What have you done today?

You've got a big soldering session ahead of you to convert your plugs to the 3 colours...

to get the cluster to work is pretty easy as my car had a poverty spec cluster and when i retroffited the current one the fis harness i ordered had both the 20 and 32 pin connectors

the blue connector is essentially my grey connector (2 blue one green on my car)
Fis

the green connector will require some pins to be swapped around, my issue will be my gearbox sends a dedicated wire to the cluster for gear indication but the colour fis draws gear info from the canbus which my car doesnt have (it ignores that wire completely on the green connector) so i will probably not have any selected gear information on there from what i can see.

What a funny setup...

Wonder why they had a previous revision with the cluster plugs.

I hope you can get in there ok to do the job. Maybe best to pull the plugs and wiring down toward the pedals for more space?

i think the smaller 20 pin plug just didnt have a future for expansion, not enough pins to maybe add additional features

im just glad i have a dis after starting out with this one when i bought the car (I still have that cluster cause my original key is locked to it as i never managed to succeed in erasing it, its my just in case of emergency cluster)

when i switch to the immo 3 cluster i will have door open warnings atleast and distance to next service which the pfl's dont have

nothing beats the colour mfa's you guys have though :astonished:

Finally completed this tonight, ready for installation tomorrow

That's an interesting HVAC controls.

the joy of shared platforms, its from a Seat Leon Cupra, was plug and play no coding needed, 1st gen porsche boxter ones also fit in PFL 8l's like that.

so my 3 hour deadline turned into a 9 hour nightmare, there was support brackets i had to remove and at the end i struggled for 2 hours with clearance issues behind the headunit. Finally finished at 8pm Yesterday, i only need to still make adjustments to the button surround at the top of the console as its fouling the hazard switch at times. I also took the esp switch apart and replacement the red led with a green one, which makes it look much better imo.

this is the part where i asked myself WTF am i doing this again.

The end result was worth the sweat and tears

LOL your engine is stuffed?

So does the controls work with colorMFA???

I feel you should tear down the setup for us and detail it ;)

Yeah piston rings have gone have not drove the car since October!
No the controls will not work with the mfa ( well they will work but won't display nothing ) although I have not wired them up yet as I would need a new canbus and s few other bits was quoted £550 to get the controls working will investigate what parts and might try it later on

It was very easy to fit 2x torx screw to remove old airbag m12 spline bit to remove old wheel . Tighten new wheel on and new airbag I'd pushfit. I got the harness made for , only 4 wires and 2 of em are earths

yas pics pls of wiring :D

updated the maps on my headunit to the latest available, also connected it to the internet

then i removed my ****** faded puddle light

 faded puddle light

upon removal it actually broke apart and on close inspection noticed that the led actually melted the plasting surround of the projector

It actually melted

45 minutes later (they copy the lights from each other but not the connectors. the connectors are always different for some reason ) installed new ****** puddle light that will most likely have the same fate (these lights last about a year and a half max, if ur lucky)

New one fitted

Today I have been one very very lucky boy!!!! Started with a lumpy idle on Wednesday evening but seemed fine on booosts, checked for any air leaks over the next couple of evenings to no avail.
I was heading to Birmingham to drop off my seats to be re-trimmed so I thought I'd give Bill a call on fridsy to see if it was possible to do a quick smoke test for me.
Drive down to badger 5 this morning, Tuffty and the yoof hook up the smoke machine to try find any leaks..... nope was none. So next take the rocker cover off to check the timing..... the plastic guides on the vvt tensioner were missing!!!! the chain had started eating into tensioner removed the vvt tensioner to find half a guide lodged in a oil drain hole. No sign of the other half so the sump had to come off, the other half was stuck in the oil strainer.
So a simple smoke test turned into a big job. Big thanks to Bill @badger5 , @<tuffty/> and the yoof for getting me back on the road today, they could have done without that with being so busy.
I drove 230miles with a knackered vvt tensioner and a strainer half blocked..... lady luck was certainly on my side today!!
Here's is the offender. Biatch!!!

Thats the forge one that i ordered. What makes you think that its just a original polished one?
did you order it direct from Forge?

Forge ones I have seen don't have the silencer by the turbo and should be made from alloy tube not steel...

The one in the picture even has the OE clip to hook the N75/Dump valve pipes in... Forge one never had that

<tuffty/>

I bought it 2nd hand of ebay. It was advertised as a forge charge pipe and i never thought of checking it against the forge website. It was the cheap price that caught my eye more than the details. I have looked on the forge site now and i can see some differnces myself. I have basically payed for a debaffeld chrome charge pipe.

I wouldn't be too concerned if it was cheap enough, it looks better than the Forge one in my opinion and isn't going to be any different in performance
