Long story short, low on fuel 25miles left put £5.00 worth of petrol into my diesel 2009 A4 diesel before realising, then filled it to the brim £63 worth of diesel. Seems fine after 20 mile run home. What's the chances I got off with it?

Looking back I should have drained it, but I panicked at the time and didn't think so filled it.

My laddie put a full tank of petrol in the Golf, didn't realise until it conked out about 3 miles later! Had it drained and everything is OK. The 'drainer' told me that petrol is a dry fuel and can really screw up the fuel pump, which needs diesel for lubrication. With such a small amount of petrol I reckon you'll be fine, maybe keep topping it off every 100 miles or so for a while just to get it diluted down as much as you can.

I believe that Petrol floats on top of Diesel so there might be a risk if the tank get's low

Did exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Put about 7 litres in a thought this fuel smells a bit funny. Brimmed the tank with diesel. Done around 100 miles and re filled. Have covered around 400 miles with no issues.

Could be worse; after telling my dad NOT to EVER fill my car up with fuel (as I'm a snob and only use premium stuff) he puts some cheap Asda petrol in my diesel then tops this off with cheap diesel to try sort it out... now this wouldn't be so bad if he told me he did this as the car was only starting on occasion after I got it back (maybe 1/3 times) so I took it for a service (stressing to them that my car is failing to start despite being one of the most reliable units with all the unreliable bits taken off) and the bloke gave me the fuel filter saying "smell this, think we've found your problem" to which my dad got a very angry phone call. Did something similar with my Starlet GT Turbo, I ask what this scratch is that's developed from the front wing all the way to the rear and he has "no clue", then a few months later he blurts out the strimmer "might" of had some issues around my car :blahblah1: sorry for the essay it's just stuff like this really strikes a chord with me.

So yeah to get back on topic I'd say your car should be fine mate, mine probably had £20 worth of petrol in with about £30 worth of diesel (knowing my dad, truth is I'll never know but guarantee the mix wasn't £5/£63).

The garage also suggested using Forte diesel treatment, I know allot of people swing one way or the other when it comes to using premium fuel and/or additives but it definitely quietened things down. Keep brimming the tank too as others have suggested.

Edit: also as others have suggested change the fuel filter! That was probably the main thing that sussed mine.
