IMG 0687 IMG 0689 IMG 0686 Hi people.
Friday morning in the early hours I discovered I had a flat front tyre, gutted I was but hyho it happens.
Of course no spare so tyre weld into it run it a bit, inflate to correct psi and get it home.
Next day of to get a tyre (tyres) only to be told up to 2 weeks waiting time as waiting to be manufactured in Italy.
Pirelli Pzero 225/30/R19Y RO1 2weeks!!!!!
Oh well I though, only use it 1 day a week.
Today went down with my ford Ranger as got a puncture last night on that too.
Ano weird eh. Anyway got onto the subject about my RS about the tyre wait,he calls up Pirelli himself as didn't believe me about the 2 week wait for him to then turn round and tell me after his conversation on the phone that it could take up to.....wait for this.
2 flipping months, yep that's right 2 months.
WTF that's noo right man.
They can get me Contis in 8 days they say but I'd rather stick with the Pzeros.
Any thought guys.
Oh and the Ranger tyre takes 3 days to get.

I have just had the same issue this morning. Fortunately they have sourced quite a few...RO1 and RO2. Getting the new one on this afternoon.

Well spotted Dave, and looking over some paper work iv asked for the correct size, a typo on my part on here. Cheers for pointing that out.
I'd rather stick with what is originality on it due to the excellent rim protection on it, if it wasn't for that when I drove it flat the rub would be off to be repaired also.
Where's black rims based?
geo where have you sourced the RO1's from!!!!

I got mine from ATS in Glasgow.

FYI, apparently R01 MO are the same tyre, Pirelli used to make MO's for Mercedes and the R01's were for Audi...but now the tyres are dual marked and they no longer make ones solely marked as R01's. HTH

You mention they are 225/30's... are they not 235's?

Doc that was a typo on my part.
Fronts are 255/30 R19
Rears are235/35 R19

geo is that ATS in Rutherglen?

Also do these have the rim protection on them?

Go to a net tyre dealer to save time and money. They usually have local partners who can help you to get it swapped. Checked with the first netdealer here and they had 12 tyres to deliver right away and you have it in couple of days, shouldn't be any problem? One thing I noticed is that 255 is almost the double the price compared to 235!

Cheers Rockerter I'll give that a go, yea unfortunately it's the 255's I need for the fronts, got the punctured tyre plugged yesterday till I source the tyres.
Hopefully get something sorted soon.

Certainly looks as though it has the same protection. It was from Finniston that I got it.

RO2 is the latest spec, don't ask for RO1.

It has a huge rim protector and the 255 fronts version has a sound absorber in it for reduced road noise. I have RO2 all round in the latest P Zero compound and love them.

Has your car been lowered and has spacers? If so, by how much. Looks great.

Hi. Yes it has the H&R Springs which with the mag ride transform the car. The oem springs are so hard and crashy, but these are so compliant it's lovely.

The wheels are Ispiri FFR1 19 inch in 8.5j all round. ET42, but I'm using 5mm spacer on the front to clear the caliper on the RS3, and a 3mm on the rear for looks and to equal the total poke front to rear. So final offset is ET37 on the front and ET39 on the rear.

I have the 255 tyres on front and 235 on rear.

Perfect, and no rubbing.

Now I don't normally like aftermarket wheels, but well done sir... that looks fantastic. I LOVE the tyres :D

The sound insulation in the OE tyres is just foam / sponge. Saw it when the original tyres came off mine.

Yes that's right. Some foam on the inside. Makes a difference too.

Have Pirelli changed the tyre compound then as most people including myself don't rate the factory fitted tyres.

I'm due for a change shortly & intend to put michelin or goodyear on in their place.

New p Zero was launched last summer and started to become available later in the year. I got mine in late October and there was a scarce supply.

I notice the new RS3 has the RO2 fitment tyre. Is the RO2 an Audi spec tyre alone? If so I will get them for the S3 when I need tyres.

Audi can't get me the 235/35/19 AO, which I think is madness but it makes me wonder if they can get the RO2 now instead!

RO2 was what came on the later rs3 mine had it and I had no issues with the pirellis once they were scrubbed in

Yes afaik RO1/2 is an Audi only spec.

Are you supposed to take the old foam out the old tires and put them in the new ones or do they come with them ?

Lol. No it's stuck inside the tyre, a thin layer. You just swap tyres as normal.

Still waiting on my front tyres to turn up as no one seems to have them available in either R01/Ro2 yet, though did get two new R01 for the rears for a good price.
Not that I'm in a rush now though as the cars going in for repair after some numpty ran into me last week.

Best places to fit the tires without damaging rims ?

Audi. But, when I asked for just tyre fitting they quoted the labour rate at £50 a tyre!!! Cheaper to get them from there, then price match to Kwik Fit.

Last year when I got Audi to replace all my tyres on my S3 they had damaged one of my wheels,if I hadn't inspected it before paying and driving out the stealers I'm sure they would of denied it,as they did try before I pointed out to them to look at the photos of it on drop off.
Regarding tyre removal,I had it in at my local kwik Fit and the care they had taking in removing and refitting was impressive, even installed new plastic pieces on there machine that lifts the tyre away from the rim so not to mark it.
Was also in at national tyres and noticed that Kwik Fit has the latest and more advanced equipment than them.
So kwik Fit will be fitting all four of mines when they arrive for sure.

Interesting, thanks very much... will keep Kwik Fit in mind.

Has anyone had any problems with excessive 'road noise' with MPS4S's fitted?

I recently replaced my front 255's (rear are still pzero 235's) and ever since there's a very distinct noise that's verging on unbearable depending on the road surface. Went back to the place that fitted 'em and they weren't any help at all, best they could offer was to sell me a new set! Tried Audi and one of the technicians kindly jumped in a took the car around the block. He confirmed the noise is there and that its not a balancing issue nor is it a bearing issue, but he's stumped! I've booked it in for them to do some experiments to determine what could be causing the issue i.e. swapping tyres etc. One chap spotted that the MPS4S's aren't r0 or a0 rated but that can't be the cause, can it?

Not sure on the rules of the forum (newbie here!) but here's a link to a recording I made: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ib9ir630yucpd7a/rs3-tyrenoise.mp3?dl=0. I don't know how easy for you guys to pick up but it sounds a bit like a hollow drone?

If any one has any ideas I'd love to hear them as I'm all out of ideas!

What is the noise rating on the Michelins? Is it higher than the P Zero (noisy tyre anyway)?

73db for the P Zero's and 71db for the Michelins!

Actually for the correct RO2 spec Pirreli tyres in 255\30 for the fronts its 69dB.

The 235\35 are 68 dB

It's worth noting that the 1763db from the sports exhaust makes all of the comments above irrelevant... ;)

I recently fitted a new set of four MPS4S, 255s all 'round, and have no road noise issues. They seem to be a bit quieter than the Toyo Proxes rubber that was originally on my car.

So I reached out to Michelin directly to ask them about the road noise and I got this response back about the MPS4S's:

"Michelin products are normally an ideal fitment for Audi vehicles. Except in this case. The sizes and the specifications for the Audi RS3 Sportsback Type V8 are, well, very specific with a wider front tyres than rears. The fitment for this car is mainly Pirelli OE (original equipment), which is a R01/R02 specific fitment and also an 'Acoustic' fitment (noise cancelling system). The R01/R02 marking means that the tyres are not the same size as a standard tyre in this instance. Since the vehicle is 4 wheel drive / Quattro, it makes the vehicle very sensitive to its fitment. In short, as I mentioned in my previous message, it is the rolling circumference that causes the noise. The issue should be rectified when returning to the standard tyre specification - R01/R02."

Think I'll be switching back, anyone interested in 2 barely used (less than 200 miles) 255/30/19's? :)

Hmmm that isn't good at all is it.

The only saving grace for the Pirelli's as far as I can see is that the tyre was revised last year so the new one's may be better than the one's which were factory fitted to the cars.

Hearing stuff like this makes me consider sticking with OEM when I do need to change tyres I must confess.
