Hi. I am currently in the process of trying a method to rectify the worn soft touch buttons and switches that many of us are plagued with. Being a paintsprayer by day I have been able to get a formulation for the interior dash colour and also a suitable harder wearing matt clearcoat that still has a soft ish feel. I have a couple of worn concert stereos stripped down ready to practice with at work. Hardest bit is obviously the small icons and lettering. I have managed to get someone to replicate the icons in laser cut vinyl to use as a masking sticker. Going to have a play at the weekend with my airbrush and see how it comes out. I'm hoping it will look good and better than those dreaded stickers from a well known auction site. When I've done it and happy will post some images up. If the vinyl lettering and icons work well I'm certain that I've finally found a way to restore these.

Will update post as and when

Fanastic!

Very interested with this..yes please do!

So since having my B6 Cab have always been interested with intelligent ways of re-coating the plastic buttons on the dashboard and electric windows buttons.

I concede, i did bite the bullet and bought a fresh new one from Audi but not all and am interested in seeing what diy jobs can be done.

So far, i took off the plastic blank button (no writting or icons) which is one of the buttons below the 3 air vents in the middle console, stripped it down to find the paint material is literally plasti-coat or very similar.

I may just buy a can, spray it and see what 'effect' comes out.

I also looked at plasti coat but went for the base and Matt clear option as it's free via work lol my biggest reservation is that the decals I am having produced may be too fiddly or not look as good as the pics. They should arrive in next couple of days. If they do turn out to be very close to original I will order loads so can then send out to other members for their diy repair or may even start doing the whole thing for people on here if they want. Just need to practice on a couple first

Haha, cant complain about getting it through work.

Very interested to see how it comes out. I hope it comes out well.

a DIY repair for people at a price would be great!

Hi Guys,

A little info for you that I stumbled upon randomly.

A member on 'Audizine' pulled out his climate control module (as his was really worn down).

He then scraped off the remaining paint and used;

Krylon Ultra Flat Black

http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/krylon-spray-paint/KrylonBlackSprayPaint#.WSgyqY61tE4

Its supposed to be a super 'matte' type paint.

Look at his results!

Pretty good if you ask me!

I may try this at some point!

That's a lot of work when you can just get a b7 panel and swop the buttons over
