Hi all,

Been youtubing for weeks in search of nice exhaust setups for the BEX 1.8t.. all that appears to come up are USA videos of full straight through exhausts / muffler deletes etc...

Anyone gone down the backboxes replaced only route perhaps? Videos etc appreciated!

I just want *some* drama when giving it some poke as these b6ers aren't half quiet.. a slight burble from the exhaust when coming off the gas wouldn't go a miss... Any recommendations?

Jd

I say go turbo back from a custom exhaust place (but I'm biased ).

All honesty I would but money is tighter at present while finishing off my house project... I am worried about going too loud just a little rumble....

For sound clips your best bet is to type in B6 1.8t back box delete. See what vids you get.

Honestly, I just dont think its worth to simply snip off the back boxes. yes you will get a lot more noise but not sure it will be a quality one.

Even though money is tight, wait a little while longer and go full TBE (Jake and myself has) or Cat back.

That lovely burble is usally accentuated when you go de-cat.

If you insist, source a local custom fabricator and ask them to cut the back boxes and well a straight pipe. Not an expensive jobby but why not get the whole thing done for a few Queens heads more :p

Unfortunately this was on a diesel but the process is the same.

Not many how to's with pictures now thanks to photbucket but, cutting the top off the standard boxes, removed the baffle plates etc, reconnect the entry and exit pipes with a perforated pipe tack/weld in position, wrap with wire wool then rockwool, replace the top and weld it back on. I think this would be both cost effective and worthwhile mod. Deserstorm did a how to with his Passat and Audi but I can't find them or photobucket has killed the pics.

YAY, found a similar one, http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/amazing-result-from-mufflerectomy-tested-on-dyno.203726/

Wasn't looking at straight piping or removing the boxes as this would be too asbo for a daily drive that is currently more or less stock.. just wondering if anyone has gone aftermarket backboxes only for a little more rumble...

YouTube only has cut pipes and are louddddd

I didn't mean straight piping in that way. You remove/cut the top off the stock rear silencer, remove the internals, join the entry and exit pipes with perforated exhaust pipe such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/63mm-2-5-...162332&hash=item1c453624c2:g:lGYAAOSwxCxT~HlA
The perforated pipe will then be wrapped in wire wool and then the remainder of the rear silencer filled with rockwool, then the top that was cut off can be welded back on, giving you a stack look with a little more throatiness, maybe I didn't explain it very well last time.

The Youtube link was really just to show what the rear silencer contained, I hope this helps.

If that's no good you could always chop the stock ones off and fit a couple of Cherry Bombs in their place?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PRO-Bomb-...229730?hash=item3a9691a1e2:g:XSQAAOSwx-9WyGAV

They could be connected with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exhaust-P...221949&hash=item1e83dceffe:g:3WsAAOSwezVWzE2g

Probably need the hangers welded on though.

Watching with interest. How critical is exhaust design on a forced induction engine?

Very important.

Ideally if you're looking for max power than you need as big a diameter exhaust as possilbe AFTER the turbo. For NA engines, its a different ball game.

3'' decat, straight pipe is obviously the best for un-interupted gas flow. 3.5'' would be even better but it wouldnt fit. (or at least be very difficult to manufacture)

Any restrictions in the exhaust or 'kinks' where the pipe bends and you will disrupt the gas flow causing cut backs in power.

If you are shooting for BIG power and you want everything maxed out, then follow the above. If not, then it wont really apply.
