My S5 is the 3rd Audi S car I've had and I've got the obligatory tube of Autosol and a rag in the boot to clean off the 'soot' from, particularly, the 2 inside exhaust pipes.
Well this week the inside left pipe has remained clean and the drivers side inside is twice as mucky as normal.
Sounds to me like there's a baffle problem in the left silencer.
Any thoughts? Can't say I notice any change in the way the car goes.

Look at the picture in the S4 exhaust valve tweak thread, the valve locations will probably explain the reason for your findings, I would say it's normal depending on how the flaps have been operating.

That's totally normal and the way it's designed to be as that inside drivers side pipe is the only one that operates at cold start and at low revs.

This is why a lot of us have removed the connectors on the valves to open them permenantly. You end up with four minimally sooty exhaust tips rather than one very sooty one!

It also makes the car sound much better at low revs and start up.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Clearly the quad pipe setup is now different to how it was on my TTS. I had a head gasket go on that and there was equal gas output from both inner pipes on tickover but an additional plume of steam from the LH inner pipe.
