Has anyone used the Audi retrofit kit for upgrading to DAB? it seems the kit, or at least the kit for mine is available but limited supply in the UK, my kit number is 8K0051794B comes in at £404.78 inc plus fitting at £150.
Now i know the fitting is expensive and it could probably be done by myself apart from any software updates.
This option does appeal to me more than the Kufatec System as there seems to be very little in price comparison and the Audi system should work more seamlessly, any thoughts?

I'm interested in finding out about this also as DAB is one of the few things I really wish my A4 had.

£150 to fit isn't expensive tbh as its not just the time to fit, its the knowledge, tools, etc etc that comes into play.

Audi kit will always be best for compatibility, so I would suggest there kit tbh.

Are you UK based?

I ask of location as we maybe able to install for you.

I recently fitted one from kufatec and it was about 320 from the German site. Tim an hour to fit and works great.

Do you have a link to what you fitted?

I have factory fit DAB & I find it can take rather long time to find the stations when I start my journey, so much so that I listen to other media for a bit first.
I get the speaker with a line through it for a good while, then next day it's straight there upon ignition.

Sounds odd. As well as the A4 I've got an a3 with factory fit DAB and it works brilliantly hence why I really want to get it for the A4.

The antenna in the saloon rear screen is a bit pants. Think it is designed for European DAB. Works OK in urban areas, but can be hit and miss in hilly areas. At some point I'm going to fit an after market antenna.

Have no issues with my S4 avant Dab :). You could always fit the Alpine X701D-A4r. Had one in my previous A4, not cheap but had a good Dab, satnav, Bluetooth etc.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have DAB in my A4, I see that DAB+ seems to be the latest standard. Is there any way to upgrade the current DAB system to DAB+?

What's Dab +? I'm pretty confused with all this dab. I'm looking to fit an aftermarket head unit but am not keen on these dab antennas in windows. Would my 09 s3 have a factory fitted dab by any chance? How would I know/where is it located? I've seen these for vw t5 vans and wondered if I could cram one into a wing mirror if I don't have a factory fitted one? http://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/products/digital-radio-dab/genuine-vw-t5-dab-antenna/

Not 100% sure, but isn't it part of the shark fin on the roof?

Here is the blurb:

What is DAB+?
DAB+ is a new form of DAB Digital Radio broadcasting. DAB+ uses a different way of transmitting the audio.

A DAB+ radio will receive old-fashioned DAB signals, as well as new DAB+ stations.

How can I tell if a radio works with DAB+?
  • Look for a DAB+ logo, or a Digital Radio 'tick', on the box or on the device itself.
  • If it is clearly for sale in other European countries (the box has German, Danish or Norwegian on it) it'll almost certainly get DAB+
  • If it is built-in to a car and the car was manufactured since 2014, it'll almost certainly support DAB+
To check for certain, turn the radio on and look for "Fun Kids UK" or "Magic Chilled". If you can hear these stations, your radio supports DAB+

DAB+ and DAB – the differences, and its use in the UK

Why is a DAB+ radio a good thing?
DAB+ lets radio broadcasters fit more stations on transmitters. That means more choice of radio stations, and can also mean better sound quality.

Are they using DAB+ anywhere else?
DAB+ is the standard form of digital radio broadcasting in many countries in Europe and Australia. The UK is relatively unusual in still broadcasting most services in the older DAB standard.

What happens to my old DAB radio?
With millions of older DAB radios still in use across the UK, and a relatively low replacement cycle, DAB will still be broadcast for years to come. But perhaps now's the time to upgrade: you'll find more stations available now and in the future.

I have DAB, but no shark fin, I think it's embedded in the rear windscreen.

I live in North Yorkshire and have DAB standard in my S-Line.
I would not bother as the signal strength is so variable, only channels which can swap to FM automatically are any good. More specialist channels are frustrating as they cut out frequently.

*sorry guys, just realised this is an S4 post!

Right Guys, this is really confusing me now. I have found this: https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/con...nwards-double-din-car-stereo-fitting-kit.html (picture below). From what I can tell and can someone please confirm?
  • This includes everything I need for CANBUS?
  • And BOSE adaptor?

I asked the website but got a one word reply saying yes and I'm not convinced as I was quoted much more from a guy fitting it.
Also I have been quoted £350 to provide and install a hidden DAB aerial/antenna. Now I have a 09 S3 8P. it has a pan roof and currently no shark fin or any external aerial. I'd like to keep it this way, so could someone please tell me?

  • Where is the OEM DAB aerial located on my model car? would it be a shark fin? is it in the bumper? wing mirror? that funny bit of plastic you see above the internal mirror on some cars?
