I've never been a fan of it....but I've actually specced it on the S3 I've got coming...

Basically Miss Eskimo hates leather for how hot it gets in the sun, and how cold it gets in the winter, so wanted the cloth/leather seats from the S-Line. But since they don't do that, I chose the alcantara. Will make a (nice..?) change, since I've had leather on every car I've ever owned!

I actually like the look of the alcantara on the doors of the S5, so that's what made me give it a go.

Yeah its great on door cards and looks awesome on headlining only because there's no point of contact on these parts of the car.....put it on seats and steering wheels....it grows bald and shiny....lol

Yea I thought that. Although surprised to hear the guy in the video suggest it's alright on the seats, but crap on wheel and gear stick...?

I have lunar white alcantara in my S3 , and can only say they are comfy in all weathers . I had it treated from day one along with a detail. 11000 miles , 20 months in still look brand new.

I have the leather / alcantara seats on my S4 & love 'em
Having never had alcantara seats before I was a bit sceptical but its fab. My next car will have it if I can spec it

I'm sick of full leather seats going all saggy & shiny on the base & just don't mention it when you have the extremes of hot & cold
Trust me @DrEskimo you won't regret it

Agree. Looks fab on the door cards too

The wife's old MIN IJCW had a part alcantara & leather steering wheel & I hated it .I suppose like leather there are different grades of alcantara

My drivers side front door card on my S4

Oh & the door armrests are nappa leather not that mono-pur leatherette you 8V A3/S3 owners have to suffer

A synthetic material, but costs as much as leather/suede when fitted to a car??
In the video, what does it say on his sweatshirt??

It doesn't cost as much as leather,but car makers charge the same amount of money for it as leather, sometimes even more, ie Audi and Porsche will

There is no way that alcantara is as durable as leather. It is also a pita to keep clean and has wear issues and let us face facts it is man made suede at a premium price, would you pay the same for fake leather?

@jassyo06 - But that was a Peugeot & it is a womans car :p :D

My wife (qualified woman) on the RCZ;

"Hmm. It looks like the sort of sports car that men who didn't know how to drive properly but care a little to much about how they look would drive, like those pillocks with the tight jeans and ironic beards, or those guys that wear those stupid buns on top of their heads? That kind of man... It's only front wheel drive? What? For 30 grand? For goodness sake, no. No, I definitely don't want one."

I have an RS3 S/W in my car and I'm glad that 90% of the time my hands are on leather. Pretty sure that on the new RS3 Audi have reversed it so that leather bits are alcantara and vice versa for some reason.
