Just wondering how many of you guys, when filling up let the fuel cap rest against the paint work or lock it in to it's designated slot / hole on the fuel cover.

I stick it in the hole, keep the paintwork looking its best.

Always goes in the correct place. Couldn't sleep at night if it touched the paint work.

This.

Dripped a tiny bit of fuel on the car when pulling the nozzle out despite shaking it yesterday... I was straight into the boot for the MF cloth and quick detailer :D

I never knew this was there, coming from a TT with no screw cap I did find it irritating resting it on the bodywork. This is life changing.

I've always used the hole for the cap!. Shame on anyone letting it dangle down resting on the paint work TUT TUT

That pesky dribbling from the nozzle.....gets worse with age :tearsofjoy:. Seriously though, it's more of an issue with diesel than petrol.

Always use the holder. Spotted it the first time I filled up my old car, surprised there are people who still haven't spotted it yet!
 
Seems odd that most OEMs are still using such archaic sealing arrangements for the fuel tanks. Ford have have been using Martinrea's capless self sealing filler necks for years.

That's the same with heated front screens though, you think in this day and age that would be a standard feature!

To be fair, Ford did own the rights and patents to the technology that enabled these types of screens to be built, and they weren't letting just anyone use the ideas.

I had it on a 1990 Ford escort RS turbo (130bhp of torque steer so bad you needed wrist braces), and my '07 transit had it. As Ford bought and sold different companies over the years they gained (and then retained when Ford need to take the money and run) the rights to use it, hence its adoption on Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin and Volvo products. Collaborations with other companies also saw it appear in things like VW's Sharan and SEAT's Alhambra (Ford Galaxy), and Fiats Panda (Ford Ka). As patents have expired (Fords first its many patents date back to the early '80's) other makers have been able to build screens of a similar type, but since most cars have HVAC systems of far greater efficiency than the asthmatic wheezy excuses for screen demisting fitted to cars that were first designed in the 70's, and engines are tuned so that they get to operating temperature much much faster than was required in 1985 (emissions), there's less and less need for such a system. Skoda offer some cars with it, as do Volvo and JLR, but it only tends to be a common offering in colder climes.

My brother has it on his VW Transporter too, I guess it's more useful in icy weather which being in England could be any time of the year! Nothing worse than seeing someone drive out the work car park after a night shift with a clear screen while you're still scraping/sitting waiting for it to clear.
 
You get the option of a heated windscreen on the A7's and the A8's

as for the fuel cap.....its always baw deep....in the hole provided.............

Never knew it existed, always slipped it in beside the hole, never let it dangle lol
