myAudi special destinations (POI)

Yep could be that too. Although it must have somewhere to write these to as its worked ok for other owners of the SD Card Nav - see post #169. Although they did have to get the different MMI version for SD Nav....
How then to persuade your dealership to upgrade the mmi firmware, or just pay them?

Will probably just mention it next time my car is in with them and see if they can do anything. I'll not be paying for it that's for sure...

When I picked up my car I ensured it had the latest firmware and currently has version #170 but it does not work for me with SD based Nav. Going to give it another from scratch later.

Tried it again today and same for me as well....still fails with same error as before.

Although interestingly I did see that on the MyAudi website under myAudi Special Destinations I now have a new button for "Send to Vehicle" that wasn't there before. As I understood things it was always there for Tech Pack owners but not those with the SD Card Nav. Anyway I tried clicking it but after a bit of processing it returns a page not found error for me.

However what's stranger is I can now go into the System update setting in the MMI and as well as the SD card update option I now also have Online update available. So tried that and somehow it seemed to work and find a file with my myAudi special destinations. So proceeded to download it which seemed to be working and then got a file download error right at the end....ahhhhhhh :sob: Can only assume it must still effectively be the same error I get with the SD Card update method although it wasn't the same error message.....
The POIs that you downloaded, were they new versions or old one's you've tried previously.

Used the same csv files I'd upload to the MyAudi site previously. I'd downloaded them from the poiplaza.com website mentioned in an earlier post.

Actually tried removing some this morning to cut down the file size and then tried the online update method again. This time the download completed successfully and then I got the exact same obsolete/outdated error message as via SD card method. I think i give in!

Let us know. The only firmware version for the SD card based Nav I have read as being successful was the 0159 version. That's on here and German and Spanish Audi forums. No idea if that was some beta version Audi released to customers who pushed for the fix for this specific issue or something like that but it seems maybe the fix didn't roll into version 0170.

Ok so just tried

Deleted everything from myAudi
Downloaded latest cameras from pocketworldgps
Uploaded to myAudi
Downloaded to SD card

and still not working.

I also tried the send to vehicle and got a page cannot be found, but the online update was available in the car. It downloaded them but then got the same error as SD card.

Can only hope maybe in next official version they include the fix and then we can all push our dealers/Audi customer service into getting our MMI's updated with it...

Guys I've tried all what you say. My A5 was delivered with latest firmware v170. I could always see the send to car option but as someone mentioned the web link gives an error but there is still data sent cos online update can download it in mine with no problem. I deleted old my.audi files and made new one with no success. I even got a file from a member who had issues initially but reported that his is working now BUT I got same error using his file nor mine. Guys it simply don't work on SD card based mmi. I Can't wait till I send car in for service in a couple weeks.

I've been tracking the issue with the basic MMI (SD Card Nav) on the Spanish and German Audi forums and noticed an update on the Spanish one from a user claiming their dealership finally received an updated SD Card from Audi last week with an update for the MMI and they are now on version 0192. Presumably this is the very latest version for the basic MMI and at least according to the user it has resolved the issue with the POI.

Sounds like this might be the version we need to request to finally fix this. I wonder if any A4 or A5 owners with basic MMI and new car delivery have this already now....

This is good update. I'm taking my 4 weeks A5 to dealer next week and can already call them to request for this newer SD card. Many thanks.

I have never known SD cards for the MMI to contain firmware to update the MMI system but of course this might be a first....

Update about your good reliable post. Just been in my local Audi and they confirmed that a memory card will be ordered to fix my new SD card navigation POI. They didn't know about this and I had to insist they look it up in their system and truely they came back with documents confirming this since April 27th. However the card is on back order and so a request has been placed for me. If the new card doesn't resolve it, they will continue to look into it. Will update you guys when I get the new navigation card.

dont have your hopes too high. they told me the same thing 2 months ago. still waiting for the magic sd card thats on back order. the original ETA was 10working days :)

I haven't had any luck with my dealer on getting this fixed. Intrigued with the SD card fix - wonder if it has some changes to the Nav package and is a straight swap for the existing SD card.

When loading the camera POI does the sat nav do any sort of alerting that you're approaching one or is it simply a new icon on the map?

Like you, loading special destinations has never worked since I got my car (a Q2) in November, and this server upgrade hasn't fixed it for me. I'm now pretty sure this is because my model has SD card based satnav, not the HD based system you get with the tech pack. I've never got a clear statement to this effect from Audi or my dealer, and the manual says the procedure "applies to vehicles with navigation system" without further qualification. What's more, all the relevant MMI menu options are enabled and the data load seems to start OK, but it fails with the error message "The update data are not compatible or are outdated". I've tried this with various POI data sources and file formats, and using online transfer as well as SD card, always with the same result.

The critical question for me is:- has anyone with SD card based navigation got myAudi Special Destinations working, either by online transfer or import by SD card?

OK, I've now answered my own question by solving the problem.

Prompted by Post #169 (kudos to Marmaduke) I asked my Audi dealer to update my MMI software. My car (a Q2) was delivered with version 0148, and this week it was updated to version 0192. (That's the MMI software, not the satnav SD card.)

I now have myAudi Special Destinations fully working, and I've successfully loaded personal POI lists both over-the-air and by SD card.

Three key points from my experience:
(1) myAudi Special Destinations works perfectly well with SD card based navigation, you don't need the HD based system,
(2) it requires MMI software version 0159 or later, and
(3) until recently Audi didn't understand this issue, but now they do.

Result!

That is good news, but I think it must be post version 0170 of the MMI as this is the version I have and it doesn't work, unless Audi have made changes on their end with the creation of files to send to the car.
I will try again from scratch to see if it will work with 0170.

Just tried again from scratch. No joy with either online or SD update and that is running version 0170. Will talk with the dealer and see if I can get it updated.

Been into the dealer today to see the master tech, he had no idea and seemed reluctant to do a software update - he eventually relented and updated to 0192 and voila it now works.

It's not perfect as it alerts for cameras on the other side of the road, but is much better than not having it.

There were 13 updates to apply post 0170 version so one of those contains the fix.

That's right, and I foresaw this when I examined the format of a POI file used by Special destinations. Each entry is simply a pair of GPS coordinates, so the satnav alert is triggered purely by proximity. It's not like the purpose-designed Safety Cameras feature in the freestanding TomTom satnav I previously used.

For all the advantages of built-in satnav, the Audi system is still much less user-friendly than the best freestanding units. For example, the Audi system doesn't play nice with UK postcodes, and it doesn't consistently keep Recent Destinations. But these are niggles ...

I don't know why Audi simply don't work with TomTom to use their software across the range, as some other manufacturers have done. It would deliver a lot better customer experience IMO.

I think it depends on the source of POIs. The format of my POI files has directional information as well as the GPS coordinates. On mine it only alerts for cameras in the direction I'm travelling.

Interesting - where do you source them from? I got mine from pocketgps

Mine come from Pocketgps as well. Did you load them from myAudi or via an SD card? I used the SD card method as you can change the BMP size so that icon shows when the screen zoom out.

I have done both SD card and online update. I don't have it zoomed out so that part doesn't bother me much - although as I only got it working yesterday that may change. What format do you use as I have used the Garmin as per the instructions in this thread.

Some time ago i reported this issue and also the fact that the curtain in the trunk of my A4 Avant doesn't always come back down when closing the trunk. They told me that they found the solution for the curtain in the trunk (something to do with the system going in standby when it shouldn't)
I have a my2017 Avant and have also found that, occasionally, the curtain doesn’t close. It happens, maybe, 1 in 5 times. If I open and re-close the tailgate, the curtain closes as expected. Did Audi resolve this for you and, if so, what was the solution?

And you did right but I'd probably start a new thread as you are more likely to get an answer, hopefully that is...

Do the pocketGPS speed camera POI's work on a standard SD MMI? because their description says MMI Touch ?

Yes it works fine providing you have the correct version of software. Simply follow the instructions that are in this thread.

I got my POIs from PocketGPS, too. The format I used is: Other - CSV (consolidated by type).

Had my car in with Belfast Audi for the 66I9 service campaign fix yesterday and asked if they could take a look at the POI issue while it was in. Got back to me to say yes its recorded as an issue with the resolution being to update the MMI so they went ahead and updated mine to version 0192 and now all works perfectly!

Mine was on version 0148 so not sure what else might have changed / been fixed with the update. Haven't spotted anything obvious....
