hi and firstly id like to introduce myself and my car as I'm new to the forums.

I am Jonny I have a 2017 A6 2.0 TDI Quattro

Love the car but my MPG aid terrible. I am only receiving around 25-32 MPG and that is mainly driving motorways. Even though I'm advertised to receive 47 urban and 57 combined I know these are not accurate but I am currently mile away from these figures.

A tank should get me around 900 miles but I've filled up 5&1/2 times and only managed 2000 miles. To save you doing the maths that should have got me 4950 miles with the fuel ive put in.

What are others getting and what would people suggest?

Ok so what mileage is on the vehicle?

Which type of journeys do you do?

Which size of wheels are on it?

Its quattro, so it will obviously do less than its FWD counterpart.

Is it auto or manual?

Ok so what mileage is on the vehicle? 2,000

Which type of journeys do you do? 90% motorway runs to work and back

Which size of wheels are on it? 18

Its quattro, so it will obviously do less than its FWD counterpart.

Is it auto or manual? S-tronic

Check your tyre pressures and wheel alignment. It's not uncommon for the wheel alignment to be out of spec from the factory
Would these cause such severe drops in the suggested MPG? I was going to get my tyres refilled tomorrow with nitrogen also to see if it helped

Are you on summer tyres now or still winters as I find my motorway economy isn't as good on winter tyres..

How long is that motorway journey? If it's only a short blast each time, that would also have an adverse effect as it's never getting up to temperature...

Check your tyre pressures: the TPMS only warns you if you tyre pressure CHANGES based on a change in the wheel radius. I know when I change back and forth between winter and summer wheel, the local tyre company only puts mine at around 32PSI instead of 38-40PSI and that takes my motorway economy down from ~35mpg* to ~30mpg*. This does NOT generate a TPMS warning as all four were ~32PSI when the tyres went on and the system was reset.

* mine is a quattro with Steptronic DSG, but it's a TFSI (s'charged petrol), so 37mpg is the textbook max, which I can get IF I drive like a saint, but with the remap, there's just too much temptation to rev it out and use the extra 75bhp :)

Even allowing for your one being a new car, with quattro and bad tyre pressures you really should be getting way better than my remapped petrol, so as mentioned, the wheel alignment is probably worth checking before you destroy your tyres... I'm sure you could get Audi to do it for you since the car is still so new.

Is it regenerating constantly? When you switch off the engine is the engine fan still turning? I know of one example (3.0 BiTDI though) where regeneration took place on every single journey, which was cured through a software update.

I do loads of short journeys and mine does the re-gen all the time which ruins the mpg. Additionally this prevents the stop start from working!

I can say from knowledge that my last diesel car improved by about 15mpg from when I got it at 4000 miles to 18000 miles. Then settled after that, Diesels are meant for lots of miles and long life so they only settle in fully after 15-20k miles and should with proper maintenance live long into and over the 200k miles.

So things should get better as you use it more although the tyre pressures and aligning are a good call.

Ours wasn't good for the first 20k miles or so partly down to short journeys but it got way better over time. Long runs now we get high 50's mpg and it always with a full car as well...round town low - mid 40's

I tend not to run to AC on all the time and another one to check is heated mirrors as I'm told that puts a strain on the car as well.

failing that if your worried get the car back to the dealer .... good luck !

I must admit I needed the heated mirrors for a long time but always forget to turn them off so yep they are always on and so is the aircon all the time. I know this will be hurting economy slightly but I'm happy with mid 30's in town and low-mid 40's else where (usually always get between 500-550 miles) as it's a hell of a fast car and I don't drive it softly
:racer::busted cop::sorry:

Car will get better once you have some miles on it.

That's no miles at all benefits start around 30k . Also stay away from supermarket fuel or mix it with puka fuel. I never believed this until I purchased a golf from Super Chips which was showing 55mpg, then after a couple of fill ups at a SM the mpg dropped to 38 !! Reverted to puka fuel and it returned to 50-55 mpg
