can see the boost it is adding and where in the map.

additive is better overall but I'm using relative and having good results, well 328whp on just the JB4

U can run map 1 and set the boost by gear on 1st, 2nd or 3rd for less stressing n less excessive wheelspin.

Guys I want to try addictive map. Maybe someone has something strong :) with boost around 24psi

you can use a log to copy absolute settings and make them additive, log again and see how it goes

can someone post the original Map 2 settings?
