I've not been on here for a while but I thought I'd share this as it may help someone or be of interest to someone who may be in the same boat as I was.

I've currently had a crazy month with Audi Warrington. In the end I have won my case with the backing of Audi UK which I am very happy with.

Last September when I took my car in for a full service, I opted out of the emissions SW update (23Q7) for my CR177 due to negative feedback regarding the update from friends and from Audi forum reading. It is not mandatory to have it done and my car was perfectly fine as it was.

I signed a document on my service records (That Audi Warrington made me sign), and I have the invoice stating that “I (the customer) do not want 23Q7 carried out on my car”.

Roll on to this year in April, I took it in for its MOT and when I collected it I was then told that they had carried out the 23Q7 SW update for the emissions.

At this point I was fuming and I explained the situation to the service staff to be then told it cannot be reversed for legal reasons... :wtf:

Over two weeks of driving to work and back which is a 70mile round trip per day, I noticed a change. On my normal journey I am always used to seeing an average MPG of 46-48MPG each way on to dash computer. Already I’ve noticed it’s doing 40-42MPG taking it easy. Also on the motorway the car feels slightly flatter in 6th gear. It also felt very lumpy and hesitant when pulling away from traffic lights etc.

My argument to Audi Warrington & Audi UK was... If they can't return it to what it was, then I want it better than what is currently is post the SW update.

The fact that I'd signed a document to not have it carried out on my car and then find that it was done against my will and authorisation sort of made me bullet proof.

In the end Audi Warrington booked me into Awesome GTi at my request on the 18th of May for a stage 1 APR remap at their cost.

Hassan at Awesome GTi told me that their APR remap overwrites the 23Q7 emissions update as they have been doing a lot of development including before and after runs on the RR due to customers coming to them after the update has been actioned.

He also said they do not chase figures and place a more drivable map on the car. I can now vouch that what he said is very true. The car feels so much smoother and although it’s not a rocket ship, it pulls very hard through the gears. Also, one of my main complaints has been rectified whereas the MPG has shot back up again. In fact it’s improved in comparison to what I was getting. I'm now seeing 50-53MPG on my work journey.

Anyway... Here's a few pics of the car and the dyno results before and after. Very pleased :yahoo::yes:

Audi incompetence at its best.

Glad it's sorted in the end but I can imagine the pain it was to get them to agree to this.

Only good thing is they can't say any defects are not covered because of the map.

Good write up in troubled times.

Cheers mate,

This is just one of the issues I've had over the 2 and a half years of ownership. The odd issue is genuinely acceptable and blows over. But I've had quite a few with them. To be fair, they do try to sort you out, but outright incompetence just shouldn’t happen as consistently as it does with them.
