Facelift First RS 3 Saloon to NZ buyer?

Coming from a Renault sport clio l think he'll be over the moon lol

He didn't seem too happy in that video but he just made another where he talks about how much he likes it. His complaints were the standard stuff, the key doesn't look special enough, interior is too similar to A3, steering lacks feel and he's concerned about the S-tronic reliability compared to the ZF gearbox.

I'm wondering if the manual seats in the RS 3 (at least for the US) will improve headroom over the A3/S3. With a helmet on at the track, there's not much room for someone about 6 feet tall in a S3.
If its anything to go by....I have sat in A5 with and without panoroof and the difference in headroom was a good couple of inches....I'm banking on supersports seats being lower plus no panoroof being the best option for tall people and/or people who like to wear helmets

Video was weird. I was just watching for exhaust notes. Ultimately, I felt like he chose the car as a backup plan. Seriously, I get it, some people care about the key fob, but that's your main concern? We should all be so lucky. I will send you an o-ring to prevent you from stabbing yourself with the switchblade key!

The pano is a worry, I hadn't considered that versus the A3 too. We need one of the NZ dudes to find someone 6 foot and give them a helmet and sit it in there. If this thing is helmet unfriendly, I'm just going to use that as an excuse to make my R a track only car and rip out the interior, weld in a bar...

This is his latest video. He admits he does actually love the car, I think he got a lot of comments about it. It was a backup plan/compromise for him as he wanted an S5 but in Australia they are more expensive than RS3 by quite a bit. I'm glad he showed the boot too, looks similar to the S3 saloon boot but I think the floor has been raised. Sucks if its like that in the UK, I wanted it to be at least as big as the S3 sportback boot.

Can some one tell me if the key is a flip key ? the one video when Dan picks up his new RS3 the car came withe a flip key that's from like 2002 ? Hope it's a nicer key then a flip key

Battery is in the boot

Flip key is standard, which for me is perfect considering all the security issues with key-less entry etc.

I don't mind the flip key but I do agree that there should be a special one for the RS3 (and S3 too).

Haha yeah it does. I actually can't remember if the S3 key has anything written on it. The RS3 saloon got a great review in this video. He says the chassis finally lives up to the engine now.

Its strange the S5 is more expensive than an RS3 in NZ.

The RS3 is faster, more powerful and has everything the S5 has except a head up display... so other than the design (which I personally think is not quite right) choosing the RS3 should be a no brainier.

Even in the UK the S5 is more expensive. Its RRP is £47,875. We know from the other thread that RS3 saloon is £45250 and the sportback is £44300.

S5 is bigger car by far than RS3, it's class above. S5 is based on the A4 platform with longitudinal engines & real quattro, where RS3 is based on A3 & haldex.

So not just speed & power, but different car segment alltogether.

And the RS3 Saloon boot should exactly match the S3 saloon boot. A3 saloon, front wheel drive versions have bigger boots, cause it's the awd haldex system that eats space & requires raised floor.

That's what I was hoping but Jassy says it has the battery in the boot plus the detailing ara blue RS3 Saloon video does show the floor raised higher than an S3 saloon.

Ok, I stand corrected! The RS3 has smaller boot. The S3 saloon has 390 litres where the RS3 saloon is listed at 315 litres.

That's a damn small boot!

The RS3 sportback has 335 litres. And actually the TTRS has about the same boot size as RS3 saloon! The TTRS is rated at 305 litres.

For the odd occasion you might need more space just put the back seats down.

It's just strange that the RS3 Saloon has a smaller boot than the RS3 Sportback when the S3 Saloon has a bigger boot than the S3 Sportback.

S5 is still an S model though - souped up (albeit more desirable) S Line. Poor mans RS5.
RS3 holds that edge IMO... just that bit more special. RS v S, generally, there is no contest.

RS has it's special meaning & value, but you can't and shouldn't expect a "bahnstormer" to be cheaper than a "hot hatch".

Two very different cars, where one is a driving machine and the other is a family gran turismo kind of cruiser with a sporty feel.

Cheaper no, but a class above? I don't think so...
The RS5 is the bahnstormer IMO! S5 is a nice car but just not special enough in my eyes.

Some more pics of Black Pack Daytona Grey RS3 Saloon which is the colour I'm thinking of going for:

I'm also tempted by this, worried I will get bored/disappointed of Nardo over time. Buy Daytona will slip under the radar like my Nano Grey S3.... an RS shouldn't be understated.

That was my original colour Daytona but thought made car look like all other Audi's and wanted something to make the RS3 stand out!! So went with Nardo Grey and getting standard wheels painted gloss black

I see a Nardo Grey RS3 PFL a lot with black pack and the colour isn't for me, saw one today and the guy's car is for sale on autotrader. I've test drove one too, great car and it does look good in some lighting conditions but not so much in others. I know what you mean with Daytona, if only Audi did the Golf GTI/GTD Carbon Steel Grey, I think that'd look good.

I'm playing with the idea of Panther black.. red would be the preferred choice, but it's quite common for A3 saloons here. Ara Blue etc are out since swimbo doesn't like them.

Nardo is not for me. Daytona would be option, but it's pretty common as well.

Yeah its pretty hard to find something that isn't common without paying a lot. Like a Floret Silver black pack RS3 is uncommon for RS3's but for the whole A3 range it's common.

I might have just changed my mind about Nardo

Was out for a walk down town and saw a RS6 Avant pass by in Nardo grey. Pictures and videos doesn't do justice for the color!

I must be the only person who thinks nardo grey looks s**t, such a boring flat colour and like white the car looks like they forget to paint it. Nardo looks like a primer

I quite like the red but I have a red s3 so may go for ara blue - not sure whether to go for alu or black packs and even more so whether to go saloon or hatchback; i may go for saloon in ara blue alu pack like the one in the aussie vid, but with a pano roof and red calipers

The only cars that look good in red are Ferrari's.

Nardo is a marmite colour. Personally I love it with the black pack. It could age badly, though. Time will tell. For those with lots of money, look at Nimbus grey. Similar to Nardo and looks great IMO.

Ara blue is a boring colour, too washed out looking and not as nice as Sepang.

White is rapidly going out of fashion.

Black is timeless, classy and sporty all in one. It perhaps doesn't show off the cars lines too well, however. Photographers hate black cars.

Silver is very understated. This could be a good or bad thing. Again, personally I quite like it.

In summary, all colours have good or bad points. It's all personal taste. Hopefully they'll be advancements in paint technology where at a push of a button you can change the exterior colour of your car, as well as the interior lights!

I already have a black car so don't think I'll go the same. Would've liked a white sportback but going saloon so that's not an option either. Nimbus Grey sounds interesting, looks like JimboS3 had PFL one with black pack - http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/my-rs.257778/. Looks like a darker Nardo to me. I prefer Daytona over it but there's now another S3 on my street which is a Daytona Saloon with Black Pack. Looks good but don't want something to similar (He also seems to like looking at my Mythos Black S3). I guess that only leaves Floret Silver, I think with Black pack and red brakes it could look good.

That Nimbus grey car (exact one) has been for sale for months and months, it's on eBay.

They're asking a bit too much for it. But it seemed like Jimbo looked after it well although it's missing the tech pack which hurts resale. Lovely colour though.
