Hi all,

I was travelling along a country lane yesterday and managed to strike a deer at about 35mph. I managed to emergency brake as soon as I saw it so the impact wasn't as bad as it could've been. I've attached a picture of the damage to this thread. Any ideas for a fix and the possible cost?

Thank you! :)

Yes, as said above. PDR - Paintless Dent Removal will pull that out no problem. Be looking at £50-70 from experience.

The dent on my car which was in the same place but was a bit worse than yours was a no go on pushing the dent out, so a new wing and re-spray was needed at a cost of £1200(from Audi). I was told because of type of metal the wing is made from it would just split if banged out ?.

IMAG1202

Looking at yours i think that might come out ?. The experts in the know will tell you if its possible ?

Lucky escape on both accounts, its the time of year for innocent Fawns to be wondering round, I almost collided with one while out cycling at the weekend. If it had been a full grown stag you could have been looking at your car being totalled.

Hahaha a massive fright, really unexpected! Oh wow that sounds pretty mental :( Mine isn't that bad and hopefully won't cost much to fix. Glad it didn't go through the radiator or anything, could've been a write off :/

Agreed with that one, was really unexpected and the sound was awful. I think you would of been worse off if you'd hit it haha :p If this little thing had hit the radiator I think it could've done some real damage!

Had a big fright yesterday travelling along the A85 between St Fillans and Comrie at about 6am when I came around a bend to find about 10 or 12 deer in the middle of the road with more still coming over a large hedge. First time I've really tried the S3's brakes in anger and luckily they were up to the job. There seems to be a lot about just now and they are a real hazard on country roads. I passed at least 6 dead at the side of the road on my 250 mile trip including one in the middle of a village.

I had VERY similar damage on my A3 in a hit and run. My dent was in the same position but I also lost paint. My granddads car got hit in a car park in an identical place to yours, almost looks the same dent.

PDR won't get that out alone because of the swage line and will be impossible to get perfect. It's not a new wing job, PDR to improve it and a skim of filler to perfect it.
Get a PDR guy on it for £50 ish, improve it and then a bodyshop to skim it and paint. Mine cost near on £300, had to be blended into the door.

That's pretty crazy but I also found the brakes to be pretty affective :grimacing: It really is the time where they seem to be out and about causing mayhem on our roads! I wonder what damage gets done to cars where the deers are killed?!

Seems to be a popular place for damage then amongst our cars :tearsofjoy: I've emailed a PDR company to see what they say but it'll be a pain if it's not a straight forward job. Don't really want to claim on the insurance due to the new driver status :/

Don't claim whatever you do!! It will ruin you for 5 years for the sake of a few hundred!! It's certainly not a £1200 new wing repair. £300 if it needs paint which it will.

One to watch is that deer rarely travel alone. Therefore if one runs out across the road ahead of you, beware as there'll probably be at least another one at the back of it.

Yes when I spot one I always look for the other(s). They're the ones that usually cause the problem rather than the one already on the road as they are normally in full flight and move really quickly. After my close shave on Saturday I was telling a few people when I reached my destination and one of the guys told me he has one of these fitted to his Discovery.

He reckons it works and is not visible from outside the vehicle. The problem I see after reading up on them is that it says that the deer 'freezes' on hearing the signal. That could be messy if it is already on the road!!

Yeah, I've heard of these before but no experience of them or if they work either.
I suppose that, in many cases, it's the unpredictability of their movement which will cause the issue trying to second guess what way they're going to go. So if it freezes, at least you have a chance of avoiding it, but not always as you say.

I've just checked my dashcam and the footage is still there that shows these ones were certainly traveling en masse.
You can see it just at the start of the footage and although it looks nice and calm it certainly wasn't like that from inside the car at the time.

That whistle thing seems pretty clever! Tempting for the price but might look a bit odd if it can't be hidden well

I wasn't going to as my insurance is already £2700 as I'm a newish and young driver :grimacing: I'd never be able to insure again if I claimed haha!

I'll make sure to be careful, if this repair costs £300 it would be awful if I were to hit multiple. Poor Audi! I'll get a few marks/dents sorted at the same time (might as well)

Wow Bill. I found myself pressing the flooring with my right foot trying to brake for you whilst sitting at my desk!
