2006 3.0 211ps Quattro. A couple of weeks ago I jumped in the car and it felt really flat until the turbo kicks in. The turbo kicks in at 1500-1700rpm. This hasn't changed in a fortnight now. The car is mapped and I've done about 8k on the present map without issue. There are no faults registered.

Any ideas?

Do the diesels have inlet flaps - one motor went on my FSI and lots of torque was missing till it was replaced... no codes thrown either.

Also is the turbo variable vane? Could be sticky vanes.

I assume you do mean you have read codes with VCDS not a generic obd reader ?

Might be time to get a good specialist to look over... what area are you in... if its the North West i can recomment Audi Works in Blackpool. Ex Audi master tech. Lots of knowledge very competitive labour rate. Obviously if not in north west then am sure others will recommend in your area.

Check the MAF. Try disconnecting it and see if it improves the low end performance. Sometimes if you over oil a filter this finds it's way onto the MAF sensor and causes issues. cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol can sort them out sometimes if it is the MAF.
If it's not that it could be start of the motor playing up that controls the VNT on the turbo. These fail quite a lot on the BV50 turbo's .

I'm in the North East. Any recommendations of local specialists are appreciated.

I will give the MAF a go, thanks. It runs the standard filter which I don't believe is oiled though?

I have heard of the VNT issues before. How does that impact the 800-1500 rev power band though as the turbo isn't used at that point? It's not my area of expertise so am struggling to get my head around it.

Thanks for the help so far guys

The turbo is always used - its just not providing much boost..

I would also look at fuel system cleaning - and induction cleaning. The kak that stickies up the vanes can similarly clog injectors and so on.. has economy dropped off?

Lets face it diesels are simple. fuel + air = bang. if the bang isnt big its fundamentally one or the other thats out of sync.... :)

It's on 155k so a clean isn't going to go amiss.

Injectors were replaced a few months ago.

Economy has improved markedly since fitting a DTUK Pedal Box. I've gone from 28mpg urban and 29 combined to 31mpg urban and 35mpg combined. This hasn't been impacted since the reduction in low end performance.

Yeah its probably earned a bit of a clean. I had very good results with Terraclean on a Jeep with 140k ... Obv there are many variants...

There is actually a terraclean guy local to me who owes me a favour so I might get it done anyway. The only reason I haven't as yet is that I was told to wait until after the injectors were sorted which is now done

As you are in the North East, I'd go to Phil at Elite Auto Services in Thornaby.
He is an ex-Audi Master Tech and he knows his stuff.
