Hi there, just discovered Audi Sport . . . I've had an A5 Cab for 4 years and never knew this place existed!! So - hello.

After 4 years of the truly fabulous A5 Cab, I've just ordered / upgraded to a new 2017/18 S5 Cabriolet, I just now need to choose a colour within the next week or so.

When I first got the A5, I really wanted it in Sepang Blue but it wasn't an option or available at the time (or I couldn't afford it - I forget) so ended up with Scuba Blue. Now with the new S5, I'm torn between:

Ara Blue: the kind of bright and no hiding away (but lovely) Ara blue (which is an option - not standard),
Navarra Blue: the standard Navarra blue, great when the sun hits it but like Scuba Blue that I have now - somewhat dark without the sun,
Mystic Blue: the Mystic Blue (which has tinges of purple), really lovely when the light hits it and a little different, but again very dark out of the sun again a non-standard option.
Sepang (pearl): or indeed - Sepang, albeit it's been around a while (non standard - an option).

Photos attached below: S5 in Ara blue (amazing), the standard Navarra blue (though not on a cabriolet) and the Mystic blue on a shiny showroom R8.

I'm 99% convinced about the Ara blue as it looks stunning on the S5 Cab. It'll be getting a proper ceramic detailing once new to keep it shiny as possible regardless of the colour, but would welcome any other opinions on this somewhat subjective matter, I realise no amount of forum debate is really going to 'solve' the decision, but I'd be interested in others' views on the sportier Ara versus more corporate / reserved darker blues. All fabulous in their own ways.

Or indeed any other blues. It's got to be blue!!

Thanks lots,

Will.

Having just taken delivery of my S5 in Navarra, its a bit dark meaning its a devil to polish, taken me 2 days to do a decent job of the roof and bonnet. I ordered white originally but the S5 doesn't have any black contrasting trim or wheels like on the RS I had before.
I wasn't aware there are any other blues available when I ordered mine, if they are special colours the extra cost will be £2-3k and could delay production. If they offered Sepang still I'd have gone with that, a classy colour.

Thanks Chris. (Assuming you're in the UK) the only stock blue the S5 is available in is indeed the Navarra blue, which I do like. All other blues are options at £2,400 and, yes, extend the build by a few weeks. The price is a bit dull (!), the time extension I can live with. Pics of your new S5 and all that polishing would be good...!

Sepang is great, Ara is sparklier / newer, and does some interesting things in different light (I know Sepang does too - but still)

Hi Will, As I tend not to keep my cars more than 2 yrs I wanted to keep my spec. as low as poss. as they don't ay you a cent more on trade in. I must say I'm a bit disappointed with Navarra, it's very dark and has no purple or pearl look, but it suits the car better than white. The dealer reckoned it was brighter than the blue you see every other Audi in but I can't see it, yet. The interior is what does it for me, Ive gone for grey seats and trim and the carbon dash is a must have option over that horrible satin metal that is standard. I'll take some snaps when the light is right.

@WillLondon welcome to audi-sport.net. Ara is really nice, Navarro is nice, pretty much like the scuba blue in that it changes in different light. Sepang is good looking colour in all chassis's. I do like estoril blue, not sure if it's available even as an option now. Hope you enjoy the forum. :)

Thanks @ChrisH370 , Navarra does (from the one I've driven) look truly fabulous under the sun so I wouldn't be disheartened yet (I am still considering it) - some real deep (brighter) blues in there. But otherwise is dark I agree. And I currently have Scuba Blue (see profile photo) so probably fancy a change from dark blue. But that Mystic Blue is pretty impressive. Dark as it is.

As for the interior . . . I ummed and ahh-d about the interior. I actually wanted white / cream leather, and spoke to Audi about a custom interior . . . they quoted me £7K and 8 months for that!!!! I declined. I've decided to go for the black leather interior, mainly as it's a cab' and will match the black fabric roof. And of the two (black and grey - I am ignoring the red!) I quite like the white stitching on the black seats.

See what you think of Navarra with some sunshine, it is pretty.

Thanks @Sandra - I think Navarra has a lot more character than scuba blue, but Ara is indeed lovely! I love Sepang too, but Ara is somewhat cherrier.

My next car will be ara.

Value choice : Navarra

Best colour : Ara

I think Ara suits the cab very well from the few pics I've seen on the internet and if the slight delay and increased cost isn't a problem, go Ara.

Thanks @Buck , the delay is ok, the extra cost is . . . well . . . very 'Audi'!

Agree. Although I'd struggle to justify the cost myself especially when Navarra is still a great colour.

@Buck true - though I compromised on the last car's colour, and ideally I'd like a cream interior too, so the Ara paint may be the mini-compromise! And to be honest - justifying an S5 at all is - well - a little subjective as it is!!

I know what you mean!

Are you not tempted by the red interior? Looks awesome especially with blue.

@Buck not in the slightest. I really don't like the red at all. Ideally, I wanted the cream / white interior the car was showcased with in Geneva (see pic / video), but it's absurdly expensive as an option (£7K - see above). Mad really when you consider you can spec an entry level A5 with cream seats / interior.

Ara Blue with black it is then !!

@WillLondon - Hi & :welcome!: to Audi-Sport.Net Will !

Colours ? Me thinks you'll now find ara & navarro becoming very popular across the Audi range
Not a fan of mystic blue TBH, so the only one left is sepang blue, but some would say I'm a little biased lol

As always, just my opinion of course ... :hi:

Thanks @Bristle Hound Sepang is lovely, clearly! Mystic blue is interesting, but Ara is kind of winning me over. I suspect it will become a standard option at some point . . . probably just as I take delivery of it having opted for ara as a special option!!

If Ara blue was available on the non-S cabriolet I would have had that over the tofana white! It's stunning!

It's not really blue(!!), but a Vegas Yellow S5 cab is interesting . . . !

Interesting definitely.

Dread to think what that yellow paint does to the resale values though :whistle2:

My tofana white is almost silver in the sun because of the crystal effect - the Ara looks like it might be the same

The yellow is actually growing on me - my first ever car was a very bright orange 1971 VW Beetle! Part of me wants the yellow S5. Part of me is being grown up . . . !

Yes - Ara Blue is similarly crystalline to your tofana white. Here's a close up I took of the ara blue paint (on a TT) . . .

Blimey - current build time on a new S5 Cab: circa 4.5 months or more. With custom paint (exclusive, non-standard paint option), 6 months or more (possibly 8 months) . . . but these lead times can't be confirmed until the order is confirmed - with no ability to change one's mind once the lead time is confirmed! Hmmm......?

Dilemma!

Just order it - you're wasting time !! :tearsofjoy:

Ha ha - I have ordered it (as in - deposit paid), just need to finalise the spec (which will be done by tomorrow) - hopefully then delivered ready for some top-down driving in January!! Trip to the Alps I feel.

Whichever colour this r8 is in, go for that. It looks amazing! Is it sepang??

Have to say, the Ara Blue looks stunning on every Audi I've seen it on. I'm thinking of an S5 to replace my little Vegas Yellow TTS Roadster, RIP, but one thing putting me off is the pretty miserable colour selection for the coupe. I would have expected Ara to be in there, as well as Vegas (especially for the Cabrio). But it's just shades of darkness. The Tofana is one of my favourites, I've seen it on a couple of cabrios and it's one of the best whites available, but only available on the cabrio. After two roadsters, I'm thinking of a coupe. I hadn't seen the Vegas S5 before - it looks great in the pic above, but presumably would be another £2.5k.

@audittsquattro indeed - (assuming you're in the UK) there's no standard yellow on the S5! And the only blue available on the S5 as standard is the Navarra blue. Vegas yellow would be fun but I think the novelty would wear off pretty quickly. I guess you could always get it wrapped in yellow for a while if the mood took you??

As mentioned in my post, I've come from owning a Vegas TTS, so I'm pretty sure I'd know if the novelty would wear off. It absolutely didn't.
Though I like the colours, there does seem to be a lacklustre breadth of choice for an S model.

I agree - there's not a great selection. Just Audi protecting/controlling their image I guess.
