2018 Audi S6 -

All V6's from now on, which is the future I guess, smaller capacity, more turbos, electric motors and better economy. I imagine performance won't ultimately suffer either.

However, I bought the current outgoing S6 purely because it's a V8 and will most likely be the last of it's kind.

There's no substitute for the rumble of a V8 when you hit the start button (bar a V12!).

I'm growing to like this S6 so much that I find myself reaching for the keys of it over my SL almost all the time. The engine is the reason.

Newer Audi Models going slower ! Are we seeing the death of a classic engine in the BITDI ? Wont be the first time Audi has advanced power plants only to have gone backwards.

SQ5 BITDI 3.0 diesel dropped in favour of 3.0 litres Petrol V6

NEW SQ5 3.0 litre V6
  • 34 more BHP. Engine Power - BHP354
  • But slower at 0 to 62 mph (secs)5.4
  • Engine Torque - LBS.FT369
OLD SQ5 3.0 BITD
  • Engine Power - BHP320
  • 0 to 62 mph (secs)5
  • Engine Torque - LBS.FT479
SQ7 points towards Audi contintuing with high performance diesel.
  • Engine Power - BHP435.
  • 0 to 62 mph (secs)4.9
  • Engine Torque - LBS.FT664
Current S6 3.0 litre V6
  • Engine Power - BHP450
  • 0 to 62 mph (secs)4.6
  • Engine Torque - LBS.FT406
Current RS6 4.0 litre V6
  • Engine Power - BHP560
  • 0 to 62 mph (secs)3.9
  • Engine Torque - LBS.FT516

But future of High Performance Diesel in the A6 C8 ? What its going to be if anything at all ?

Wonder what they have planned for the A6 in that respect or maybe they will have no high performance Diesel. Maybe the long talked about TRi Turbo RS5 BITDI hybrid. project can come on line. https://www.motormag.com.au/reviews/1512/audi-rs5-tdi-concept-review
  • Engine Power - 385 bhp
  • 0-62mph (secs)4.0 sec
  • Torque lb ft 553
In the meantime my tuned A6 BITDI
    • Engine Power - 459 bhp
    • 0-62mph (secs) TBC
    • Torque lb ft 672.65

Obviously a typo, but the current S6/RS6 are 4.0 V8 not 3/4 litre V6

The article is referring to the upcoming A6/S6/RS6 C8 replacements. There will no longer be any V8's

Even the RS6 will be a V6.

Quote:-

"The more potent RS6 which should follow around 12 months after the regular A6 arrives, will use the new but smaller capacity 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6."

I'm going to guess more actuators will be coming to play if the v8 is fully dropped. Also I'm still trying to get used to the current facelift having too sharp grill edges and this looks even sharper lol

I was referring to the OP, who stated:
