Carista App Now Avaliable For the 8V A3/S3 - PFL & FL Covered

Seems like it may be similar to the fault above unfortunately @Leigh Dreyer

I can't remember off the top of my head, will check tomorrow if I remember.

I think it was roughly under Car Settings -> Convenience settings?
Mirror dipping cannot be controlled via any mmi menu, only folding on lock can.

Ahh sorry! Must have got mixed up with another family members car which I'm fairly sure has that option (Seat Cupra 290)

"Convenience Menu" was a term used in older vehicles I think, possibly a VW term...

The consensus seems to be that you can't use Carista to enable beep on remote lock on a 2017 8V (at least I can't), but can it be done with VCDS?

Yes, it's my most popular modification.

You do, its park of the folding mirror package for 8V cars.

I had it already enabled but the mirrors do not dip when you put the car into reverse??

Mirror switch needs to be in the passenger position for the dip to work. If it's not working then either a dip position has not been set or there is a problem elsewhere which needs investigating.

To set a dip position select the passenger mirror enter reverse gear, adjust mirror to the kerb, then select a forward gear and either advance over 8mph or select the driver's mirror to have it return to the driving position. Then select passenger mirror and select reverse gear. If the mirror did not dip then you have an issue.

One thing I noticed when a customer had an issue with the feature from the factory was that the passenger mirror did not have the same range of movement as the drivers side. Closer inspection saw that the glass was off centre and rubbing on the trim surround. Might be worth having a look at the glass.

hi

I definatelly dont have a convenience settings menu in MMI and have tried a few things now like disabliong carista setting then flipping switch to passenger wing mirror and then enabling both option in carista still no joy. I also tried the putting car in Park then in Reverse and setting mirror angle to kerb then putting it back in Park and then in drive as believe thats how you program is but still no joy arghhhhhhhh maybe i need to go see dealer its a 2015 november S3 8V model just to clarify.

Yes, it's my most popular modification.

I have also come to the same conclusion about beep on lock/unlock for the facelift 8v - I raised this with carista and their response is as below - is this something that someone with greater knowledge can respond to or help me to respond to? My nephew tried to use carista to do this with no luck - from memory, although the menu/option was on carista to enable beep on lock/unlock and even though the app indicated it had been enabled??, nothing happens using the remote and the turn on/off option is not present on the mmi - it would be nice to get this facility on the facelift 8v though!
I have not replied to the below as yet as I do not feel I have the correct knowledge!

"Hi, thanks for writing. Does such a setting show up at all of your in Carista? If it does, is Carista able to change it or do you get an error message when you attempt to change it?

If it doesn't show up at all, it would be useful if you could send us "debug data", so we can see if we can develop it for your car. The late-year 2016 and all 2017 A3s use slightly different electronics than the older ones, so yes, we are working on figuring out how to implement more customizations there. To send debug data, see the last FAQ here: http://www.caristaapp.com/help/"

I am afraid I'm out of ideas then

Maybe take it to the dealer as it is under warranty then and you should have this feature if you have factory fitted folding mirrors I believe

is the general feeling that this isnt worth the money. I need to open the exhaust flaps again and its just easier i guess doing it myself that trying to meet up with someone with VCDs just wondering if there is anything else on there that this does or perhaps and alternative

Dunno about the flaps as mine doesnt have any! Personally, i feel the app is great but you only need it once, buy the official Carista Dongle thing from Amazon and you get a months free trial. Thats the perfect way around it. i paid £35 or something for a years access and really dont need it. I havent used it since the 1st day i got it. Plus there has been no updates to features since xmas so it seems it has run its course.

I was just looking around to see if there is anything else, but its seems they are prettty much a diagnostic tool raher than being able to customise things. I might try that from amazon, seen them on ebay for £40 odd pound but I had my exhaust flaps opened but when it back to audi they must have reset the car because now only the inner tailpipe is getting dirty again and sounds less noticable.

Yeah it does seem to be the only app that is out there that can do these things so its good for that, but in relation to buying a years subscription then its not worth it as you can do all you want in the 1st month. The 1 month free trial only comes with the official Carista dongle so if you buy from ebay it might not be official, it might be 2nd hand or used etc.... here is a link to the one i bought. It is only £31 so not sure why ebay is selling for more.

www.amazon.co.uk/Carista-Bluetooth-OBD2-Adapter-App/dp/B00YVHGTBM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495614604&sr=8-1&keywords=carista

If you click "pricing" on the official webpage below then you can see that if you buy the dongle you get a 1month trial. i think you sign up via itunes but then cancel it before the 30 days are up:

Sorry this maybe a stupid question but is it only the S3/rs3 that have the exhaust flaps? I assume the 1.8 doesn't but I just want to double check

yeah i checked amazon after you said about it, probably ebay sellers are factoring in the sellers fees into the price. I'll get it then i did ask carista and they came back with they have a beta version to do the exhaust so made me think that it currently wasnt suppored.

onyl had a play around with it for abotu an hour today, but very easy to use. I signed up to the Beta program and they have opened a few other thigns i believe, so i opened the exhaust flaps (what with the res delete aswell sounds good lol) and had a play around with the DRL switching off when the indicator is on etc, plus Drl brightness. other than that didnt really play around with anything else. its a good planned out format though. works very easy to aswell

Hi can anyone point me in the direction of a carista compatible obd2 reader on amazon. I've read a few review that state some are fake and don't work properly

Have you even read this thread? because a few posts above yours i put a link, as have others throughout this 6 page thread. Seek and you shall find! BTW, not seen anyone on this thread or the A3 part of this forum put anything about a "fake" reader...

Sorry should of mentioned it was reviews on amazon saying some were fake. Plus I was looking for a NON carista one. Thanks .

Not sure why you would want a "NON" Carista one. You would prob end up paying more for it as the official one includes a free 1 month trial.

Does anyone know if there is an option to turn on the DRLs when unlocking the car.

Kind of like how the leaving home lights work when it's dark but in the day and without dipped beam.

I had this feature on my BMW and quite miss it! TIA

Hmm, S3 or A3? My PFL S3 from 2016 does this already in the dark, but are you saying you want it to happen also in the day?

FL A3 sline with the LED headlights.

Yes in the daytime but ideally only the DRLs.

Mine also do this but only in the dark.

Hmm I'm not too sure then.

Just want it for aesthetic purposes then I guess?

If it can't be done with Carista I imagine this would probably be achievable with VCDS - @DJAlix can probably confirm?

If you are talking about "Manual" Leaving Home lights then no, this is not possible. Manual coming home lights are possible but not via Carista. If you have Auto Lights and wipers and are wanting leaving home lights to work during the day, this is also not possible unless its really dark outside. Also, if you have do have Auto Lights and wipers and are wanting your CH / LH lights to be DRL only this is possible but not via Carista as far as I know.

Oh right strange.. I assumed the car could be 'tricked' into thinking it was dark (by a code change with VCDS) but thinking about it now I guess that would ruin the auto lights in general as it would always think it is dark

Thanks for confirming! :)

There are "lumens (lx)" related settings but yup, this would screw up the auto lights functionality on a whole.

Cheers for the replies guys. Shame, I quite fancied my DRLs to light up when I unlocked the car - purely for aesthetic reasons. Never mind!

Yeah just thinking about it, it would look quite cool... Ah well! :)

I've done a couple of carista updates recently involving changes to the a3 8v (locking customisations only I think). Anybody know what they are?

Away to get my oem res delete pipe fitted in couple weeks (bought from usa and waiting on it arriving) and want the flaps opened up. Just unplugged them on last car but wanted to go down the electronic route this time so no errors.
Is this now available on the FL or still only beta version?

Apologies if this is a bit of a dumb question... I'm thinking of getting a genuine Carista adapter - will this allow me to both read and clear fault codes in my facelift 8V A3?
I know there are customisations and diagnostics, but it's a little unclear to me!

Ok... yes, I'm an idiot... read through the Carista site and clearly says reading and clearing fault codes...
Ordered one up.
Hope it also allows me to at least switch off start/stop and remove seat belt warning...
Will see what other 8V goodies are available...

anyone tried out the new update? i tried out the Start Screen logos but could only get one to work which was the A3 E-tron.

Tried out the options of the Start screen logos for the DIS & MMI screen. The MMI screen options didn't work on mine. There are quite a few options but none worked. The DIS screen Logos worked as follows:

Option 1, 7 & 8 = Nothing
Option 2 = S3 Logo
Option 3 = A3 G-Tron Logo
Option 4 = A3 E- Tron Logo
Option 5 = A3 CNG Logo
Option 6 A3 TCNG Logo

It took me ages to try them all out! Easiest way is to keep ignition on, keep the Carista OBD plugged in, open the app and perform the Screen Logo change. Take key out, then lock the car, unlock, then open the door to check out the logo in the DIS. perform again to check out the different options.

Hope that helps someone. Would be great if someone else could try so we can see if the options are the same. I have the low tech MMI so maybe thats why i get less options.

Quite happy with the update as i can now turn off the rubbish fog lights cornering lights someone added via VCDS!

Does anyone know if Caristsa will allow you to de-activate side airbags? For example if fitting recaro seats. Don't want the annoying dash light on.:)
