Prawn and BigAls A3 Track Car

Coincidentally, there's an actual NSFW adult-entertainment site called LobsterTube. Full of all kinds of filth, though that didn't put off many of the matelots I know who used it for their self-servicing needs to get them through deployments.

I suggest we all invest money in that site. :moneybag: Its going to go ballistic. (Incidentally, to much information.)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Engine is out.

I was pretty annoyed last year when I discovered the compbrake dual MC bias pedal box last year, right after buying a new MC and servo.

Do I take the opportunity now whilst it's all apart?

It's a choice between leaving it as it is, and seeing how the brakes are with some decel lock from the plate diff.

Or fitting the bias box.

The brakes definitely felt better in the few laps of Combe I did, but even with full rear bias I was still able to lock fronts long before rears.

I also believe that the standard servod system makes my brakes ultra Grabby. There's very little pedal effort required to get them to lock, making modulation much harder.

From speaking to people using a split arrangement, they're using roughly double the pedal force to stop the car, which would be strange at first, but apparently allows them to really lean on them hard with great feedback of. Impending lockups.

The only thing I'm unsure of at the moment is clearance against the cam belt cover and turbo.

I've emailed compbrake about fitment and asked for some pictures so I can work out how close it may or may not sit!

compbrake dual MC bias pedal box

Compbrake crap

Do you're own research; you'll find lots of folks who've had issues with them

Dual bias controllers = yes though - in many motorsport series they are required if you've removed ABS

I'm well aware of the wonders of compbrake  and I'm inclined to agree with you snowy!

If it can be adapted and made to work though....

If just be buying the bare box, not cylinders etc, as they can't be trusted quality wise on cylinders.

I know of someone successfully running an early compbrake bulkhead mount pedal box in a mk4 with good results.

Will wait and see what they say fitment wise and if they're feeling helpful!

No. Fit the engine, and get back out on track.
If you start messing around with that now, you'll miss the rest of this year.
Unless you're already planning to miss the rest of the year, in which case, you may as well.

That's what I cant decide at the moment Alex (@sparrow )

I had a target in mind of September, with a view to being able to do the Spring action day, Audi Driver International, and the CGTI Sprint at Curby.

I'm not sure at the moment how likely it is that I'll be able to make that deadline at all. It's been over a month and I've still not found the time to strip the old engine down even. I'll totally admit I'd under estimated just how much time Oliver would take, and when I DO have an hour spare, I'm so tired I don't end up using it wisely at all.

I'm sure that'll all settle down at some point and I'll find the time. We've been unbelievably busy at weekends lately with family and social events.

If I were definitely going to have everything else done for September I don't think I'd consider the brake re-work. but if I'm going to miss the tail end of trackday season, then I'm thinking I may as well go all out and do the pedal box now too, then spend winter getting used to it on the road and ironing out any little issues.....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, decisions!

If just be buying the bare box

heard/read accounts of the box itself collapsing, albeit on versions from a few years ago

forewarned is forearmed and all that

Ohps.

Just sold my K430

Things are really starting to get out of hand here

Out of hand or not, you're going to be a real pioneer with your 1.8t to N/A conversion...

Wow, that's hurtful. What did I ever do to you?
Nothing... you just aren't blunt enough or sweary enough... need to try harder... although to be fair that may get you banned... which is more like Jardo... :)

I assume you were banned from the pet shop shortly after?

So were the gorilla and the sloth that were laughing at the poor hamster.
Subsequently, the gorilla whacked one of his caretakers for missing feeding time.

I can always rely on you lot to derail the thread  Thanks guys xxx

So, in other news!

I was looking at the compbrake pedal box arrangement last week.

I did some measuring up to see if it'd fit.

Compbrake installed on another car:

No clearence issues there then  Eek. Not lovely, but could be solved using AP stubby master cylinders.

However, turbo clash was more what I was thinking, so before posting off the old stock 064, I dropped it onto a head to check exactly where it sat and work out if the compbrake pedal box with AP cylinders could be an option still:

I think it's pretty safe to say they're trying to occupy the same space. If by some mircale things were to clear, there would be millimeters in it, which I'm just not comfortable with, so that idea was shelved.

I also found half an hour spare this week, so got out the degreaser and started to clean up what will be my new head to build:

It looked fairly grotty before:

After a quick going over with degreaser, This is with no agitation or scrubbing at all, just degreaser sprayed on, left for 15 mins, then pressure washed off. I think It's come up well for a first quick attempt, similar to what I found on the test head last week.

OK, enough avoiding the question,

@craigt1985 guessed it!

A deal came up, the time was right. I spoke nicely to Clive and the k430 and all tfsi hardware was returned to BBT, and in its place, will be this:

And yes, before anyone else beats me to it, Stevie Wonder did weld up the downpipe  but it'll be hidden and wrapped so it's all good.

surely it would be better to check master cylinder clearance with this turbo if it's what you're going to be running rather than checking it with a turbo that you're not going to be running? Or did you check before the decision to swap turbo was made?

Looking at the pics it was hitting the engine... having been involved in several builds using TSR/Nortech mani's I'd say that this combination is unlikely to be an issue...

My setup pictured below will give you an idea... my downpipe doesn't really extend past runner 1...
