Hi Guys - Just wondering what functionality is displayed on the non virtual cockpit version? Looks like this will be just out of my company allowance :(

Do you get a smaller version of the Navigation system for example?

We didn't opt for Virtual Cockpit on ours, so we have the standard dials and the poverty spec' black and white LCD and while you get some Navigation, such as street, graphic to show turns coming up and lanes etc it's NOT a smaller version of the main, fully animated screen.

Personally doesn't bother me, as I work all day, everyday on multiple large computer screens, so not looking at another one while driving was the reason we didn't tick the VC option.

However for MY18 cars, from what I can gather, its now standard to get the colour display between the conventional dials, which does show more of the usual Navigation than the 2016/2017 cars do (ours is May 2016).

Check the configurator on www.audi.co.uk to be sure.

I've also got the monochrome display and its an impressive display. Very clear and lots of options and pages of information. Bit of colour would be a bonus.

I have the colour DIS on mine. You do get a smaller version of the navigation that is displayed on the MMI. Also, special destinations such as speed cameras are displayed.

I was concerned going from the colour dis in the A3 to the monochrome one in the A4, but other than the colour, it's actually much better, clearer, bigger, more screens and more useful than the A3.

MY18 now get colour as standard though I think which will look even better.

:grinning:Any photos would be great!

Just waiting for a 3 day demo next week and hopefully placing an order after (assuming she who must be obeyed approves)

This isn't the best photo but shows that even the bog standard interior is a mighty impressive place to sit.

Awesome.. I'm waiting on my MY18 A4 Avant with the 7 inch colour DIS. Tech pack was just beyond my reach on the options list as I had too many other things I wanted. Glad to see the standard screen improved. Can you zoom in and out of the map or is it a fixed distance?

When a map is shown on the display, scroll the left thumbwheel up/down to make the map scale larger or smaller. However, if you set automatic zoom it will zoom in & out automatically.

A smaller monochrome display I believe without the ability to view a colour map.
Thanks. So to get the map between the dials, is that standard or do you need a tech pack or something?

You specifically need the 7 inch colour DIS. That now comes as standard on certain models following the MY18 changes to spec. If you search for MY18 changes on these forums you'll find your answer.

Another thing worth knowing is the DIS automatically changes to map view when route guidance is started.

I chose not to get VC because 1) I wasn't going to pay nearly £2k for it (as it depends on the tech kit) and 2) I actually prefer traditional dials. The mono screen looks ok and is nice and discreet, although the text is a little large in some places but you get used to it.

Unless you've a S4 of course as the tech pack is standard. Plus, for your nearly £2k, you are getting far more than just a VC...

Post MY18 isn't it now £1395 for the tech pack? Still expensive of course.

I think the problem is that the options are just endless! This will be my first new car when it arrives and I can't believe some of the stuff you have to pay for. VC - fair enough. But even my wifes mid range 2015 golf has adaptive cruise control - £1200 on the A4!!!

You could always get a kia or a hyundai if you want everything bar a kitchen sink thrown in or maybe a dacia?

Haha thanks for the tip. And VW too it would seem.

This will be my second Audi (and for the avoidance of doubt I can't wait- they are great cars). Just saying the standard kit could be a bit more generous for the price tag.

Sorry, gone off topic a bit.

Yeah in fairness the VC is standard on the Passat but it's no match to the Audi VC features and functionality.

I have a feeling Audi have removed the map view from the colour DIS on MY18. No option for it to display with nav active and selected on the DIS. Just get Street view, Last dest and Favourites in the menu. Might have to dig out my obdeleven.

They have a series 2 version in the new polo, maybe the new golf too, which is meant to be better...

I'll be a bit miffed if that's the case. The configurator says: "displays additional information from the standard DIS such as navigation map"

I had a quick faff about with this on Obdeleven today, but could get it to work. Will keep trying.

So is this a proper bona fida change with MY18 cars?

Dont know. My car doesn't have the option in the menus. I have multi-function high steering wheel, colour DIS and SD nav.

The manual implies that some cars have the ability to show map view in the colour DIS and some cars the street view in the colour DIS.

That's a bit of a shame!

How are you finding the standard SD sat nav and MMI system? Is it fairly responsive and quick to load?

I will keep trying with Obdeleven until I get there.

The Nav and MMI are great. MMI is really responsive and very intuitive. The nav is miles better than the VW Discover system I had previously. Google maps display drops out from time to time but I think this is down to the bandwidth available on the eSIM in different locations. You can always change to the native map if its a problem though.

Good to hear. I was a bit worried from the professional reviews that the standard MMI might be a bit laggy compared with the upgraded version.

I'd certainly be interested to know more if you manage to get the map working on the DIS!!

Cracked it. The process in the link I posted yesterday works. You just need to switch off the car completely and post obsessively about it on this forum for hours. Then go back to the car and it works.

Sweet, good work!

So for those of us poor souls who are not technically minded, can you summarise what you have to do to get it working?

Will I need to buy one of these OBD Eleven type devices and learn to become a computer programmer?!

See below.

2) Map display in dashboard with SD-based navigation

I have the basic MMI with SD-navigation and a color DIS. I was disappointed when i noticed the map couldn't be shown there like with the A6, probably to push us buying the VC. By this coding you can switch between showing the map or the original navigation instructions by controlling the DIS with a multifunctional steering wheel. If you leave it on the map next time you start the car it will show the map again.

You need to have the color DIS offcourse and also the multifunctional steering wheel

INFORMATION CONTROL UNIT 1
Dashboard_Display_Configuration
navigation_map_transmission_mode -> MOST_Streaming
navigation_map_compression_mode -> H264
navigation_map_Resolution -> resolution_1

You will need Obdeleven and an android phone/device to do this. The above text/process looks confusing, but once you have it on a screen in front of you, it's not that complex. I would hold on and see how yours comes out of the factory though. It does seem a bit hit and miss as to which cars get it and which don't.
