Hi guys, now moved to Q2 but wondered if anyone has had issues with Pre sense.Whilst negotiating a right hand bend with cars parked on the left, the brakes activated without any prior warning by ding or dash warning. As i have not had this system before it scared me ****less.Just glad there was nothing behind as they would have ploughed into the back.

Not an Audi, but an acquaintance had a similar issue with a Mazda 6, he did end up with someone ploughing into the back of him when the car decided that the gap between a parked car on his side of the road and a bus in the other lane was too small to negotiate (it wasn't, by a long shot).

Have to say, I really REALLY dislike the idea of the car overriding what I'm doing, so won't be speccing/buying a vehicle with these kinds of systems until they are at the very least a good few generations old and a fair bit more sophisticated than the current systems on the market.

I have pre-sense on my S3, I must say it's been pretty good. I've had it pop the brakes on once or twice, but it has saved my bacon on one of those occasions. I thought the car in front had pulled away at the round about when i was looking right, it did and then it didn't... I went to go and the car just stopped me. I get pre-sense flash up sometimes on my road near home, it sometimes thinks one of the bollards is a person and beeps at me... but depends on my speed and how late i leave it to turn.

Never had any of these nanny systems, but it's never over-ridden my control to the point that I felt unsafe. It's just an extra layer of protection imo, same as lane assist (which i hate and don't have) and ACC (which i love).

Just turn down the sensitivity in the mmi car settings mine is barely noticable now. You can only turn it off for one session as it turns back on again when the car is restarted.

I have a Volvo V40 and it came as standard with what Volvo call city safe, which I think is the same kind of thing. It has a habit of slamming on the brakes if I pull forwards into a particular space in my office. I think the branches in front of the space set it off. Kind of embarrassing when it happens...

Agree with cuke2's remarks. I've got mine turned down to the least sensitive setting and it flashes up a warning on the DIS occasionally, but no unexpected braking as yet. I've never been able to see what has triggered it on the odd occasion it has gone off.

Some examples posted here of nanny intrusion are a reason I did not order it on my S3. I prefer to be in control especially when the roads are icy, snow covered etc. and slamming the brakes on in those conditions is not a good idea. I know that most of these nanny systems can be adjusted or turned off but until better logic control is introduced e.g. weather, brake modulation via a better ABS I will give them a miss and that includes lane departure control as I have seen it misused....texting and yes reading a book once as their cars wander about within their lanes.

Are we talking about Pre-Sense Basic or Pre-Sense Front? Because I have Pre-Sense Front and there is no option to change to Late. I can switch it off under Driver Assist>Pre-Sense>System or I can switch off Driver Assist>Pre Sense>Early Warning but that is the limit of my options. Am I missing something here?

On mine the options under driver assists include turning off the pre sense completely (only lasts till you restart the car) or ticking the box for EARLY,MEDIUM OR LATE. Am now trying mine on late to see what happens.

I like it, saved my *** once on the autobahn in Germany. Heavy heavy rain with almost no visilibity so everyone was just doing 40-50 km/h and suddenly the car just starts fully breaking while scaring the **** out of me, and then a stopped car without the break lights on suddenly appears right in front of me. Apparently the heavy rain had formed a pool in a matter of minutes so everyone had stopped for that.

Pre sense was the reason i had to get rid of my PFL S3 saloon, drove me absolutely nuts with its warnings about nothing. Was such a shame as the ACC was great. Was told by Audi that it was just the characteristics of the system. They said it can be quite sensitive and could even flash up warnings with reflections on wet roads. I hope they've made a few changes though as it now has pedestrian recognotion.

Si :)

I absolutely feel if you drive lots this is a must or are in a busy city like london. So many people who don't brake or break too late. Or people walking out without looking and bikes.

For me this is a must. I can say on my R it saved me from quite a few rear end accidents in london.

Mines got pre sense front.

But I think you said that this was on a Q2? Could other owners of A3/S3 models (both PFL and FL) please tell me what settings they have for Pre-Sense Front. As already stated in my earlier my PFL A3 has Pre-Sense System and Early Warning as the only 2 options. I'd like to know if other PFL owners have more settings?

On or off on my PFL, but had to be turned off every engine start. There may have been a comfort/dynamic but i can't remember for sure.

The whole point of my original post was to see if other pre senses were misbehaving ie.is there a common fault developing.thanks.

I know on my Golf R that it does suggest braking sometimes when there is no need. I just ignore it and press the accelerator.

I expect my S3 will do the same - they are inclined to get false positives because that's the nature of things. You can't predict exactly when someone or a car will pull out. Sometimes the sensors will get confused. It happens.

I accept the occasional beep and just ignore it.

But it's important to make sure if you get that warning you do press the gas pedal if it's a false alert or the car may stop by itself.
