Hi guys need advice on my 2012 s3 8p.

I want to keep cat back oem but definitely want to upgrade the downpipe.
Not sure to go decat or sports cat route.

How would the car sound with either? Would love to hear comparisons in brand and what people are running.

I want the best for sound and performance. Not looking for a raspy sound but something deep but keeping cat back oem.

Looking forward to responses

The best route is to change the whole thing, especially if you're looking to change the exhaust note,or to modify the car.

I wouldn't bother with a decat unless you're ready for the MOT issue, and from the performance point of view,as I've said, changing the entire exhaust is the best route.

BCS was my choice.

As Alex says, if it need to be street legal, and no hassle on MOT need to get the Cat, however don't need to be in original place (e.g. in end section and on both ends bolted or clamped, so easy to replace with pipe), or you can keep your current setup ready to swap for the MOT day.

My cars still in the bodyshop at the moment. Yeah probably stick to a sports car for mot purposes.
I have Miltek cat back sitting at home came of my bros a3 2.0tfsi. How would I know it's 2.75" or 3"?

I want the car to sound nice loud and Depp. So if I out the cat back on and get a Miltek downpipe how would that sound?
A lot of vids are hard to make out exactly how they sound in real life.

any video won't replace live experience so... no matter what you try. However, simply Vernier caliper to check ID, however is only for sound or performance, usually you do it for performance, if only for sound, take off the resonator or back box and voila'.

I did try the backbox delete on my old Milltek.....I dont mind loud(I had a GpN Escort Cosworth for some yrs) but this was just beyond usable.
Loud, droning at usual speeds and downright unpleasant.

The BCS system I've got now gives me the best of all worlds....
This lot sounds quiet at idle, but deep, and barks under load.

100% change the downpipe for a sports cat 3", mated to oem catback they make a brilliant noise.

Bcs/cobra/pipewerx both do downpipes that can connect to oem catback.

If your chasing every single bhp/torque then imo you want a 3" full system to the backbox...miltek catback/etc are all 2.75" iirc.

I did the BCS downpipe and 200 CEL cat, comes with an adapter to connect with the OEM back section. Increases flow and performance and does make nice pops and barks. for the best improvement to noise the back section is a must.

not really, you use the ID of exhaust to suit your HP if you got 400HP car you will need 3,5" if you got stock 2.0, th 3.5" will be exaggerated and not only, if not tuned properly to read correct lambda values it will end in lower mpg as well overall performance of car. but if you're ok with it.

I'm not chasing every single bhp. I've got a miltek cat back sitting upstairs so I'm assuming it's 2.75". I'm thinking of selling it and just getting the best downpipe possible mating it onto the oem cat back.

Just wanted to hear views on owners who have done that to their cars. I don't want to sell the cat back and then after purchasing a downpipe and 200 cell cat to then go out and buy a cat back again.

Get the downpipe, if you like the setup with it and oem catback - sell the miltek...if your not happy keep it and fit lol.

Downpipe and oem catback is only raspy when the engines cold.

Piperwerx/bcs both use a nut and bolt from the downpipe to the main pipe that then connects to the catback.

Piperwerx seen a couple of them go on ebay relatively cheap but I don't now of anyone running them. What are they like in comparison to the bigger companies like Miltek/bcs/cobra?

Sorry to hijack - I'm looking to go stage 2 in the next month or so, but need to replace the OEM cat to do so. Just wanted to confirm that the 2.0 FSI only has the single cat between DP and midpipe? I.e. there isn't a cat in the DP?

Ive just fitted a milltek downpipe to oem catback. Sounds nice when pressing the loud peddal. Also get the dsg farts now when changing gear at certain revs... i wouldnt sell your cat back though. Get a downpipe and fit it all on...
