So, I've booked her in for rear tints, de chrome on the trims and A6-TDI badge removal. I was talking to them about getting the front windows very lightly tinted, I know it's not legal but does anyone have any experience of doing this?

Think you can have the slightest of tint as at least 70% of light must pass through .

Not worth the hassle. I got pulled on the motorway in Manchester a few years ago. They tested my front windows and they were found to be illegal.
They phoned for a recovery truck to take me to a compound.
I then had to remove the film, take the car to an MOT station to get it verified that it was legal, then go back to the Police station and hand in the certificate.
Or at least I would have if a "shout" for an armed robbery hadn't come in and they had to rush off. I was informed in no uncertain terms that I was vey lucky, they cancelled the tow truck and let me go on my own recognisance.
I removed the film when I got home needless to say!

Agreed but if tinted windows aren't part of the MOT test why were they going to send you to an MOT station .

Because they were illegal so they wanted someone who was a VOSA qualified person to certify that the tints had been removed I guess.

OK, sufficiently concerned that it's a lot of hassle if they fall foul of the law. I'll stick to the rear ones only. Cheers

Trust me it is, I used to like having tints but after that encounter I completely changed my mind. Also, to be absolutely honest the dark tints I had were dangerous at night.
