Are those the files that Audi Connect gives you as a download? I think you need to launch the files on your PC/Mac and it runs using java. This then connects to your Audi Connect and the download starts. Takes hours though and requires a big SD card (22Gig download). Apologies if this is not what you area asking.

Acording to my computer the update is not that large???

Yes tech pack high comes with 5 consecutive updates you cannot pick and choose which ones you have or skip one. The updates are every 6 months and generally come out in May and November.

As your car is late September the updates would have been as follows :-

Nov 14
May 15
Nov 15
May 16
Nov 16

Final update 2 years 2 months old.

Hope this helps.

If it has allowed you to download the map from my.audi then maybe it’s an issue with your memory card.

Can you post file size usage of SD card and a screen shot of the files on the memory card root ?

Remember my.audi first downloads a .jnlp file a Java web start applet which you need Java installed to download the complete map files.

Yip downloaded map and it's on my computer format 2xsd cards still nothing highlights on mmi tried USB still nothing. Audi seem to not no what they are doing surely if it's expired then there would be no download??? You would think sd cards are ok as I can put music on jukebox with sd2 andsd2 ????? I'm lost

I agree, If the download is available then that suggests you have remaining updates available.

If you don’t have a download available but aquire it from a third party (or a mate LoL) then try the update in the car you will get a licence expired message or words to that effect.

As you don’t have that either the way you are trying to update the maps in the car is not correct or there’s an issue with the downloaded files. Im away from my car at the mo so we need to roll back a little.

What maps did you download UK or complete Europe ?

Download to a folder first - make a folder on your desktop called audi maps and point the audi map download to that folder after double clicking the jnlp file and having entered your login details.

SD card should be formatted FAT 32. Reformat to wipe contents then drag contents from your audi map folder onto the SD card. An image of what’s on your SD card at this point would be useful so I can compare with mine.

Also what is the step by step button by button process you are trying to upload the new maps ?

I use a 32Gb SD card and have previously uploaded using either SD card slot.

Ok so I did a folder called Audi maps then downloaded it .dragged downloaded to formatted sd card (fat32) downloaded complete package says 8kb then checked card card loaded. Went to car mmi update. Went to system update clicked it comes up with sd1. Sd2. DVD. USB have tried to slots 1 and 2 does not highlight. Where or when does you get login details???

Can you open SD card on computer and take a screenshot or photo of the files on it and I’ll do the same in the morning. 8kb is too small should be 2Gb for UK only and around 21Gb for full Euro maps so I suspect you’re missing Java from Your Computer. Is the download a single file with .jnlp file type extension? If so install Java if you do not have it, double click the downloaded file and follow the instructions on screen.

Guys, having read a lot about this I am also struggling to update via SD card

I have downloaded the updates (about 11 Gig), with the java downloader and put on a 32GB SD card. but when inserting in the car and going to the menu for software update, it just doesn't seem to even see the card (also tried boith slots and USB, the same)
I am eligible for the download (car is 8 months old)

What should I try?

Upload 2017 8 4 18 23 18

and inside the NavDB file is this:

Upload 2017 8 4 18 24 1

If I recall you need to run the java programme on your PC which then extracts the Audi update stuff onto your SD card. You then insert the card into the MMI.

Exactly... this I have done. But when inserted into SD1 for example. It remains greyed out and nothing happens. You can't select it...

Errh I'm lost then. The only thing I can think is to run the exe file when the downloaded file is on the SD card while it is connected to your PC. I suspect that something hasn't been copied onto the SD card. Sorry I can't help any more but I'm pretty clueless on these matters. All I know is when I tried it it stumped me until I download the latest version of Java and ran it on the downloaded file after I'd copied from my PC onto the SD card

Ok thanks. I'll try it again, see what happens

Sorted. What a crappy system.

Download took 3 hours - you have to sit and watch it download as it stops from time to time, saying it needs username and password again.

It took 20 minutes to get the download to start because it kept saying the target drive did not have enough space - target drive had 2.7 TB free...!!!

Anyway. You just need to persevere with a very poor update system and finally it worked.

Not sure I'll bother next time though!

The MMI on my car notified me today that a map update was available for UK/Ireland and did I want to download it.
I said yes and I just seemed to update itself.

I have a 30GB data package on my phone so wasn't concerned about the data usage but when I checked the phone later it hadn't used any of my data so must have used the internal SIM.

LHD totally agree about the crappy system. The download speed initially to get the update and the subsequent lack of any user interface is dreadful. Only thing is that, particularly when driving abroad, road changes are quite common. The only other option is to buy the damn thing from audi at some ridiculous price. But at least you know what to do next time.

I also got the Map update option on the MMI. Anyone know how long it takes to update on the internal sim? I guess I cant switch the car off once its being downloaded or updated?

Not long as it only updates the maps for your area, not all of europe, and yes you can turn the ignition off mid download as it'll just resume again...

Cuke2u, Is there any way to do a full Europe download direct to MMI via internal sim? I regularly go across to Europe from UK. I don't particularly want outdated maps in a strange country.
