Audi A4 1.8t Sport 1997 B5 I have tried to educate myself on the different Supension types for my car..

This is where I am at the moment the car as the standard sports suspension on it and I was thinking of putting the B12 Pro suspension Kit on it which I understand to be Eibach lowered springs 30mm all round with the Bilstien B8 Dampers on..

Or the Eibach B12 Sportline springs which will give you 45-50mm Front and 35-40mm Rear..both are about the same price as it happens..

I have heard about the better ride on both these kits compared to what I have now and that is a given..

My probelm is the look of the drop 30mm all round Pro Kit or the Lower 45-50mm Sportline kit..

My car at the moment sits quite high at around 55mm-60mm front gap and 55mm on the rear gap tyre to bodywork...

With either of these kits you are not getting the true measurements as stated because they are going on a standard A4 not the sports suspension which is lower...

So having said that going with the 30mm would not drop it much and you might not see very much difference from what I have now..

On the other hand is the Sportline kit too low for the car driving wise...

I was wondering what you guy's here thought and I assume some of you have been through this problem...

Any advice would be greatfully received...

Hi Kev, thanks for your reply.. my only worry with that kit you have is what I quoted above that it will only drop about 15-20mm which is barely noticeable surely..is it worth doing from the look of it ...

My car as of last week:
These springs are coming up for 5 years old though and i think its dropped a bit more over the years. One of the rears is broken and i'll be fitting new rear springs shortly so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

This was 2014:

And this was immediately after fitting them:

Hi Kev, Might be a bit concerned that your's only lasted 3 years if that on the broken spring rear...they quote a 1,000.000 miles for these Eibach Springs..

they're 5 years old, they went on in february 2012.

Its odd, certain suspension designs seem prone to it. The rear springs on quattro B5's seem to break a lot more than some others. Even the factory ones. I've never seen a broken front spring, but several rears on the cars i've owned and worked on.

I'll post some pics when i get the old ones off.
Hi Kev, When do you think you will be doing it....and is your car a Sport..
Yeah I can see now it's a Quattro Sport do you think maybe that is different from mine or the same...

It failed its MOT last week on a broken spring, so just waiting on a replacement coming!

Its a TQS. Not sure i have a pic of it at its stock ride height though. Let me have a look.

This is the best i have, from May 2010:

Well looking at your Pic from way back when the rear looks slightly lower but the front doe's look about the same as mine to be honest...

aye i think the rear springs had already broken or sagged when i got it. It failed its first MOT with me on a broken rear spring.

Has anyone got a price on the Pro-Kit and maybe someone who can fit them(can't be ***** too busy with my house to do it myself)probably needs aligning in a garage any ways..I'm in the East Midlands if someone knows a decent garage who can fit...

I will have my h&r springs with standard shocks with 30k miles on both for sale soon

Just fitted B8 Bilsteins to my TQS to compliment the Eibach Pro-kit springs I fitted last year. From what I recall at the time the Pro-Kit drops the TQS another 10mm over the 'standard' OEM set-up. I was originally on OEM shocks & springs which were all a bit knackered.

I've not had the car on a long run yet so can't comment on motorways but I like it in the fast twisty roads heading to Loch Lomond. Far better cornering / braking and fast compression handling and no real noticeable harshness on bad road surfaces.

Went through Damion at DM Performance - good service and price.

I had H&R coilovers on my A4 about 9 years ago and they rusted like mad after a few years.

I had FK colivers as well and they rusted but not as badly as the H&R. I didn't notice much difference in the performance either. I did run these lower than the KWs however.

I ended up with KW V3 coilovers in 2014 and on the recommended setup they were too stiff so I have wound them off progressively to find a set up I like. They are great. The helper springs have started to rust and I wish I had got those powdered before fitting now. I also had to create some access holes for the adjuster but I can now adjust them relatively easily with a really ling thin allen key.
