I've had lots of problems recently with blue smoke.
I've replaced the whole pcv system at stages over the last few months.
The issue seemed to have cured.
Over the last couple of days again I get a puff of smoke when the engine starts and at times when on idle.
I'm thinking of getting a used engine, then I think it's turbo related.....
What do u guys think, I'm getting so frustrated with the car.

If the problem is only blue smoke, at idle and engine start, that to me suggests valve stem oil seals. I would rather get get a technician to replace them rather than put in someone else's engine (which you don't know the history of).

What sort of money would I expect to pay ?
Surely this would be head off job so new gasket and new timing belt etc ?
I've done a grand on this car in the last couple on months.
Loosing faith in this car !
The drive is awesome, handling the pull.
Real shame

Yep it's head off. What's the mileage? Unfortunately 100k plus and stem seals are likley to be on the cards, as is oil pump at some point (mine **** itself at 116k I believe).

These cars are money pits to be blunt about it.

124 k
I've had people following me and it's smokes under load and also when idling when warm.
I've also found Another air leak recently under the inlet manifold.
Gonna take a punt on a new turbo as it's still original and get the pcv pipe sorted and see what happens.
The car drives perfectly.
Just smokes and uses about half a litre of oil every month

What I was getting to was if it was stem seals the smoke would clear after 1st start in the morning surely.
Unless there are leaking like a tap

My friend said there were puffs of smoke when driving hard and changing gear !

To be honest all we can do is speculate. Burning oil is either going to be pcv, turbo seals, stem seals or piston rings blowby. If it drives perfectly then I'd be looking at pcv first (I would anyway) and see what happens. Has it been smoke tested? Check EVERY pipe for blockages? Do that before blowing your load on a new turbo

I have changed all pcv pipes in pic 1
But have a hissing noise underneath the inlet manifold.

I am gonna take of the inlet at some point soon and get those pipes replaced.

Would leaking pipes cause smoke ?

My friend has an astra vxr and the s3 seems to keep up with his car so I don't think it's lacking much power

Hissing noise means boost leak, so you are losing power, pipes under the inlet manifold are nortorious for splitting. Get it smoke tested and then you can see exactly what pipes need replacing.

It the pipes are clogged then yes.

Does any body have the OE part numbers for these breather pipes

You could try using the parts database...

http://www.oemepc.com/audi

Click on the A3 block, click on the year of your car and go to the engine section, scroll down that until you get to the 'ventilation for cylinder head cover' and choose which one is for your engine code.

This may also help...

http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/pcv-system-part-cant-find-part-number-anywhere.240707/

Some part numbers on there.

Out of curiosity have you thought of taking out your intercoolers and cleaning them,if not I expect there may be oil sitting in the bottom of them.At least if you know they're clean once you've replaced all your pipes, you could rule out any oil being picked up from them and sucked into the combustion process.

In the picture here. Is no 6 the pcv valve ? This is one which clogs ?

I've changed loads of these pipes. I really did not realise how much of this there was !!

I would recommend doing a pvc delete mate. All those hoses are nothing more than over engineered useless junk which rot and cause numerous air leaks. Rip it all out, start from scratch and simplify the system.

Any layman's guides on here on doing pcv delete ?
I'm pretty handy with a car.
Confident with a clutch etc but don't want to be ripping out something I need.
Also I use the car daily so would prefer to have all parts available and get it done in a day.
Any ideas on what I would need as on pipes and clips.
Thanks for your advice by the way

About 2 meters 19mm oil grade hose, couple 90 degree connectors and a couple 45 degree connectors a 19 mm catch can a if venting back in to the tip then 1 air breather for the catch can or 2 if venting to atmosphere. There is a how to in the stickies about how to do it but no pictures anymore.
