So very annoying managed to hit another car from behind slowly and no obvious damage done to either of us so we both just agreed to shake on it and leave it which is fine.

But I've noticed a few minor scratches and some hazing of the paint on the right hand side bumper - I've attached a photo. It's where my jean roll ups are in my reflection. It's very hard to see and no one would notice it unless they inspected the bumper.

I'm assuming that a smart repair mobile service could mask off the area and polish out the area so it's like new but am I right about that?

Pretty sure it could be machine polished out mate, as long as there no scratches and cant feel that its below the paint then should be a easy cheap fix

I need to wash the area and look in good light but the scratches are just surface and the more obvious is the paint being hazy - not sure how to describe it but you can all see it.

Is the area under the front grill attached solidly to something? As I pressed on that area and it moved a bit - I don’t know if that’s how it is meant to be or if something came loose underneath from the collision... (then again I have noticed quite a bit of the body work on this car doesn’t seem as sturdy as my Golf R - the side panels for example will very easily bend under pressure.)

You could try yourself with a bit of ordinary polish - not wax. I've polished out several scrapes like that over the years.

You'll be able to polish this out yourself if the paint ain't broken, gtechniq Nano polish will do the job nicely swear by this polish, Audi scratched the rear wing above the arch Nano polish took it away with just one pass with a microfiber applicator no need for da polisher

Great idea - pick up some polish from Halfords and have a go myself by hand - I can’t make it worse.

Exactly. And even if you do make it worse, you sound mentally prepared to get a smart repair anyway. Give it a go, I say.

Try autoglym super resin polish first if that don't work Autoglym renovating polish will..... But gently does it

Well I’d be very gentle - I cant imagine making it worse. (Unless I am so impressed with my attempts I over do it lol).

I’ve already emailed a couple of smart repair companies to see what they say; its not an issue with a new car.

What surprised me is that there isn’t more damage.. It was a very slow collision but the way the front of the car is designed it always seemed to me there was more to damage than on the front of say my Golf.

Bumpers are very malleable to a extent

So using the flash on my phone in the dark after a little wipe down it's mainly scratches to the area which I'm sure will polish out. They are light.

There is a small dent and scratches in the grill. I'd leave the dent. It's plastic so I'm sure it would have to be replaced totally to fix that which isn't worth it.

I think maybe I'd ask the smart repair people to just touch that up.

Thoughts?

Update: There is also a small dent in the bumper below the light next to where the grill is dented. Probably the other car bumper I imagine. I don't think these are worth fixing as they aren't obvious unless looked for. The scratches however I'd want fixed.

I imagine an S3 BE grill and the front lower bumper would be over a £1000 to replace and have painted which isn't worth while for something that can't be seen.

The high gloss plastic grille surround.... Erm l don't think the smart repair guys could improve it much more than you could yourself with a flat black touch up pen, as for the scratches they will come good if you buy the correct polish, disperse with the scratches first then attempt the grille surround with touch up pen

A smart repair will cost you over £100,you will do it for £30

I've found that as well, parts of it feel flimsier than the MK5 R32 I had. Guess that's cost cutting for you, or is that weight saving for performance lol

The front door panels are indeed soft/pliable and can be dented very easily indeed, the saloons boot lid feels like it'll fly off as you pull it up.....exterior panel build quality on Audi's ain't any better than any other VAG product

So 3 dents to the bumper. Two are next to the grill (in orange) and one is under the light.

Scratches are in red. Also put a photo without the highlights so you can see that they are all pretty much impossible to see unless you look very carefully.

I guess get the scratches repaired. See if smart repair can pull out the dents in the bumper around the grill and just touch up the grill. And hope someone reverses into my car so I can claim for them to fix it. Lol.

Just looking at PDR paintless dent removal - maybe they can take out the dents to the bodywork and I can sort out the scratches and that would just leave the grill which I can live with and change easily enough at a later date.

Also the lights flashing on the gear shift played up tonight. Here is a gif.

Also my driver side door is way too noisy at motorway speeds. Sounds like something is wrong with the sound proofing or seal. And my windscreen wiper keeps catching even in the rain on the windscreen.

This is the most expensive car that has so many issues I've ever had. Shame I also damaged it today.

The light in gearbox display will be a easy fix, l thought you had pre since on your car ie that self breaking aid????? Aye a brand new car and something like this happens damn hope you get all sorted soon

Edit just had a look at my car the high gloss black grille surround looks like a separate part from the main grille perhaps you source this part and just renew it

Yes I have pre-sense but it didn't do anything. I have it set to medium and I'll change it to early from now.

But I think the reason it didn't do anything was because the car in front was pulling off and then stopped for no reason (the road was clear). As a result I think the sensor probably thought the car was moving off and when it stopped it was too late. That's my theory anyway.

It really is very hard to see in the daylight having had a look today. I'm going to get some polish in a bit and have a go with the scratches and see what the dent removal people I emailed last night say about those tomorrow.

I'm not sure the grill surround on the facelift is separate but I'll check it out.

A freind of mines van was scratched all down the side from top-bottom when he brushed against a hedge on a narrow country road. I managed to get them all out with my DA and ultimate compound, took about 30 mins max!

I tried autoglym scratch remover and polish and couldn't remove the scratches although I imagine that's just because I wasn't doing it properly. No reason why light scratches wouldn't come out.

However my plan for the dent removal is a no go as the bumper is plastic. So sort out the scratches and leave it as it is for now.

You need some quality applicators they make all the difference, l took out a fine scratch on the back bumper yesterday in less than a minute.....also l still think the grill surround is a separate part from the front grill......

Link to a quality applicator? The scratch removal kit came with one but I spent a good 10 minutes and I am not sure anything changed at all.
