I have just had a full balancing and 4 wheel alignment done by tyre smart in Essex, good service! The car drives lovely now.
But it drives straight when I hold the steering wheel straight...as soon as I let it go the steering wheel will turn to the left slightly.
I think it's the steering wheel angle sensor thinking that that is the middle position.
Can someone confirm this?
Also is there anyone who's in Essex on North London with vcds and the knowledge and knowhow on how to reset it and would like to earn a few quid?

I can't see that being the issue tbh as it is only a sensor it doesn't have any input to the steering rack.
You can do a manual steering reset by rotating the steering wheel fully to the left and holding for a few seconds and then same again to the right, hild fir a few seconds and back to centre.
It's more likely a tyre pressure, road camber or geometry issue

I've checked tyre pressures there all the same now. Don't think it's road camber as it's the same on all different types of roads. And I've just had all the geometry sorted.
I'm puzzled!
I will try that reset and see how that goes

I had the alingmen done and the printout shows they are all bang in now.

Has anyone had the same problem and solved it with a steering wheel calibration of some sort?

Take it back to the garage who done your alignment.

Not suggesting this is the case but I had track rod end bushes done and it stopped pulling to the left, they also said irregular tyre wear is another cause... Mine had been aligned with hunter previous to this...

I will have a look at them thanks mate. It's going back to the alignment shop again on Thursday so will see what they say

When I had the alignment done, the guy said, you need new bushes, come back when they're done and we'll re-align...

Thanks for the reply.
Took it back to the place this morning. They went over and fine tweeted it a bit more. Still feels lovely to drive but still tilts to the left.
They said possible wishbone bushs too so going to have a go at changing them.
Anyone done this on there own DIY Style?

So im planning to change to the powerflex anti lift kit with new standard front wishbone front bushes and new standard ball joints. Along with the ecs subframe bolt and spacer kit from awsome gti.
The reason i am going for the standard bushes is becuase i dont want a solid ride i still want abit of comfort.
What do people think of this set up? Anyone got it and can let me know.
I was also thinking about the dogbone gearbox mount insert to firm up the shifts.

'audismar' do you think the Anti lift kit will help with the steering wheel dropping to the left problem?

Are the tyres on the front the same make and tread depth. Have you got a caliper sticking?, Feel the centre of the wheel when you park up after you have been driving for a while. they should be the same temperature. If one is markedly hotter then a brake pad may be dragging.

okay thanks mate i will check that as soon as i get back to my car on the weekend

Anti lift kit will do you no harm fella, it will improve your drive quite a lot, especially when getting your foot down, you wont get the hop and judder normally associated with spirited driving, but as derststorm says above, check your calipers not binding first.
Not sure why your fitting the sub frame spacer kit? Have you got the thud every time you reverse and go into forward drive?

You need to take it back and get them to set the steering wheel straight. You can set the angle sensor incorrectly - don't ask how I know lol. Going back and having the front alignment set correctly with steering wheel should sort it

Should have said I'm getting the spacers kit for a different town reason really, to try and stop some of the knocking coming from the subframe.
I think I'm just going to do the anti lift kit regardless seems like a good mod.
And I'm definately going to check the brakes as that is a very possible chase which could be an easy fix.
I had all tracking looked at a second time with angle sensor reset. The tracking is good. It's something on the car making it want to turn left when releasing the steering wheel

I've got a whiteline kit for sale in the classifieds if you want to save a few quid?

Waking an old post here.

Since my last post I have fitted whiteline anti lift kit, track rod ends, track rods, wishbone bushes and ball joints. It has tightened it all up nicely.

Went back to the same place to get allingment, drive straight as an arrow when holding the steering wheel straight but still drops to the left when I let the steering wheel go, pulling the car to the left slightly.

Went back they had a muck about with different set ups and test drives, reset the steering angle.

AND IT STILL DOES IT!

any other ideas of what it could be?

I'm thinking maybe arb or drop links?

It's doing my head In!

When you accelerate, does the car pull to the right? Then when you take your foot of the accelerator, does the car pull to the left again?

No acceleration doesn't make a difference just means I go in the fence on the left alot quicker.

Hmmm bit of a difficult one. Our fiesta at home was doing something similar actually and that was because of the difference in tyre wear in the front axle. Passenger side tyre was worn down to just above the legal limit (it was around 1.9mm) and the driver side had about 5mm tread. It was pulling to the side with the lower tread. Replaced both tyres with new ones and car is now perfect, goes straight even if you let go off the wheel. If this is the same case as yours, the alignment shouldn't have been done with one incredibly worn tyre. But if it's not that, then you may have to look at something else.

On my A3, the car would veer to one side when one of the subframe bolts had snapped. It would pull to the left on it's own, unless I held the steering wheel at one angle and stayed on the throttle. When I let go of the throttle, even with steering angle applied, the car would then pull to the left.
