I have noticed an unusual pattern with my S-Tronic S3 where the car responds very differently to throttle input depending on what mode the gear selector is in. I always keep drive select in individual which I have set everything to dynamic except steering which is in comfort. The only thing that I change is when I get into my car traction control always gets switched off and i'll have car in either D, S or full manual (gear lever pushed all the way to the left). I have noticed the following:

1. D-Mode: This is the mode I use when just cruising around and when I press the accelerator the car does take a split second to wake up so there is definitely a delay in throttle response. This I do not have an issue with as I do not need fast responses when in this mode;

2. Full Manual (gear lever all way to the left): Now I have had the car for just over a month and this is predominantly the mode I had been using exclusively up until recently (reasons explained later). The throttle response seemed a bit better than D mode but still not great. One thing I have noticed is that occasionally in this mode throttle response can get very bad and the almost seems to lunge forward after taking seemingly forever to pick up my inputs with the accelerator pedal. This has only happened twice usually it is ok.

3. S-Mode: Recently I have decided to give S Mode a try out of interest to see how the car is set up to perform out of the box. Never have been keen on using this mode as have always preferred having more control in full manual. As soon as I click the gear lever down into S mode and floor it straight away I immediately notice the throttle response is very noticeably improved over both full manual mode and D mode. I now have decided because of this to leave it S mode and if I want manual changes ill just use the paddles and don't touch the gear lever

I wonder if this is normal and what you guys with S-Tronic boxes have experienced in relation to getting the best throttle response out of this car

By using the paddles in S mode you automatically defeat S mode,yeah throttle response in manual dynamic mode is better

The lurch you speak of is intended. Both clutches are opening so the downshifting process is faster.

This is what I find as well. The throttle delay is sometimes irritating, but you get used to it, and with deft use of the throttle you can seem to "get it ready" without moving.
I just knock it into S when coming to a place (eg roundabout) when I think I may need instant response.

Unless I'm feel lazy, I always drive with my s-tronic in manual and use the paddles. I usually change down when approaching a roundabout or junction in the same way as I would in a manual, ready to go if it's clear. If it's not and I have to stop then the s-tronic obviously selects 1st gear. Much more fun than any auto mode. The only time I use auto is in traffic queues when I'm also using the ACC.

I feel the same way, my old 8P A3 had better throttle response. It feels like there's a small gap on the throttle when in D mode, like you have to push it down more to get the same power. I do like using S mode apart from how long it stays in gear, its mainly the second gear for me that lasts too long.

Personally I think S is useless on the road, where you'd usually be in say 5th, in S you're likely to be in 3rd. Just makes you look like you can't drive in the end.

Were you in the same gear in M and S to compare throttle response? D is slightly harder as the car will decide what gear you should be in and the car has more input in selecting the gears when you accelerate.

Personally if I'm doing normal driving I'll have it in D and if I want to have a bit of a hoon or just want to listen to the pops I'll have it in M.

Put it in S mode first then go to M = best of both all worlds

That's exactly what I've been doing seems to be working the trick
