Does anybody have any additional security on their A6 (steering locks, trackers etc) ? I'm wondering if it's necessary and if so what the best option would be?

Yup - I bought gap insurance!!!!!

If they want it they'll get it, is how I look at it.

I suppose the only win with one of the devices mentioned above is that, if there were 2 nickable cars side by side, they may be a chance the scumbag will choose the path of least resistance.

Good call on a the iPhone though!!! I've often thought about doing that with the wife, just to check she's def at the playgroup and not in John Lewis!!!!

Only problem with this is you need to remember to keep the phone charged and iPhone batteries are not known for their longevity....... :(
I've not checked but I thought there was a charging port in the boot somewhere.

There is plenty of 12v plugs in my allroad. You can always add another hidden behind trim/seats. Keep it plugged in and it charges while you drive send a text once a month to keep sim active

I'd go for a billy basic phone if you are going to do such a thing. Pick one that can pick up signal easily. Also pick a network with decent coverage

I think a hidden iPhone would struggle to pick up decent signal and therefore be difficult to track

Personally if someone is going to steal it, then let them take it. Much easier to replace a car than yourself or a family member :)

Better and cheaper to make sure your insurance is as comprehensive as possible

Can I just point out that I was referring to John Lewis - the department store as opposed to say John Lewis, a neighbour......!

just having a look at this myself for the new car... very smart idea. Around the same price as an after market alarm too

where do I find the forum discount code?

The ad is at the top of the home page. The discount code is AUDISNX which must be used at checkout.

Wouldnt' it be cheaper to just pull the OBD port fuse out? You can't access the fuses unless you can open the door.

Remove the fuse for your OBD port unless you need to use it.
Simple and effective

Other option is disconect orginal OBD2 plug buy two of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-16-P...224344&hash=item488edfcd7f:g:SNkAAOSw-W5Uzxvp and place the plug behind the cover on the side of the fuse box at end of dash.

Then use the other extension you bought from ebay and place that connector in the place of the orginal you took away.
That way the theives will be meesing about for 5-10 minutes not knowing thew dummy OBD2 port isnt attached to anything and that the live and orginal connector ( with ext atatched) is in place with the plug behind the cover on the side of the fuse box at end of dash.

Ive been planning on doing this for a while just havent had time.

The fuse has limited use, these scum bags use devices that are self powered. Best options is a dummy odbc or disable the can-bus wires by a switch.

However I would rather they just take the car then put my family at risk from them breaking into the house and grabing the keys after failing with the ODBC port.

If theres no fuse present the port wont work at all i thought? it's actually dead...

Yes it will work, if you supplied 12v to the + terminal then the port (device using it) is alive again. There is no electronics in the ODBC port it's just a bit of plastic with a few wires going into it, the main wires you want to protect are the can high/low diagnostic bus wires going to the can-gateway.
