Hi,

Just wondering if the RS3 8V has a tracker fitted standard from factory?

Heard that a lot of RS Models do but wondering if mine does.

Thanks

No it does not, in fact I don't know of any vehicle that does as standard.

No and no. Tracker preparation for the dealer add-on is an option yes but they don't come with one.

Hmmm.. fairly new member, only ever posted once, asking if RS3s have trackers... consider my hackles raised!

I know from experience that the C5 RS6 had Tracker as a free factory fit option, so practically all of them have them.

Thanks for the replies.

The only reason i ask is because i test drove a new TTRS prior to buying the RS3 last month and it had a tracker as standard.

I shall try get one added to my car soon then.

You can have cobra trak fitted as a dealer accessory, my Audi used to fit a fair few trackers to rs's once they had been delivered

If someone stole my car I wouldn't want it back!

+2 That's what gap insurance is for.

But what if they literally drove it a mile into the next street to see if it had a tracker? Insurance claim which lasts 5 years (for me that would cripple me) and then a few month wait for a new car. That's providing there are RS3's available, those with the PFL would never be able to get one again new... so do you have your car which has potentially only been driven 2/3 miles by someone else or not have one at all? That's the call to make.

The trackers will allow police to immobilise them, providing they aren't blocked.

Wrong. It would still be classed as stolen/recovered and would impact your insurance in exactly the same way.

Insurance is incredibly unfair. A few years back I'd had a renewal quote come through. Two days before it was due to start, some idiot crashed into my car. They had to re-run the quote, this time 12% more. I queried why when I wasn't even there. I was told it was still an "incident". Similarly, even if you don't claim but your insurers are aware, they will still class it as an incident which you must declare and that will affect your premiums for the next five years. It's not right, but that's the way it is.

That isn't the case.

I had a tracker on my RS6 as previously implied, since it came with one. It got stolen to order one night by some balaclava guys who relieved me of the keys. Cops & Tracker were called and it was located 30 minutes later in the next town, parked down a quiet back street. It was utterly unharmed and nothing was taken from the car. The police took it away to dust for prints and then I got it back a day or so later. I didn't have to claim on the insurance, I didn't have to make endless phone calls to them chasing ****** valuations and waiting weeks for the cheque to arrive whilst being without a car. I didn't have to traipse around viewing other cars again and I only had to spend two days without the car, working from home. I had to get the locks changed, sure, but that was the only real hassle.

The insurance were aware of the incident at the time, but I didn't have to claim on it and I never had to mention it again. If you think about it, all the questions that insurance ask you about "the last 5 years" are "have you had an accident", "have you made a claim", "have you got any points" etc.. none of which relate to having had a car stolen/recovered. It was never on my record and it was never on the car's record.

I'm not disputing what you're saying but I reckon you've got away with one there. And/or been very lucky to have no damage to it.

Trawl the web and there's plenty of stories similar to yours but where it's been logged as stolen/recovered and which insurers would expect to be declared.

Regardless, I'm still not sure if I'd want my car back knowing that some scum had been inside it doing god knows what.

It depends on what the thieves want it for. If they want to export the whole car to a buyer or if they want to use it on an armed robbery a few days later then a tracker will most likely find it unharmed, parked up somewhere quiet. If they want a joyride, then yeah it's going to be ******. If they want it for parts, then it depends on whether they've had time to strip it yet. A powerful 4-door quattro is ideal for a getaway car unfortunately, so they're much more likely to get nicked for that kind of thing than a BMW M2 for example.

If it hadn't had a tracker, I'd still be looking at a stolen or stolen/recovered anyway. With a tracker, there's also a much higher chance of catching the crims too. There's stories of trackered cars revealing the location of lock-ups containing dozens of stolen cars.

Regardless, I'm still not sure if I'd want my car back knowing that some scum had been inside it doing god knows what.
Sure, but they'd only had it perhaps 15 minutes and it was utterly untouched, bits of cash left in the trays and a laptop still in the boot etc.. The car was 18 months old when I bought it, so I'd already had to come to terms with what someone else might have been doing in it!

I'm glad it worked out for you, genuinely. Having had something similar happen to myself, I can honestly say I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The story of the guy in Manchester being killed at the weekend for his black S3 is a reminder how vigilant we need to be, owning the cars we do.

I'm thoroughly fed up of this insurance game now, it costs me a fortune :'(

It's painful seeing £200 a month go out on insurance, price to pay for a car like this :( But if I injured now it's £540 a month, the car would be going. If it's a case of £350 a month, I will just have to pay it... agony.

I've been there unfortunately...£1600 per year for a Clio 172! Many years on and I'm paying £300 in total for the RS3. It will get better for you.

My first ever car cost more to insure for the year than it cost to buy!

I hope so, many years of being shafted first though. Supposedly it's 25 when you pass the young driver barrier.

Mine cost £900, £2800 to insure.
It's no wonder there are so many uninsured drivers around these days, especially when the fines for being uninsured are nothing compared to the premiums.

Yep, totally. Then they add 6 points to the licence they no longer have, go buy another £150 Saxo and they have a couple of months of motoring until they are caught again.
