I am looking into getting rid of my S3 8P and getting hold of a S4 Avant due to having a first child on the way but I am just wondering how good, bad ,or indifferent the standard stereo is in the car?

Ideally I would like to get one with Bang and Olufsen but I have seen a few cars with no bang and Olufsen and good spec otherwise and just wondered how bad the standard stereo is? My current car has Bose and its pretty decent when you have messsed about and got it set right and I don't want to be dissapointed and have to spend a rake of money improving the stereo if I can avoid it.

I've got the standard stereo in my a4. I think the sound is pretty decent. I think there is something like 10 speakers in it.
 
Some people say you can't really tell the difference but if you like your music then get the b&o or upgrade the standard one at later date as its apparently easier to do. I tested one without but didn't buy it the 2nd s4 I saw had it and I noticed it was more crisp up loud an bass is controlled better. But I guess if you are going to have it at 10 or lower then don't worry about with or without just get drive select an sports diff :)

I've recently sold my S4 and thought that the B&O sound was very good definitely as good as the Bose in my new car.
Overall I loved the S4 and sure you will no matter what sound set up you end up with.
 
Yeah I am 100% I will love it as well it's just the waiting game for one with the right spec to come up at the minute, I want sports diff if I can and that's not the most common option on a low mileage avant with B&O... thanks for the advice!

When I was buying a lot of the cars on auto trader don't spec sports diff/drive select. Just look for the button on the dash. Also keep checking audi used cars they list all the options.

I've seen one with dynamic individual and comfort in that area as well I think, is this the same?

What model you looking for or rather what year? Face-lift is the ones without the circle fog lights ie late 2012 onwards which is also called is b8.5

I am looking at the newest I can afford really, low 20's avant with the best spec possible and lowish miles

I can't see much about at the moment, the ones with the modes individual comfort buttons are the pre Face-lift model. If you go for pre Face-lift there's a lot of auto gearbox mech units issues which can cost mega bucks if you get a issue 6months down the line. Me personally I didn't get a pre Face-lift for the above reason just get a face lift a bit higher millage to fit that budget but with gearbox oil change done at 40k.

It took me 2months of looking and I settled on 70k miles 2013 single owner every possible option full audi service history with gearbox oil changes new tyres brakes and discs. I got it for 22,950 from audi in Kent in February this year. The avant good spec goes really quick and not many come to market if you compare to the likes of its competitors bmw335i for instance. Ideally I want to get a facelift but I do really want to keep the miles as low as I can as well... the longer I look the more I can spend I guess

Check out the Lava grey avant at fontain (if it's still there), I know this is a great car as I sold it to them 2 weeks ago!

Bit late to this but you can spec drive select without the sports diff so the presence of the button doesn't mean you have the diff.

Oh and I find the standard stereo very good. I'm not an audiophile so depends how fussy you are.

I have seen an 09 plate car with just about every single option including sports diff and it's only done 21000 miles, the only worry is that it has been in storage for 6 years so I don't know what issues that may cause really

Yep my old S4 Avant had sports diff and full drive select options.
I keep checking the Audi used site as I'm sure it will pop up on there any day now.

I recently got one with B&O, and to be honest, totally underwhelmed by it. The Seat Sound stereo in my 2013 Leon sounds far better.

Kicking myself, as I didn't buy a really nice MRC Stage 2 car mainly because it didn't have some of the "must have" spec items, B&O being one of them, sports diff being another. Both of which I really think I could live without (or can't tell the difference).
