Hi All,

I've run a scan on my "new" Audi A3 and have recovered the following fault codes. I have the Engine Management light on on the dash so I know there is an issue with the engine faults, however I dont want to change evergything! Does anyone have any suggestions as to:

1 - how to work out what the fault codes are exactly (Ross-Tech site wasn't very helpful here and not all the codes give a description!)

2 - Apart from the engine faults, how important are the others?

Thanks!!

going by what i am reading it looks like your Vcd's is not genuine the ( Cable i mean ) as it comes up in some parts saying unlicensed version so i would advise getting someone with a genuine Cable to run an auto scan and see if these faults are there and compare them to your scan .

Hi ch1z64, thanks for your reply. You are correct, it is an non-genuine cable, but in general the output should be the same no? (barring the fault code descriptions)

I am new to using these diagnostic tools, so the output posted above is what it returned before clearing any fault codes. I cleared them all recently and have done a few hundred miles since.

Focusing only on the engine faults (I'm not too worried about the rest... yet), today it returned 3 faults before clearing any fault codes and then only 1 fault after clearing the codes and re-running straight away.

Before clearing DTCs:
3 Faults Found:
17811 - EGR System
P1403 - 008 - Regulation Deviation - MIL ON
18322 - Pressure Sensor for Brake Boost (G294)
P1914 - 002 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
17480 - NOx Sensor (G295) Heater Control
P1072 - 008 - Circuit Malfunction - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0100

Straight after clearing them and re-running:
1 Fault Found:
17811 - EGR System
P1403 - 008 - Regulation Deviation
Readiness: 1110 0101

What I do not understand now is whether the only actual fault I have is the EGR? I assume from what I have read that I need to either replace the EGR valve, just clean it and replace it or get a removal kit. The question is whether the "intermittent" fault codes for brake boost and NOx are an actual issue or just unhelpful errors due to the EGR valve?

i see where your coming from , so probably better to get someone with a genuine cable and updated vcd's software and get them to do a Autoscan and then that should tell you if the original faults you got using your cable are real or just errors that had not been cleared before you bought car .
There is a VCD's users map on here and usually the lads will help tou out for a few beer tokens , hope that helps
