Hi,

Picked up the wife new (to us) 2010 A3 hatchback today and love it. I have a couple of questions though...

Rear wash wipe seems to have a mind of its own, stopping halfway up the screen, not parking itself. Anyone know the solution to the problem?

Also, the car has electric folding mirrors, can I get these 'switched on' to flod/unold as the car is locked and unlocked??... I looked in the convenience menu on the display but couldn't see anything in there.

Thank you for any advice.

Yeah new rear wiper motor needed

Thank you. Any recommendations to which one or just get one from Audi?

Also is it easy enough to change?

Well known problem across the whole VAG range - water down central shaft leaks into motor causing erratic behaviour. OE motor (and most replacements) made by Valeo. One ebay retailer told me they sell hundreds pa. Relatively simple job - remove two screws by tailgate handle and tug off trim (held in place by metal, arrow-shaped prongs). Motor held by 2 or 3 10mm nuts, plus disconnect motor plug and water pipe. Wiper puller needed to pull off the wiper.

As has already been said, the rear wiper is a known design flaw and affects loads of other VW and Audi models too, my old A4 Avant went through 2 motors in 10 years of ownership and I can virtually guarantee that each day on my way to work I will see at least 1 VAG group car with a rear wiper arm parked at a very sick-looking angle!
Someone on this website posted information that the Bosch-brand rear wiper motors are much less susceptible to going wrong than the factory-fitted Valeo ones but I cannot comment on that as I have only ever fitted Valeo OEM ones to my cars.
Whatever you do, don't fit a no-name motor as they're really meant to be rubbish and don't pay more for a Genuine Audi item in a fancy box, inside it'll be the same Spanish-made Valeo Service Replacement motor that you can buy from Amazon for around £60.

Mirrors. It's a no I am afraid. Folded in with the control inside the car only. I think one popular modder did it on here but loads of work and not really worth the pain and effort.

Thank you for the replies and I'll get one ordered up from Amazon. Thats a real bummer regarding the mirrors, you would of thought going to all that trouble of fitting motors in the mirrors, it would of made sense to include the ability to fold them when they lock.

Agreed. They obviously listened on the 8v as they fold and unfold on lock and unlock as well as drop the glass on reversing

Only if you pay the extra option otherwise they are the same as the 8P

I have both an 8p and 8v. Neither came as standard with folding mirrors. I specified this on both as an option. 8p will only fold with the switch. 8v auto folds in with lock/unlock.

I did not specify anything on the 8v over and above the standard option of folding mirrors. Janice why I said they must have listened with the 8v

I have to say that despite having folding mirrors on my 8P I more often than not don't use them!
In cramped parking spaces where doors are more likely to be bumped against your own vehicle I prefer to leave the mirrors extended, I'd rather have other car doors bump the casings of my mirror than possibly hit my door paintwork!
It's only when I am forced to park where there is a real risk of a passing vehicle hitting my extended mirrors that I retract them.
In this regard, the later 8V system isn't necessarily better IMHO......
