Hey,

I know everyones obvious first answer will be "go buy a 1.8t" but i've done a lot of work on this 1.6 and i haven't seen many in the same colour near me (dolphin grey)

I'm thinking about dropping a 1.8T preferably the 225 tt/S3 lump, (may as well do a full measure eh?)

I'd like to know what i'd need on top of the following

I've already got coilovers and have polybushed most of the chassis minus the rear arm, thats just got new stock bushes, stiff enough anyway.

Engine
Clutch
Gearbox
Clocks?
ECU
Loom
Exhaust
Hubs? (seen around that they may be slightly different)
Brakes/disks
Time, plenty of time.

I've got a mechanic close by that won't leave me homeless by doing all this too, so thats decent...

Any wisdom anyone can pass on is greatly appreciated.

Probably worth noting that it's SORN as of 1st, bought an RX8 haha.
so taking my time to get parts isn't an issue.
Still fully expecting to get torn apart and told to get a 1.8t or an S3 haha

Just buy a s3 ha
Would you not also need a s3 fuel pump

Ohhh, good shout!
Knew there'd be stuff I missed, probably go front mount.

Can you think of anything else that isn't on the list?

Haha, I'd imagine so, doubt the 1.6 is anywhere near the output

Starter motor aswell?

Yeah there's a few little things that I know I need that I haven't listed, injectors etc I'm just counting that as "engine"

Best way would be buying a written off S3 I'm guessing, minus the Quattro, was there a 225 1.8t fwd?

Could get a 180 to make it easier I guess?

Tt's are cheaper than a s3

Thought about that, but there'd probably be a few things that wouldn't fit I'm guessing, exhaust/clocks and maybe ECU wouldn't be the same?

After buying and s3 and painting it I'd have spent a fair bit more I'd imagine?

Possible... Could also consider rebuilding your engine and getting a different turbo?

Ah, missed that!

Personally, i would elect to buy a 1.8t as a base, but then again, to each their own!

I think it may be the way to go! Just put my polybushed parts on it like wheels, coilovers etc.

Other option is I leave it as is, and put the money towards a 1UZ-FE V8 for my RX8 haha

Personally I would just buy an s3 can pick them up cheap enough or put the money in your Mazda converting the 1.6 just seems like throwing money away to me

Yeah it doesn't seem worth it just to keep a colour!

Just needed to hear more people say it haha.

Probably go with the 1.8t option and do work on it as I go along, swap the polybushed bits etc.
