Hi All,

not sure if this is a simple RTFM, or something a bit weirder .....

Since picking up the S3 a couple of weeks ago - Google maps loaded really quickly/started up without any hesitation/cut over to the Satellite map view after a couple of minutes.

Was out yesterday evening, and Maps seemed to disappear/Virtual Cockpit went black (just leaving rev/speed dials) All the other VC screens are fine - so not a LCD issue.

Popup screen seemed to have then reverted back to the normal build in Satnav maps.

Stopped off somewhere - came back to car - and now it seems to stay longer on the built in maps, (a good 5-7 minutes) before then popping up a Picture of Earth saying starting Google Earth and then staying like that (doesn't progress any further) - was a good half hour left like that.

Came out to the car this morning - and still doing the same.

I've checked the other data services (all appear to be fine) so don't think it's a Signal issue.

Anybody had similar/found a workaround/how to force reset the MMI system ? Or am I looking at a stealership vist (3rd one after having found scratches on handover)

Happy to be told I'm a numpty and need to do XYZ to fix it - before I have to make the call to the dealership.

Cheers,

seyre

I don't know if it's a system wide problem but my 2017 S5 Coupe had the same issue last night. Same this morning until I went in to connected services and read some news stuff and then went back to google maps and was working. Prior to that it would sit at the blue startup of google maps and spinning circle.

Same problem here, started yesterday afternoon. Have restarted the MMI but no good. Pleased it's not just me!

Cheers - hopefully it will be resolved/will check when I get home as to state of play - I did check the weather this morning via connected services - but then left the car at the station car park to goto work.

Will check what/if my version of MMI has been updated (not sure if they do over the air updates for example) and if still same issue will ping Audi Support and see what they have to say.

Salty - how did you restart the MMI out of interest ?

cheers,

seyre

Hey Seyre, push the top two silver buttons upwards (nav and radio I think) then press down the main round button for a couple of seconds and release.

Last two days mines been playing up.
Yesterday morning it had Google Maps but the terrain was all blurry. One the way home it was fine at first but then went to the screen showing the planet earth image.
Today it had switched to the default maps and had to change it back to Google manually.

I had to do this (after asking on here) last week when my maps completely froze on screen - worked a treat first time.

I'm sure it's purely coincidental - but out of 4 cars with a similar issue 3 are Navarre Blue .......

Salty - you're not Navarro blue too are you ?

Nope, unfortunately it also affects Daytona Grey

I am also Navarra blue. Never had this problem. I just have the nav set to use google maps. Sometimes it takes a while to establish a connection, occasionally the connection fails completely (if no mobile reception) but the MMI displays the built in maps in the interim so there is no loading screen or picture of google earth.

Hi all - ok sat in the car with the AC blasting away as says it's still 32c outside.

So followed saltys' instructions to reboot the MMI. (press Nav/Map and Radio silver buttons upwards and at same time press down on the dial/touchpad)

And now have Google maps back - did seem to still take longer to startup than normal - but will see if that's if it's just the fact it's lost any cached images etc)

The MMI data connectivity here is pretty good (4 bars on the signal meter vs only 2 I get on the phone)

But appreciate it still could be a server/client issue.

Will keep an eye on it and report back

Problem back for me, it worked perfectly yesterday, today Google Earth refused to load up.

Done it 3 times to me now. It shows Google Earth view to start with and then it randomly goes off and I get to look at the Audi Google Earth loading screen for the rest of the journey home.
The Google Earth view takes ages to load next time I get in the car, but then it works ok.

Mine's Daytona grey, but I think I've contracted Navarravirus.

This happened to me yesterday for the first time in 9 months. Google maps started normally but 10 minutes into the drive the google earth screen was showing. It took about 5 minutes to go back to normal. My assumption, which may be incorrect, is that the car had some cached maps but further into my drive the MMI called for further google map data and was unable to contact the server (probably due to no mobile signal).

There is an update file - 3 packets - that you'll need to down load. Go to system update and it does it for you.

Mine has been rubbish for the last couple of days and it took 8 minutes to boot up google maps this morning following the update.

But lunchtime it was back to normal.

Can detect slightly better picture res on Google Maps now tho.

I take it all back!!

It's been sitting on the Google Earth start screen for over 30 minutes.

Most worryingly, without a reboot, you can't actually use sat nav at all.

Someone at Audi needs to get on this as it's apparently a network / software issue.

Took the opportunity to call my Audi service people who said 'reboot' and 'we don't know of anything systemic'.

Asked them to Google it and get on here.

Mines just locked up again - defo something odd happening and I don't think it's a signal/reception issue.

Rebooted and sat on in-built maps with google loading task bar on the bottom.

I had it happen to me the other day as well for the first time. I managed to get it back on to the standard map view though, eventually it did decide to open Google Earth.

Oh well; just plug an android phone in and use Android Auto :p

So this may be a bug on Google or Audi's side being serious. It can happen. I would submit it to Google anyway; can't hurt.

I'm glad I've seen this thread I was going to start another one before coming across this.

It effects Ara Blue too! Experiencing the exact same problem as above, had my car for about a month now and Google Earth maps would load pretty much instantly every time I started the car but now this week it's been taking my whole journey to work (about 20 mins) before it loads up. While it's been playing up I've just been reverting to the normal default maps and flicking back to google earth in the options to see if it loads up.

Don't think it's an issue to do with the catche as usually travel the same route, just with nav on the main screen in the background as my music etc is on my VC.

Hopefully it'll sort itself soon or we find a fix!

I'm having the same problem with mine recently. Very annoying.

Is everyone with this issue using the built-in SIM, or a user-supplied one? Built-in for me.

Built in sim for me got Tech Pack Advanced which I think gives 3 years data on the inbuilt sim may be wrong on that though

I'm wondering if it's a connectivity issue with it, data throttling or something.

This is also affecting the A4s with tech pack over in the B9 forum. Lots of similar complaints of Google maps loading issues over the past few weeks.

Definitely sounding like an Audi/Google issue!

Glad it's not just me and that this is affecting a lot of people with the VC and Tech Pack. Whoever is at fault (Audi, Google etc) I hope they realise the numbers affected and sort it out.

I've taken screenshots of both the pop up screen status (showing 4 bars of signal strength for the built in sim) and the VC screen which with google maps was like a bad 80's pop video (tearing/smearing of the basic map)

Audi need to check this with whomever they are using as the service provider.

I don't see it being an issue at Googles end (I'm sure we'd have all heard if google had an outage). So either the Service Provider/or the software in the car itself.

Either way we're paying for something which is unreliable at best.

+1 same issues for me over last 2 weeks.

I've had no issue whatsoever and I'm using a SIM of my own - so the embedded solution may be the problem!

Rather than paying for an extra SIM card could I connect it to my iPhone as a wifi hotspot as I've got 20GB a month allowance and usually have about 5-10GB free every month?

Might be able to work out whether the embedded sim is the problem then as well

I'm not sure if this is possible to be fair.

I paid £30 for a Three UK data SIM with 12GB of data on it - hoping that will last me ~12 months

Don't think it will. I was using my own SIM in the car for the first couple of months and it was using huge amounts of data - much more than the PFL car (which never had any connectivity issues). That's the point I switched to using the built-in SIM instead.

Oddly mine doesn't appear to be using that much, but will check again later today!

Built in for me.
Mine's been doing it all week intermitantly.
Might Tweet Audi CS UK saying it's affecting a considerable number of owners on here.

Mine's also playing up.
Its been like this for approx. a week, so much so that I've given up and reverted to just the traffic map.

Mine was still stuck on the Google Earth screen this morning, so have reverted to Normal maps in order to regain functionality.

Tech Pack here too - so should have 3 years worth of connectivity.

Tweeting Audi CS would be a good idea if someone had a Twitter Account? (i don't)

I've just tweeted them, then saw a few others have done the same. Only response so far from Audi is to ask for the VIN numbers.
