As per the title, yes I've decided upon a course of action and have decided to downgrade to a Golf GTI Mk7.5 facelift! Why?
  • Insurance is now killing me on the S3 (live in London)
  • Want some new toys/gadget (mine's a 2014 8v)
  • My S3 will be 3 years old in 5 months so need to look now for "67" plate
  • GTI looks better than the R (love the LEDs) and dare I say it better looking than the new look S3!!!
So I've specc'd up a 2.0 GTI 5-door DSG with the following options:
  • White
  • Art Velour Seats
  • Reverse Camera
  • Sunroof
  • 19" Alloys
Broker4Cars have quoted £26856 + £325 (their fees) as an outright purchase (14 week build) which is over £6k saving from RRP. WBAC have quoted £22k for the S3 - so the difference is only £5k and I'll keep it for 3 years though am thinking of selling privately (to a mates mate - tbc)

So, has anybody had any dealings with B4C (as I've used CarWow previously but it seems these guys take care of everything rather than point you to the dealer)?

I bought my first Audi in 1985 ( 80 Sport - still have it ! )
Always Audis since.
Currently have three, including a 2004 1.8Tquattro and S3 saloon.
Next car will very probably be GTi ( +performance pack) so if you are a traitor than I'm likely to be as well !! I can handle it ! Actually your spec is very similar to what I'd have.
I'm unconvinced about the front view of the facelifts - I understand it's Corporate but.....

Welcome to the dark side!!

Take it you've not opted for the performance pack?

Do like the GTI, brother has one and really likes it. Says it needs more power, but sure a jb1 will sort that out. Handling will be far superior also I'd suspect on a B road

Congratulations mate, insurance for a S3 is getting very expensive indeed, nowt wrong at all with a Golf GTI especially with the pano-roof lol,the new facelift car is a great looking car into the bargain, all the best

I've been thinking about doing exactly the same mate, all the extras that I want on the S3 are standard on the GTi. The insurance is coming in around the same on the GTi as it is on my S3 tbh.

Which 19's did you go for the Brescia or the Santiago?

I was set on going for a Golf GTI this time last year when looking for a new car and was very close to getting it twice but got put off it. If I were to get a Golf, I'd get a GTI Clubsport or a good priced Golf R.

I'm looking at Golfs very closely on AT all the time. I really like a lot of aspects of my car, but really hate others, so it is becoming a frustrating ownership experience. I really don't get on with the audio stuff being down by the handbrake. After two years I still have to look down to see which button I want to press and that winds me up! One problem is the Golf's only real rival for my affections is a TT, as I love the way the new one looks, but it'll still have the annoying controller...

I don't think there's much difference between the pre-facelift and facelift GTIs. The active info display looks like a bad implementation compared to VC and journalists are recommending the standard Discover Nav over the Nav pro. So with no Nav Pro and AID, the interior is pretty much the same as the pre-facelift. The new standard Nav is pretty much the same as the old Nav pro except its now a fingerprint magnet. I doubt there's any difference in performance too and it has the same 6 speed DSG, the exhaust does seem louder though and I do like some of the new colours. No idea how the performance pack GTI is now but it gets the 7 speed DSG.

One disappointing aspect with the facelift is that there is no silver option any more.

White silver is a pale silver, not Candy nor Oryx and the downloaded catalogue shows it as available for GTis
Actually just had another look on 'build your own' and it shows Reflex silver ???
Another colour chart shows only white silver aarrgghh reckon it's too 'new' and the web pages have yet to catch up!
And they all say 6 speed DSG !!

I can't see the performance pack GTI on the VW config yet. No reflex silver too but they have added Tungsten Silver which was quite similar.

Good luck on your new adventure! Hope you enjoy the Golf as much as you did the S3 :)

White Silver is just metallic white, rather like Glacier on the A3. Boring!

We're looking at selling wife's S3 sedan MY15 and replacing it with the 7.5R once it's released in Aust.

With all the new features VW has made standard i believe self parking only feature Audi would have more. The VW is $10k cheaper and $12k cheaper than sedan. Just can't just can't justify the $$ now for Audi.

That's in Australia anyway.

I always reckon you need to see the actual car ( to get the 3D effect ) in the colour you think you'd like !
Years ago we were about to order a new car. I wanted a blue (it was a new VW colour) - wife wanted red - we compromised, and had red!!
Months later we saw the car in blue and it looked nothing, no where near as good as the red we (she! ) bought.

I used the online brokers when I purchased the S7.

Got the best online deal I could find, including all options. Printed it out and walked into my local dealer, put the spec sheet and price on the table (it was CarWow) and told them to match it, which they choked at.

2 days later got a call, matched it to the penny. Was well chuffed, and it was my local dealer as well, so none of this halfway across the country stuff :racer:

Probably is, but so is White Silver! Look for videos of it, it's just white paint with metallic flakes in it.
White silver is nothing like glacier. It looks like grey primer when it's overcast. It's way duller than glacier.

Oryx on the other hand is amazing. It looks silver in the midday sun and gold in the evening. The best white paint I've seen.

I've just ordered a golf 7.5 too. My A3 s-line saloon 150 tdi is going back to my office. I could've had another manual or I could get a 184 GTD DSG with 19s, art velours interior and Dynaudio. Given I do 50k miles per year it seemed a no brainer

In Australia Audi came to party way more with price with lease company. Even though RRP price between cars in spec we want was 14k difference Audi discounted 11k more than VW so were only paying 2600 or $33 a fortnight more for S3 sedan over the Golf R so sticking with one S3 and one MK7R in our garage for next few years.

I saw a stunning lease deal for the Golf Mk 7.5 once I ordered my A3. It was £3500 with 23 X £178 think it was 5k mileage per year. Was very tempted to pay the cancellation charge but decided to stick with my A3
