What cone filter , pics in engine bay ?
Here's the problem a well respected moderator here and another forum with two projects a near 400bhp A4 3.0 TDI and a TT petrol track car has provided some information and proof on his old 1.9 AWX .
At the time it had a BV43 turbo and was running around 200bhp .
The standard induction is all of generous diameter and iirc he said the air box was the same size as a 4.2 V8's .
I quote..
"When I was having my car remapped tried a little experiment and ran the car with no filter against the one that I had fitted at the time which was a bog standard Mann filter that had done 10K plus miles. Less than 1bhp and 2-3 Lb/ft of torque that was on a car making nearly 200bhp.
The standard filter is very good and used on cars with much larger engines than in the Passat.
The last time I changed the air filter I tried a little experiment. I folded it out just to see how much filter surface there is."
28 feet !
Plenty of surface area thus no restriction .
Cone and aftermarket panel filters do improve over OE where the induction is small diameter and or small air box .
