Are these easy to fit (plug and play) and where do you connect the wires into?

Easy if you can take a door panel off
you also need to cut out the botton of the door card
so you can install the bottom light
The rear door panel on my 2009 there is a screw under the window power switch cover that needs to be removed as well as the 1 behind the handle trim :icon thumright:

wiring on my 2009 sportback was

Front doors
Pin 18 = Live
Pin 19 = Ground

Rear doors
Pin 1 = Live
Pin 2 = Ground

Then code the car using vcds

This is a great guide
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/my-diy-guide-for-retro-fitting-puddle-lights.58244/

my door trims are not like this but much the same to remove

Ive just retrofitted the door handle lights, puddle lights and the red door warning lights to my sportback.
What an absolute mare!
I bought the set of ebay from a breakers with all the wiring and handles, only they came from an 05 and Audi in there infinite wisdom, changed the pinouts on the front door modules and most of the colour coding on the wiring is different on facelift A3's.
All working now but my god my heads spinning lol

Needs VCDS programming. Check Ash's guide out

Being a cheapskate and the adventerous kind, I ordered these a few days ago from AliExpress. The seller promised that it will work with my 2005 8P and the bulbs are halogen so I can fit whatever LED I want, either eBay or Trups. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes...

I may try these for my a3

Cool. We fail or succeed together comrade .

What's your A3 year? It seems that the pin configurations are different for pre-facelift models and I think I need to find what's mine

2010 A3 s line

Ah lucky you in the sense that most guides out there use the facelift models and potentially less hassle fitting.

LOL, it will still go wrong, no good at this sort of stuff

It has arrived! Ordered on the 15th. That was quick. All halogen bulbs and the components are OEM. Now to find someone to code VCDS for me and the to fit.

Fitted some puddle lights yesterday, no issues, think they look good, had to take the door cards off to install them though.

Hi, did you use the ebay kit?
How much cutting and joining of wires is involved

Yeah, got them from eBay, they were plug and play, no messing with wires.

Really? No cutting or splicing original wires?
Very good news

Haven't had much time this week so project on hold. However I did get the VCDS coding done thanks to Alex in Bounds Green.
Have been looking at cheap LED options to replace the bulbs in the mean time and found these which seem to be a steal (if you have patience that is).

I have a similar two level version from eBay in all my door and footwell lights - bit fiddly but like the fact they maximise light output for the fitting size ...

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!

Yup. That's how I'd describe my first attempt. Only managed to get one door done and between the drilling and soldering etc. Took a few fair hours. The light output from the OEM halogens are okay but getting the puddle lights from Trups anyway.

Good news is can't fault the eBay kit. In a job like this the main time waster is the other parts.

Oh and did I say that my friend helping him (bless him) managed to drop the door card and get it scratched too?

Can you tell me what's involved and why it's hard?
Really want to fit these but heard it's a pain but then someone posts that it's easy with no cutting or joining, bit confused now lol

Hey,
Where did you get the pins from please? Don't think Maplins do them. Would definitely save a lot of time as I ended up soldering the earth
Thanks.

And finally!

Here's what I learned in the whole process.

- Ensure you know what the PIN numbers are before starting. For my 2005 Sportback it was PIN 1 live and 2 ground for all doors

- Creating the cutouts for the puddle lights are very time consuming. So is door removal. Factor that time in. Also you should invest in some basic tools. See http://www.lightnings.dk/tools_en.html. I'm glad that I had a set of plastic tools handy

- The plastic on the door card scratches easily. Take care to handle when removing/working with it

- The looms that I ordered from AliExpress didn't have connectors for earth. I assume so that they can be soldered in given the number to make and model the set supports. On my 2005 Sportback and indeed any pre facelift A3 it's only the driver side door connection requires soldering for earth as all earths in the main connector are occupied. The rest are effectively plug and play.
To get around you'll need a so called DuPont (female) connector (2.54mm). Something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252058269888 . Since I was impatient and couldn't wait for eBay delivery I went to Maplin and got these http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-01-inch-series-socket-terminal-yw25c. You'll need to crimp the connector to the earth wire (I used my hand haha but a good crimping tool wouldn't got amiss)

- The standard filament bulbs that came with the set are surprisingly good, at least for the warning lights (red). In the picture I posted, two are LED and two standard. Can you tell the difference? I'm getting LEDs for the puddle lights since the filament ones aren't strong enough.

Ultimately, for the price I can't fault the AliExpress looms and lights. It's the process of fitting that was the challenging part.

Lots of helpful information in the original thread http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/my-diy-guide-for-retro-fitting-puddle-lights.58244

Hey,
See my last post. Soldering cutting etc. because I have an older pre-facelift model. In your case it will be hopefully simpler. Also note that if you order the kit from AliExpress or eBay the earth cable won't come with a connector as described in my post and you should be comfortable handling it.
Good luck!

Think I be getting some
