Not another Nogaro!!!

Drill and tap the manifold and housing for M10 studs

Yes that is the Plan. Already have the studs. Just need to tap it and and open up the turbine housing flange holes.

Only have a hand drill though... not sure if that'll be straight enough ...

No you'll have to use a pillar drill.

got myself sorted with a trip to eBay LOL

Shitting myself when doing the thread that it was going to be wonky but it turned out ok!

I think my studs are in deep enough. When tightening the nut the housing doesn't move. Hope that's ok? Feedback? I've not touched the others yet just in case i need to go deeper although at this depth i have hit the bottom of the hole that was already there...

Nut tightened up = no more movement...

and then... i have to deal with this too LOL

I had to cut that stud down to an appropriate size and that's the first one you need to fit.

They're prob deep enough, they aren't likely to stretch much at all. Are you going to use washers? Nordlock or schnorr.

Cool so I just found out you can get "bottom" style taps that should give me an extra thread or two to help the stud go a little more. The one I used was tapered a lot.

How did you cut the bolt down? Angle grinder time. Haha

I actually used a hacksaw haha. 12.9 grade stud = took a long time. Then I cleaned it up with some files

What thickness of wire did you use to run from map sensor to the clocks? Is 1mm thick enough

What thickness of wire did you use to run from map sensor to the clocks? Is 1mm thick enough

Does this mean you clocks have made a re appearance!??

Try to match it with the thickness of the wires in the engine bay. If you have spare engine bay loom wiring. Perfect. It doesn't look that thick but the copper inside is very strong.

1mm sounds too fine but you will see that the wires used in the colorMFA is probable half of that!! Haha

Clocks are still a no show but they say for the boost I can connect to pin 32 on the grey connector for the clocks instead of on to pcb and as you know the wire for them are tiny. Just want to run the wire thru so I can get all my dash my together from the rnse/double din conversion

Yeah I seen that when I was double checking can hi/lo
Good shout on the rnd that would well do my head in

ah ok... same same but different!!!

he says "you need to put wire from 4th pin of pressure sensor to pin 32 of grey"

SO to me that reads as:

- you need to feed a wire from the 4th pin of the MAP sensor to pin 32 of the grey connector (what you are saying...)

- (what they've not said but reading in between the lines) to which they will attach the boost contact wire from the colorMFA motherboard (as circled in black) to pin 32 of grey connector

same as what i did but i've gone direct instead of going
- motherboard -> wire -> soldered to drivers side cluster PCB pin 32 -> soldered wire to engine side of cluster PCB pin 32 -> wire feed to MAP wire #4

mine
- motherboard -> wire soldered direct to MAP wire #4

I would look at pin #32 on your grey connector... is there a wire in it? If not you'll have to pin it to make the feed...

Can't remember off the top of my head sorry

originally I thought they'd go straight to pcb and leave a bit of wire sticking out so I could connect on to it but makes sense just going to the connector
There no wire in pin 32 but I bought the grey connector of @Gops so I could use 3 of the pins with wire on me solder on to them as I ruined the two spares trying to attach the wire. one for this and two for can hi/lo

Would've been easier with a wire sticking out...

Im gunna put a bullet connector for easy in/out action if and when needed

Yeah them little pins are a nightmare.

Not a bad idea that, anyway enough about my wiring , have you made anymore progress with yours ?

Ported the manifold out and converted to m10. Giving polishing the runners a go too.

Still don't have word on when parts will be making the move from USA

I got a daily! LOL

Rescued Minger from someone who didn't have time to look after it. Just a few things to take care of but nothing I've not done before.

I love reading your thread for inspiration but getting yourself a daily car of one of the most unreliable melts on the used car market is a step too far. you will mod this up too, you might not think you will - but now you can start playing with Maps on a car you have no attachment to.

:iagree:

I have an illness ...

Nah seriously. This was purchased at the most ridiculous price I couldn't say no - yes needs some fixing BUT I have all the parts. Just needs a to swaps it all in and gives me time to properly work on noggie without having to rush.

It is already mapped. So not need to touch that side of things. Plus it's already got all the stock hose ripped out and in place is a pioneer double din / Rockford fosgate setup.

I would say just a little bit of a steal for the price purchased!

I mean you will map it yourself - its the only thing you have not got into yet. (or I might have missed something in your thread :))

Ohhhh right! Yeah have dabbled a little bit into tweaking the flash tune - I had added NLS/Launch control on the noggie (maybe you missed that?)

Great daily, lol :D you never can't go wrong with a S3 8L :s3addict:
I've got my second few weeks back for under a thousand £ and it's facelift and it's pretty clean too.
But realised that i can't afford two sporty vehicles at age of 21 - I wish i could fill my driveway & garage with them :blahblah1:

One of each colour!!!

I'm getting there with this one - just have to do the driveshafts (3 split boots) and gearbox swap (no 1 & 2) then she'll be ready for a roadworthy (what you guys call MOT). The headlights were foggy as hell but they were smooth to touch... so i thought "let's get the plastic polish on them to see how it goes". They've gone from not roadworthy to nice and clear in 5 minutes! Last owner must have done the sanding but left it at that. LOL

gearbox swap (no 1 & 2)

Common fault is selector fork for no 1st & 2nd gear,Wheeler Dealers did an Audi TT...

About 26 minutes in,I bet a man of your calibre could do that fix if it's what wrong with your box

thank you @tcg - some good info there!!!

i'm taking the easy way out though - i know my box from Noggy works fine and is already split from the housing - so i'm gunna do a cheeky swap around!! I figured that's the quickest way to get Minger up and running

Then crack open and shifter fork upgrade the one i pull from the Ming...

8l syndrome has got hold of you mate.. The most financially draining disease known to man..

Get well soon :)

I think i need to move to australia

LOL - i actually got pretty lucky with this purchase... usually S3's can range from $6000 to - 10,000 AUD.

I only got this because I now feel that i know the platform enough to be able to do all necessary repairs within a relatively short turnover and that i really can now not stress so much about rushing the Noggie - i want that one of be prepped and built properly.

It'll give me peace of mind being able to go over everthing 3 times over before starting up

ok so the prices are similiar to SA. You can pick them up for R45k to 85-90K here in SA which is more or less in line with the aus prices since 1 Aud = R10. Issue is 90% of the cars here are neglected, most of the guys dont change the haldex oil etc, so you have 15-17 year old cars driving around with differential oil that has never been changed.

yep - this one needs a Haldex oil service. On 1st inspection the i also noticed only water in the coolant overflow tank :( and then before i took it home the guy actually said "oh wait up! gotta put more water in" Literally poured water from a spring water bottle into the talk... i was pulling my hair out furiously on the inside! hahahaha

I don't think it's been that way for a long time though as i noticed the water was rust free - but trust me i flushed that **** out (again... no rust *phew*) and put in the proper stuff along with full engine oil and filter change!!!

Well, usually I use to be very lucky person and both of them we're very nice and very cheap when i was buying them - Both we're very well maintened especially The one i got year ago that i actually drive Ebony Black 01' AMK Facelift
I got it with brand new Brembo disc's and pad's all around sitting on old school BBS RS's 18" and KW V1 and all the extras ect. Very clean, still havn't seen one like mine's in person.
otherwise was completely stock - just couple Forge hoses we're here and there in the bay. The guy i get it from was very cheezy tho, no single word and he took 500quid down of the price, madness, i was likeee Oww Hell Yee Boyy
The actual funny thing is that, second view, second car - If you get me :D
Unfortunatelly i'm selling the second one right now.
This time is Silver 01' AMK Face again
Kinda wanted to keep it for daily as is fully serviced before less than 3K and couple of uprated things here and there in the bay too - but as i said... Too young to be too strong.

Wish you best of luck with the current built, keep my self in update every day of that thread.
And hopefully the new one you got serves you the right reliability for daily use.

Btw: I am from Bulgaria actually, just use to work/live in the UK. Both cars are located there in Bulgaria. :|
Here in the UK for my age and that toy - I've been quoted 90K per year for Insurance..
So, yee. Why not, right? :D

One S3 as a project and another as a "daily" don't work, i've probably owned my daily car for about a month now and i've already ploughed £600+ just on maintainance parts and there's probably another £300+ more to go! Talking of cheap S3's, we get bargains here too... I've paid £450 for my complete S3 with a blown headgasket, just gotta be lucky ;)
