So apparently this is quite a common problem/fault, but it looks like there is a leak in my air con condensor and the unit needs to be replaced. Audi have quoted over £750 for parts and labour, so I had a quick look online and found the part for £76 (from www.autoairconparts.co.uk).

Has anyone had any dealings with these guys at all? It seems pretty decent and I would just need to find someone local to help me fit it. Can anyone recommend a reliable garage in the Bromley area who could perhaps do this?

Thanks in advance
P

Don't know about your area specifically but there are companies that do car aircon specifically. I would look out one if those guys.

Keep us posted as to how you get on please. Haven't got mine repaired from last May yet, but will have to take the plunge soon I fear.

Made some calls to a few local garages and air con specialists covering the Bromley area, but none are willing to fit a condensor unit which I have supplied myself, stating "insurance" reasons. Quotes for supply and fit ranging from £550-660 at the moment so it doesn't look like I will finding a cheaper solution for this.

Still not decided what I'm going to do...

What you also have to take into account is that you could quite easily damage the replacement part on the way home from getting it fitted. That's the main reason why I haven't got mine sorted yet, and I'm still looking for ways to better protect the condenser.

there is another useful thread here - have you tried approaching your dealer/audi uk as it seems some have had joy going this route?

I tried this, and showed the Service Manager a Guardian article in which Audi conceded ground by contributing towards one guy's repair cost. To his credit he agreed to reduce the cost of replacing my condenser from £700+ to around £400, and said that a note would be put on my file so the offer is open-ended with regard to time. (Lincoln Audi / JCT600 :respekt:)
As I've already mentioned, I need to find some way of protecting the condenser before I shell out even £400 though.

If I go ahead and get this repaired..I'm going to ask them to fit some mesh lining to the front vents at the same time. Whilst there is undoubtedly an element of bad luck involved in all of this, at least it will provide some kind of added protection to the new condensor.

Just out of interest Neil, did you purchase your car from an Audi dealership? Is that why they were willing to offer you a contribution to the repair?

Yes, but from a different dealer in the JCT600 group (and not an experience I'm in a hurry to repeat, although I think the salesman in question no longer works there).
I have had some servicing and warranty work done at Lincoln, and they've always been spot-on.
I bought some mesh last summer, but haven't been able to work out how to fit it. There's so little room, and I really don't want to go down the "bumper off" route.
