So I've had my 3 door S3 for a week now and absolutely love it. I was prepared for the fuel economy to be far worse than my previous car but it isn't. I've not been blasting it because it's new but I've not been driving like miss daisy either. I only averaged about 31mpg from my 1.8 TFSI admittedly with more round town driving than motorway.

Audi have definitely worked some magic to get the power they have and still keep the economy reasonable.

I've had over Audi's quoted MPG figures for the S-tronic out of mine. They do quite well over a long journey.

I came from a 2013 FWD 1.8 tfsi that averaged 40 mpg to an S3 that delivers around 30 mpg on similar journeys with a little more spirited driving style. Best average on the DIS was 50 mpg on a long motorway journey in the 1.8 but the reading was always around 10% high compared to actual use.

Keeping that economy gauge can play some tricks on your mind man, I know I start driving differently with it up.

Never ever seen it so high...i do alot of town driving though and get 11-15

I do a lot of town driving too and get 19-25 driving in dynamic Auto mode. I do tend to keep the economy gauge up in town and you can see how to drive it efficiently.

I managed to get it to 38 from Hull to Leeds on the motorway on Friday night

Then today ...... I was slightly more spirited, back roads and some town traffic and then this

I was disappointed with the town economy initially. I was expecting it to be better than 21-22mpg, which is what I used to get on my S3 8P.

But after two months of ownership now, the car is getting better. I'm putting it down to V-Power and the car loosening up. I think the dealer had been putting in cheap fuel.

So I can now see 24-27mpg depending on traffic and how i drive it.

Motorway economy is amazing. I've also seen 38 and 40 mpg and 400 miles from a tank.
