Has anyone come up with a way to use a QWERTY keyboard with the A3 Navigation in place of the rather antiquated A-Z using the wheel.

I know I can send destinations from My Audi but just wondered if their was a way to just use a connected QWERTY.

I would be surprised if this is possible, I very much doubt Audi programmed the MMI to work with a keyboard. The only keyboard that would talk to the car would be using VCDS and the OBD.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You can try and plug a keyboard into a USB port but I wouldn't hold out much hope.

The MMI4G v1 and v2 is basically an nVidia PC running QNX. Might be possible to hack the main OS but would have no idea on how to do this.

All sounds rather complicated. I shall have to stick with entering destinations from my computer or tablet where possible. I've entered a few from my computer via My Audi and it seems to work OK.

Must admit I've never had an issue with the scroll wheel when entering addresses as it misses out unneeded letters and comes up with suggestions.
How many times do you need to enter adddress anyway? Carrying a keyboard in the car to do it seems more of a faff to me.

It not that it's complicated just so much slower than entering an address on my TomTom unit with it's touch screen qwerty keyboard. Hopefully the next A3 will have a touch screen with the Android Auto. Even if the actual Audi unit does not allow it, it should be possible through any tablet or smartphone's keyboard.

Android/Apple seems to be making its way into lots of cars so it'll be a standard feature soon enough

Not used the Voice control / entry?

I always use voice entry. Works 99% of the time

Just say 'online search'

Say your destination and it comes up.

So much easier than the keyboard

I've not tried it yet, but I will have a go (and see where I end up!)
