Hey Guys,

It's been a long time since I posted up and really wanted to some advice now as I'm looking to start tuning my car.

Here's some photos of her recently;

I know this is certainly not everyone's cup of tea but however I love what I'm building and just want some tuning advice, so please refrain from slating my rice ;) And I know the rear bumper looks a state but the GTRS rear end arrives today to be sprayed!

It's a 2000 1.8T Sport MK1 A3 regged on 01/01/2000 <3

I'm looking to spend quite some money soon on the engine build - so really wanted some advice on what sort of turbo to go for and what I would require to back up a decent amount of power.

I have spent money elsewhere on the car since purchase she was completely standard, I also have recaro buckets in the front and stripped out the rear with an audio system which I've started to install. S3 2014 flat bottom steering wheel is being ordered next week and also looking to get the carpets re-done and refitted and also have the dash and centre re-moulded to a more up-to-date look :)

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a "I don't like your car thread" - Just after some honest opinions on what could be spent for a good build.

I agree bud, it's your car and your entitled to do to it what you want, as for tuning, you could start with a remap, it will liven the car up, AGU engines feel quite a bit different with just a stage 1 map. Although making the car quicker may be a bit of a waste of time if you're going to fill it up with heavyweight ice system.

I don't want just a stage 1 as recently got bored a stage 2 1.8t aum golf. So going back into this feels real sluggish.

I'm looking to spend money on more than just a remap - I'm just wondering which parts I will need for something like a stage 2.5?

I already have a 3" turbo back exhaust
Front Mount Intercooler
Induction + Cold air feed

Is ko3s worth it or just go bigger?

My price range is quite open at the minute - obviously nothing too ridiculous.

Whats your budget?... whats your power goal?...

You mention an engine build... what are the plans for this as this will ultimately decide if you should stick to a hybrid small frame turbo or allow you to go for larger framed turbo...

If just going for an engine refresh so rods and head rebuild then any hybrid setup will work depending on where you want to be... 300 to 350 plus hp is achievable with the right set of bits..

Beyond that its garrett turbos (other makes are available) and lots more money...

Your current engine code will also dictate the approach to tuning... can't work out what you have as its close to the changeover year to AUM but assuming its an AGU you may find it difficult to get anything too exoctic tuned as no one really touches the AGU's ME3.8 ECU these days (as they are pretty dumb as ECU's go)... the option for these is to look at using a standalone ECU like Prawn has done with the Emerald K6

If you have an AUM then it uses the smaller 19mm pinned rods... so this would limit bigger power unless changing over to 20mm pinned pistons or having new forged pistons due to a rebore

Anything from 300hp to 600 hp is available to you depending on how deep your pockets are

Hey Tuffty,

You're spot on, It's an AGU.

I would be looking for power around the 300 - 320 mark, for this year anyway.

What would you recommend and any rough prices and the best place for a map in the north west region if you happen to know any?

You will probably need a lsd in a front drive car with that much power, or you will not be able to put the power down, wasting all the money you have spent.

I assume you have read through this?

300hp would be in the realm of a K03 hybrid... for 300+ the hotsides are too restrictive so a K04 hybrid is the way to go...

Cost is dependant of route and if you are planning to do the work yourself...prices for the required hardware is easy enough to find out... make a list then go to preferred suppliers for parts prices.. labour prices will be subject to how much work you are doing yourself... bare in mind that even on the most meticulous builds there is a chance that corrective and/or remedial work would need to be done prior to mapping if you are doing the work yourself... not seen a car yet that hasn't needed something doing to it (my own included)

I don't know what budget you had in mind...

Thanks for the link I will spend some time today having a read.
I should have around £3,000 available next month to get started.

How come you are breaking the car now seen your ad on eBay

Hey buddy, fried a piston just before it was about to go stage 1.

I have decided to move on and have now bought a 2.0TFSi Sportback. Hopefully this won't be so problematic compared to this, lol.

maybe it only has a back.

I have to be honest I love the idea of the 5 door A3 body sports but it looks too long, why not get an A4 instead?
