I'm currently waiting for mine to come into the UK. I'm at Emden.

Has anyone received one yet? I thought it would be good to have a topic specifically for the new engine.

Cheers.

Sounds like its going to be a cracker of a little engine!

Id love to see what the capabilities of this new engine will be.

Mine moved to Status 60 today, so should be with dealer soon. However, we are moving away from dealer, so will have to wait for the car to be transported to new location, which hopefully will happen at the end of next week.

I hope so. I initially order the 1.4 but it changed at week 22.

I've never even driven the 1.4 before I bought it so I'm very keen to get behind the wheel. I'm currently status 38 at Emden.

Make sure you cone here to give it a little write up. Sounds like you will be one of the first.

I had a test drive in a 1.4 before I ordered. Despite carrying 3 people I found it surprisingly responsive, comparable to my GTD. I read a review that said the new 1.5 delivers the torque of a diesel without the NOX emissions. I decided on the 1.4 (1.5 as it will be built) because I'll run my A3 as a company car. The 1.5 is good compromise between BIK price and performance.

I'm doubting that the 1.5 will be much different from the 1.4 cod in real world motoring. Still if its as good then it will be a gem of a engine...

Yes I agree that the 1.5 will be a "cracker of an engine", just as the 1.4 is. The change has apparently been made for certain export markets who favour the 1.5 designation (China?). There is AFAIK little difference between the 2 engines in terms of performance and emissions. I still favour my 1.4 COD S-Line with 18" wheels at 109gm and £20 a year VED. I don't think the 1.5 can beat that?

The 1.5 is 116g/km in the same spec. Nearly lost my car allowance because of the change lol.

Mine arrived today, delivered 380 miles from dealer. Only had a short drive this evening, but it feels great, very responsive and quiet. Difficult to compare to my MK 7 1.4 Golf (122bhp) as I'm driving on roads I'm not familiar with, but 44 mpg on a short run before it's run in seems pretty good. VC superb.

The emissions rise could well cause problems for those with company cars. There's a threshold above which the company can only write off 85% of the value of the car against corporation tax, rather than the full value. At present this is 133g/km but is coming down to 111g/km next year, so the new 1.5 will be above that whereas the old 1.4 wouldn't have been.

Just another reason I've decided to ditch my company car after 20 years.

Some average MPG figures from the 1.5 COD. Route taken was Killin to Oban A82/A85

The average across the whole tank (brim to brim) was 47.6 MPG. Not bad for mostly fast A road trips and an engine that's barely broken in.
